I don't know if anyone notice but there was an interesting focusing of the camera when the Kings party was arriving to Winterfell between Arya and the Hound.

We can all agree that Bran is the most adorable little kid, right?

We can all agree that Bran is the most adorable little kid, right? He had the most beautiful big brown eyes and tussled brown hair as a little kid and grew into quite a handsome young man. I really like the way they styled his hair for Season 6 (thank the gods that horrible moppet wig is gone) and I said this elsewhere but I think Bran has grown to look very "Starkish" in features even though in the books he was supposed to have more of the Tully looks.

Another thing I thought of later on was how LF and Lysa Arryn are to blame for so much! They killed Jon Arryn and then Lysa sends a letter to Cat blaming the Lannisters and Ned leaves for KL believing that Jaime and Cersei killed Jon Arryn.

I don't know if anyone notice but there was an interesting focusing of the camera when the Kings party was arriving to Winterfell between Arya and the Hound. Yes, there was! I didn't catch it till my second watch tonight. , now I'm giving even the old re-watches a second watch. And the Hound's helm is truly magnificent! I was struck by how much fun Arya was having, how much life and buoyancy she exuded. Oh, those kids, all those characters - little did they know. It was fun to see Cersei being Cersei, but ye gods, that hairstyle she had at the banquet was laughable. Jamie was so arrogant, Tyrion such a pessimistic wastrel (with a really, really bad hair job) - so different from what they're like now. That's true for all the [surviving] characters, of course, but those two even look like very different people - not just their hairstyles, but their faces. They've both always been able to 'say' so much by their facial expressions. Also noticed that Dany walked right into the steaming water, oblivious of the "That's too hot, m' lady", with that "going-right-on-with-this-don't-try-to-stop-me" look that she still gets, little bit of foreshadowing there. I remember her being frightened and so very timid in the books, but now I don't think she was so much in the show. Viserys and Ilyrio are just walking right on ahead of her after the meet and greet with K Drogo, pretty much talking about her as if she's not there, and she stops dead in her tracks, says very clearly and succinctly, "I don't want to be his queen." Of course, Viserys will have none of that, but she did speak up nicely, at least voicing what she wanted. It did occur to me, with the "all 40,000 tribesmen and their horses, too" speech, that Viserys and Ramsay would have made an interesting pair. Thought it was hilarious that when the guys were getting shaved for the feast, Robb shoved Jon forward: "Shave him good. He's never met a woman he loves better than his own hair." Just really liked seeing all of our characters sent off for 'their first day of school'. Loved how the Lannister procession rolled into WF with their prancing horses, shiny armor, and big city glitter...into the rugged and ingenuous world that was Winterfell. Loved the emphasis on what a pain in the ass it was for the Starks to have to deal with the Lannisters and what a pain in the ass it was for the Lannisters to have to deal with the Starks. My, my, and it's just getting started. Ned and Jaime had a nice little encounter there at the feast, so it really is all set in motion. I think the Prologue in the books is one of the most powerful chapters in the whole series, but I think it was handled well in the episode, too - so much was there that won't be understood until much, much later, but it's there, already. I see amazing strengths in Catelyn, and many are evident from the very beginning, but I've never been able to work my way around her behavior towards Jon, so that stood out for me this episode as well.

Benjen's like, "You're always welcome in the Night's Watch, Jon." Jon's like, "Okay." And Benjen's like, "Nah, it's actually pretty shitty. I know I just said you should join but maybe wait a bit."

You know, Catlyn'e behavior towards Jon never really bothered me. Knowing what we know, I couldn't expect her to enlighten about her husband's infidelity. She was never cruel to Jon, she mostly just ignored him. Did Jon deseve that? Of course not but neither did Cat, she was forced to live with the memory of her husbands betrayal everyday. I would say a good portion of the blame falls on Ned.
I say this having had an awesome Stepmom, but had she not been so loving towards me I wouldn't have held it against her (it was a difficult situation for us too). My mom is pretty amazballs though, so having a good stepmom was just cherry on top.

Re: Arya and the Hound.
It's the same with Sansa and Joffrey actually.
Re: Tyrion's look and hair.
I read somewhere that D&D did that on purpose. But unfortunately I don't remember where.

In my imagination Benjen knows about Lyanna and Rhaegar and I always see him saying to Jon "You should have kids, you know, to keep the Targ bloodline going" in addition to just maybe expressing that he himself might have regrets about not being able to have a family ever.

I'm reminded of how much I hate Cersei. Everything that's happened is her fault. Cersei and Jaime's getting caught screwing in the tower was just the catalyst that propelled the train forward ... the engine was already running if you remember. Littlefinger convincing Lysa to kill Jon Arryn is really what I consider "everything that's happened is his/her fault" in the story. His chaos theory started the pot boiling and Robert and Ned were really just pawns in that as Littlefinger knew Robert would get Ned involved. So yes, it's Cersei and her incestuous relationship with Jaime that caused Jon Arryn's death (because he knew the truth) but only indirectly after someone else started the ball rolling.

Very strong pilot episode. To me the, the first season is the best adapted of the seasons, it stays closer to the source material. I have never been a Cat fan, primarily due to her treatment of Jon, no matter how upset she is with Ned over his "infidelity", it was never Jon's fault. However, I wonder why Ned never revealed the truth to Cat about Jon's parentage. I think she would have kept Ned's secret, and treated Jon a whole lot better too. Tyrion's hair was extremely different in the first episode, but it does look closer to what is described in the books. I love the nods to Rhaegar and Lyanna, setting up the first clues to R+L=J.
