Tell us about a show that you feel you should like or you are supposed to like, but for whatever reason you just can't get into it.

I will go first.
One that I feel that way about is The Americans. I like spy and secret agent stuff. I like Cold War stories. I like stuff on Russia of any time period. I want to love this show, but I don't.
I watched the first season and watched 7 episodes of the second season and then just said I'm done. There were parts that I liked a lot, but a lot of times I felt I was watching variations of the same scene over and over again. I will say that when Keri Russell went to Phillip's wedding looking like Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie I absolutely howled with delight. The woman should have won some sort of award for the best retro look of the decade. Nevertheless I had to cut that show.

I'm constantly told it gets better after the first season (I quit about hallway through S1), but I just can't be bothered to pick it back up. I think a handful of episodes should be more than enough to know if a show is for me or not. I'm usually hooked after one or two if it's something I'm interested in. Black Sails is another one for me. Watched most of the first season, but damn if they didn't manage to make a show about pirates boring as hell. The characters were bland and uninteresting, and nothing about it really had any appeal to me. I' constantly hearing about how great both these shows are too.

Black Sails gets WAY better after season 1. I wanted to die at times during the first season but you stopped right before it starts to get good. I've already gotten some shit by you people for this, but I hated the first few episodes of Breaking Bad and that combined with the overwhelming position it took in pop culture turned me off from it. If I can get past the stuff I hated, I'll probably go back to it someday after its well removed from its TV run. Daredevil is another one. I didn't even get to the point that Vincent D'Onofrio shows up I know it's supposed to be dark, but it just felt too dark at times and Karen was the only character I liked a little bit. I never watched Jessica Jones because I figured it was just more of the same. And then there's Angie Tribeca. I love Rashida Jones and all of my friends told me it was great, but the comedy was so over the top after ten minutes of the first episode that I just stopped immediately.

I think it takes them too long to develop their storylines and I think they just try to push too much into the story, so that by the time it starts moving, it is so convoluted, you have forgotten half of it. Once the story develops it is usually pretty good, but they take way too long to get there. I have no idea if I will continue to watch it.

I wanted to like Jessica Jones over all, and I really enjoyed parts of it, but it was mostly a mess.

I wanted to like Jessica Jones over all, and I really enjoyed parts of it, but it was mostly a mess. Same here. I feel like I should be loving Jessica Jones, because I love Daredevil and it has a lot of things I care about in TV: dark atmosphere, decent actors and strong female characters... And tbh I did enjoy parts of it, especially how the show dealt with rape and rape culture, but apart from that I have to say that it was a mess for the most part IMHO. I loved Breaking Bad. I've watched it several times from start to finish... but somehow I couldn't get into Better Call Saul. I watched the first few episodes and thought it was extremely slow and boring. Does it get better?

Jessica Jones was at least as good as Daredevil in my eyes. At least. If not better.

Him having a large role on BCS definitely factors in to how much I like it. The best scene the show has done was between him and the lovely Kerry Condon (Octavia!). The writing and acting is top notch imo.

Jessica Jones S1 was a 5/10 tops. I really enjoyed the first three episodes (and maybe also the scene in which Jessica confronts Kilgrave with the fact that he raped her. ), but then it fell off a cliff pretty fast IMHO.

This can always influence how you perceive something.

Friends. But if you mean more recent shows, then it's fear the walking dead. I just cannot get into it at all. It feels like I'm trying to find other things to do everything I sit down to watch it...

Does it get better? For me, a lot of what makes JJ messy is the poorly choreographed fight scenes. Daredevil excels at that and JJ is so sloppy. Ritter barely puts anything into it.

Now that Banshee is over Daredevil has the best fight scenes on tv. And it's not even close.

It has its moments but jesus if it isn't the most overwritten thing I've ever seen in my life. The writers are absolutely in love with their overly verbose way of writing dialogue. I lost count of how many scenes there were this season of characters explaining to other characters what the other characters' motivations were, which sounds like a convoluted way of explaining it but that's pretty apt in all honesty. It becomes so tedious to listen to their exchanges that I'd itch for the next...actual thing to happen. Not because I dislike dialogue-driven drama but because that isn't this show's strength - the incredible set-pieces built around careful character development are. Seriously that storm sequence at the start of the season is breathtaking and the ship CGI in general puts GoT to shame, but that isn't enough. It's disappointing because Season 2 was wonderful. Flint's backstory was such an effective slow burn for the first half before causing everything to explode into chaos in the second. Toby didn't have much to work with this season, though, in fact the three most interesting pirates were largely separated. At least the development of Silver was starting to pay off, hopefully that culminates in something worthwhile. There's only one season left so I'll stick it out.
