TheMadQueen, Ah I realized you mentioned Eva some pages back, she would be great in the prequel, whatever they end up doing.

Glad to see GRRM clarified a few things:
-5 Pilot Scripts - not four! -All prequel stories. It was hard to envision a sequel story continuing past Season 8, at least in the immediate future of that timeline. -Bryan Cogman has to be the 5th writer. "and aside from me and maybe Elio and Linda, I don't know anyone who knows and loves Westeros as well as he does." -He's involved with the writing in all the pilots. It's huge to have his involvement, but it's a huge letdown on TWOW and ADOS watch. All his talk of "no more writing until TWOW is finished" was utter rubbish unless he's done TWOW (doubtful). It also irks me that he's not writing an episode in Season 8, but maybe that's the story he can't spill the beans on, he's alluding to. I'm such a sweet summer child. -4 more Wild Card books coming - really?
I'd like to see him confirm that TV and the books are a separate canon of sorts. I asked him that question on his blog, we'll see if it gets through and gets answered.
EDIT: Updated original post

I'm bummed it's not Dunk & Egg, but at least it's not RR. GRRM put it perfectly here: We're not doing Robert's Rebellion either. I know thousands of you want that, I know there's a petition... but by the time I finish writing A SONG OF ICE & FIRE, you will know every important thing that happened in Robert's Rebellion. There would be no surprises or revelations left in such a show, just the acting out of conflicts whose resolutions you already know. That's not a story I want to tell just now; it would feel too much like a twice-told tale.I'm definitely down for Aegon's Conquest, although after D&E, TPatQ would be my next choice. I'm one of only two people who voted for Aegon's Conquest ... Now I'm going to have to start speculating on WHO will play the role of Aegon the Conqueror. Oh the fantasies begin...

Ok, I need to confess something. I've never really paid any attention whatsoever to the history and the lore of this world apart from a few things that were mentioned in the books (that I've forgotten by now anyway). All those funny Targaryen names you guys keep mentioning mean virtually nothing to me. Time to change that.

Even if you just start reading the wiki from time to time, you'll catch up in no time on the histories and there's some fascinating material there to work with as others have pointed out. Modern day Westeros/Essos is not the only place where outrageous sex scandals, tyranny and insane battles took place. It's just the one we have the most details about. I think some of the historical stuff like Dance of the Dragons was even more insane with all the political intrigue and backstabbing that went on. Could be majorly heartbreaking for me though, to see dragons fighting dragons.

I heard they were pretty decent and I like to hear our actors' voices.

I would imagine it's the same with D&D, I thought I read somewhere that GRRM discusses the scripts with them before filming.

Every season, Martin has always been involved with reviewing the outlines that D&D create. Source. Then each episode is assigned to a writer, that's where GRRM has been slightly disconnected since Season 4. Like you said maybe he's a little bit more involved with Season 8 since he had the ending years ago.

It wouldn't take as much time as re-read the books, so it's a great option. This is a good place to start:

Those videos are cool, but I highly recommend TPatQ. It's a quick read at only 80 something pages (iirc), and it really is a great story. Not only all the good characters and crazy action, but the descriptions of all the dragons make it worth reading just for them.

Alexander Skarsgård would make a good Aegon The Conqueror, imo.
And he's already done 2 HBO shows...
