Completely horrific. It's getting to the point we can't go a week or two without some kind of massive tragedy. Fucked up times we're living in.

It's not just Islam, here in the US we face a serious issues with gun control so we are fighting a gun fetishism. I have Muslim friend and I feel bad for them because the vast majority of Muslims are good people, there is just an extremest branch to it, which Christians have been through, throughout history. It's hard to say, I don't think there is an easy answer.

It's hard to say, I don't think there is an easy answer. There's really not any short-term solution to the problem. An ideology can only really be weakened by the passage of time. Some ideologies are quicker to adapt/dissipate whereas others take longer. Honestly (pessimistically) I don't think we'll see an end to all this violence and extremism in our lifetimes. It'll probably be many generations before its ever fixed. What irritates me the most is the double standards people have when an attack occurs:- "If it's a Muslim then it's the fault of every Muslim" "If it's a white person then it's an isolated incident" Today is the day of Jo Cox's (MP who was killed) funeral and now that this awful attack has happened in Nice some people seem to be forgetting about the ideology of the man who killed her and they're now jumping at the opportunity to attack Islam. It's just disgusting to me.

Here in the US it's very noticeable especially with the disgusting amount of gun violence that happens here. All these lone gunman are isolated incidents, no motherfucker, they are domestic theorist. I remember reading about Jo Cox, sad story a promising young politician. The guy that killed her was motivated by the Brexit, correct?

I remember reading about Jo Cox, sad story a promising young politician. The guy that killed her was motivated by the Brexit, correct? Well, when asked in court he gave his name as "Death to traitors. Freedom for Britain" and there were early reports that he shouted "(Put) Britain first" when he killed her. Incidentally, "Britain First" is the name of a small far-right party who have frequently called for the lynching of 'traitors' and also advocate bringing back the death penalty and often criticise (to put it lightly) the EU. But obviously there is absolutely no connection there. Seriously though, yes there is no doubt he was motivated by Brexit.

Utterly, utterly devastating news. The world doesn't even have time to adequately mourn one atrocity before another happens, and a huge part of the response is totally fear and accusatory/blame based, and reactionary, all of which tend to just exacerbate the problem. And in the US, the absolute refusal of Congress to even legislate a required background check is an abomination (there, that's my soap box for today). Somebody on FB a while back posted an imaginary - but completely realistic - conversation between a man and a clerk in a drugstore. The man wanted to buy a couple of boxes of Sudafed for a cold, but the clerk explained that by law, he could only sell one. So the man (completely tongue in check, but still), said, "Ok, just the one box of Sudafed, then, and these 12 guns." What?

Apparently the Nice attacker wasn't very religious and never went to the mosque and drank beer often. There's also the fact that no group has claimed responsibility for the attack (yet). I wonder if this'll change some people's perceptions? Probably not though.

Just saw on msnbc (US) a Reuters report that the military in Turkey claims it's taken over the gov't - claiming "a coup against democracy". However, msnbc reports that the coup is in progress, not yet accomplished.

Whatever happens I hope it's resolved quickly. The last fucking thing the world needs is another civil war in the Middle East.

Well said izzue ... it seems one terrible incident after the next is costing many innocent people their lives because one person decides to go crazy. I refuse blame all this on 'terrorism' which is mostly just a convenient way to disguise racism by those who think their own race is somehow without blame in what I truly believe is a world-wide human problem. Our species is ill ... not well, and we need to fix it on so many levels. People are just snapping. Coming unglued. Mental health seems to be more and more to blame than anything. We're sick on the inside, not the outside. Why? A man goes crazy and shoots people in a night-club. Snipers kill cops at a "Black Lives Matter" protest. Man goes crazy and shoots children and teachers in a school (these are just a few US examples) .. but it's everywhere in the world. France has suffered a lot lately too. It's not even a gun issue (though guns in the US are still a problem) when a man with a vehicle can kill that many people in minutes. It's not Black lives matter, or police, or children, or gays, or anyone specific ... it's HUMAN LIVES MATTER. I am sad.

It amazes me that we get such good photos of things like this so quickly.
