Also, the Gendry/Arya 'm'lady/you could be my family' scene wasn't in the books at all. There wasn't anything even close, so it will be all 'show only' if that circles around again.
The 'I have a son/you have a daughter' scene between Robert and Ned was in the books, however.

Speculating about the leaked images... Since Gendry is back in S7 and looks like he's dressed a bit better than we last saw him...would Dany legitimize him? His great grandmother was Rhaelle Targaryen. Also the Baratheon line was originally started by Orys Baratheon...rumored to be a legitimized Targaryen bastard. (and everything seems to crcle around to previous history in this story) Gendry definitely has blood of the dragon. He's not anywhere close enough to stand in the way of Dany's (or Jon's)claim, unless they recognize Robert B's claim...which they won't. I'm just wondering if they give ShowGendry some of Edric Storm's story. The boy wasn't written into the book and then whisked away for nothing. Also, with Dany being Aegon the Conqueror come again, the comparison with Orys is a good one.

Watched some interesting theory videos about Gendry this weekend and one person mentioned a line Melisandre gave Gendry when she took him from the BWB as significant: As we all know, Melisandre's words taken from her visions, are often not exactly true to the reality of what happens. She has the context of the visions skewed - like seeing the future through a distorted lens. She correctly saw herself walking the battlements of Winterfell, but it was her mistake between Stannis and Jon Snow that became her own downfall. Like many religious fanatics, she took what she believed to the extremes. But Melisandre DID see things that came true and some that have yet to come true, such as meeting Arya again and the words she told Gendry. I think the line "You will make Kings rise and fall" is a very important bit of foreshadowing for Gendry's return. As a blacksmith who may very well become the key player in forging Valyrian steel, could it be Melisandre's predictions about Gendry come true not because she intended to sacrifice him (again, her fanaticism clouding her judgement of the visions) but because he will forge weapons (and even perhaps THE weapon) which finally destroys the Night King? Will a king fall and another rise because of Gendry's smithing?

I wonder if Dany and Gendry bond over their combined hatred of Robert Baratheon?

Hyping the Blackfish, Osha, Rickon, Doran, Walder Frey (ok fuck him) ... only to have them die the next episode after their return scenes. ENOUGH already!!

Thought I'd revisit the Gendry Hype Train, since we are getting so much good information about him for this season.
I do think Gendry being a smith is going to come into play, along with Sam's documents purloined from the Citadel. Perhaps the secret of Valyrian steel? We have Heartsbane, another great sword, which could be remade into two swords if needed. I also think if Gendry survives he will become the restored House Baratheon, since he is a distant cousin of Dany and Jon. The only outstanding question I have about his return is Arya.
"I have a son, you have a daughter." We all know that Martin doesn't use words without them having double-, sometimes triple meanings. I could see Arya and Gendry together, but not as lord and lady. I could see Gendry giving up the Stormlands for a keep closer to Winterfell, so Arya could be closer to her family. I could also see the two of them traveling before settling down. Both have endured something the others cannot understand, and that can be a powerful attraction.

I see some loyalists have kept this hype train chugging faithfully along, all this time! Lady Sansa's Direwolf, Envie, katjushka, Balerion's Whiskers, mandzipop and others. He's GOT to be coming back, yes? I mean, Mel's prediction that Gendry 'will make kings rise and fall' (with or without his shirt on...) always makes me think Gendry (with or without his shirt on...) will be using that smith's hammer on the skull of some 'king' or that he will save a king (Jon Snow?) with his hammer. Whatever, here's to the Gendry hype train--full speed ahead!!

"I have a son, you have a daughter." We all know that Martin doesn't use words without them having double-, sometimes triple meanings. Well, currently House Stark most likely has only females capable of producing an heir. Bran may not be physically capable, Rickon and Robb are dead and Jon isn't a Stark. That leaves Sansa and Arya and unless they marry someone willing to take the Stark name it will die. There is precedent for this happening when there are only female heirs, so it may happen that way. Gendry takes the Stark name...or someone Sansa decides to marry (yes, that fuels the SanSan shippers, but I think Sandor doesn't survive) Regardless, House Stark is in serious trouble without a named heir. I ship Gendry and Arya big time and hope they end up alive and together regardless whether he's a Baratheon, Waters or Stark... please don't bring him back just to kill him!

We have kept the fire burning... it may have burned low but the embers were still there and it only takes a little spark to catch the flames again! Gendry is a character with a lot of potential in the story like Beric and Thoros who did return, Gendry has to be important enough to finally end up somewhere... rowing off into the sunset can't be the end of his story.

I wonder if Dany and Gendry bond over their combined hatred of Robert Baratheon? he really deserves to join her club of children of bad fathers and bend the knee to get legitimized by her. House Baratheon could have a lord again thanks to someone Robert wanted killed. it'd be beautiful. at the very least, he'd tell how he hated the previous holder of dragonstone, and that would be pretty great.
