I agree with Basil. To me season 2 was not plot driven and was a very character driven piece. Especially the first half. Anyway, I loved the season. Agree with the general consensus that episode 7 was a series low and kind of killed the momentum of the season, but the rest was brilliant. I loved the slow burn first half and the ending was perfect. Also agree with Basil in that the ending was pretty conclusive with no loose ends. It wrapped the story up nicely and if they never continue then I'd be very satisfied with it as an ending for the series. So 'set up for season 3' doesn't sit well with me. There's definitely capacity for further seasons (a prequel with the test subject kids, for example) or a spin off (Kali and her crew), but I don't feel like this was a set up season.

I've still got two episodes left because I'm binging with my husband so I have to wait but I just finished episode 7 That was insanely boring and really took me out of the story. I get why it's necessary to learn more about Eleven and I like that Kali accepted her right away, but I was not feeling it. That didn't need an entire episode and it felt like they were testing the waters for later seasons having a group of kids with powers. Yes, yes, though I didn't feel episode 7 at all and once it's spoiler free I'll say why, cause I hate spoiler conversations. But I had some other issues aside from what you pointed out, but man it totally pulled me out of the episode.

Totally disagree I thought season one was much better. I liked it but the whole thing is clunky and a clear setup for season 3. I agree about Jonathan and Nancy plots, I liked them last year and this year they were Duds. On the other hand Steve in season one started out as a Dbag, became a decent guy and went all the way to most likable of the three by a mile. I thought they went to big with the central plot. Lucas was redundant this year, Max I liked but her story was very underdeveloped, and wtf is Billy? I hate then I almost feel bad for him, then I think he is funny and they I want to snap his neck. Poorly developed and the exact opposite of how well Steve have has been developed. I thought it was good but hated episode 7, just could not stand the characters. Pure garbage, and ridiculous antics, horrible acting, just bad on every level. D still rules, but the Dart sub split was stupid, the boys know better and it was totally telegraphed. I didn't use spoilers because I did not really speak about anything plot related other than there are plots and sub plots. It's good, but I thought last year was clearly better. Ithought they over reached and tried to do to much. You could expand everyone's story but trying to add a bunch of new characters, and give them their own stories while expanding everyone else made everyone's sub plots feel under developed, I thought Max who l liked saw her back story suffer the most from this. Pretty much agree with everything. I thought the season started slow and although it got better with each episode it didn't feel as cohesive and focused as the first season. It was more plot driven than character driven. Don't get my wrong, i still enjoyed it very much I just wasn't as drawn in as I was the first time. It pulled me in early and then started to lose me. I liked it to and I didn't expect or look for it to be better or worse, just wanted to see the characters again and get pulled back to the 80's. I was the same age as those kids at that exact time, and season one just sucked me in and never lost me. I also liked how small the world felt in season one, like when your a kid, the world is a very small place even though it seems huge. I think your right in that it was imbalanced, and making me wait to episode 9 for the goods, man they are lucky I can binge watch, cause if had to wait 9 weeks I would been riffing that show for 8 weeks. I got 2 damn minutes of what I waited over a year for. Game of thrones made me wait 7, but 😂 Delivered the goods all season and we get more next season. Plus Billy = Euron.

I thought it was the same flawed show it was in season 1. The performances and the brilliantly delivered payoffs are what I come for, not the 80s stuff which has always felt forced and superficial. The references and music cues were mindbogglingly obvious early on, and I wouldn't care if the show was set in any other era. But the actors are wonderful, kids and adults, and they breathe life into the characters even if the story isn't serving them particularly well.
Dustin and Steve basically owned the season. On the other hand it's a shame they reduced Mike to an angsty mess, and whilst i get the decision to have Eleven follow her own path, it left his character with little to play. And yeah, episode 7 was dreadful, sorry, it killed the momentum at the worst possible time. Still, they pulled it off again I'd say, so fair play.

Is it okay to have a spoiler edition to this? I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but it's hard to have a conversation with nothing but spoiler tags.
So season 2 really liked it, but I thought season 1 was better and holds up better as a stand alone season. I had some problems with this season.
Starting off I got pulled right in and was wondering what Dragons Lair the over priced piece of shit game would have to do with the season. Games being clue starting in season 1. Was Dany and her dragons going to show up? Dig dug became obvious pretty quick. Dragons Lair ends up setting up another love triangle. This time between Lucas, Dustin and Max, aka Mad Max.
The arcade pulled me in and the boys were as charming as ever. Though as season one left some questions about will open we soon find those questions pointing to Wil once more being the plot device for the upside down.
I'll leave it there in case anyone wants to talk about this openly and moving forward, because I know there are some differences of opinion, and I think episode 7 is up for debate about why some liked it, some didn't, and I personally hated it. There is also the question of, did they really just repeat a lot of season one and try and put a different package on it?

Oh and I feel robbed we didn't get more of the giant spider monster. Can't get enough of that guy. The Maman spider thing? You didn't really get any of it. Just some quick images. You know it's set in the 80's for a reason. Smaller world, less rules, no internet, no cell phones, more imagination and originality. I can't imagine these kids being in a modern setting. You know the Demigorgon on YouTube cause everyone filmed it, a rally to protect the Alien monster, kids never getting together just talking on their smart phones. Mike running the safe space club at the bubble school, and 11 in Hollywood staring in movies, while another demented producers tries use her and start a demented and sick relationship. One on the draws of Stranger things is seeing normal kids, acting normal, in world not filled with so much noise. Makes for better escapism. Show makes me feel like a kid again, probably the only thing to do that sense I was a kid. Could you imagine Dustin on Halloween in 2017? "Do you have any peanut free, no sugar, no die, organic treats? Yippy dental floss, my favorite. It's in my top 3 along with unsented soap, and wheat grass juice." Now days we could watch a bunch kids have an app dress em because coming up with your own style, and figuring out what to wear is to hard. Yeah no thanks, as for the music, the difference from then and now? Now they just remix those songs. It's much easier to do horror and mystery in the 80's it was a lot harder to connect back then.

One thing, media and Emmy voters tend to group the boys all as one and separate Millie and only praise her acting. That definitely needs to stop after the performance Noah Shnapp gave this season. He was phenomenal. All the kids were, but he especially had to do a lot of really difficult scenes, and I hope he gets proper accolades for it. My thoughts overall: Amazing season. This is how you do character development. I felt like I learned so much more about each character (sans Mike, who got the most development last season) You can definitely tell they got a higher budget, the SFX looked amazing, especially in that last episode with Eleven and Hopper closing the gate. I'm glad Nancy and Jonathan are now a thing. I don't care if it's rushed or cliche, JANCY FOR LIFE BITCHES! :fap: I actually ended up liking Steve so much this season. I haaaaated him in S1 so much, but I love his dynamic with the kids and how he stepped up as a babysitter. That was wonderful. Sean Astin was a nice addition and I'm sad to see him go. I wondered early on if he was some type of plant and he was only with Joyce to spy on Will, but I'm glad that's not the case and he was just a nice, goofy guy. He got a worthy death scene. Max is a lovely addition to the group too, the actress may not be as strong as the rest of them but I think she'll get there. Mike and Eleven kissing at the dance was adorable. Aww young love. There are three complaints I have for the season overall. I'll start with the petty one. 1) Mike was such a dick to Max. I get he was upset about Eleven being gone and seeing this girl triggered him, but he continued to be douchey towards her even after El came back. Then we never got an apology scene, which I felt was needed. It really got to me how shitty she was being treated. 2) Billy. I expected him to have something huge to do with the story the way they were ominously writing him, and it ends up he's just a dick because his dad hits him? Come on. What a waste of time. 3) Episode 7. I think Scott Gimple has ruined bottle episodes for me for life. I get why they did this. I think learning about Eleven's past was necessary, but it did not need to be an entire episode in the middle of the climax. The placement was so bad. I think they should've cut out all of Kali's idiot friends, and just have Eleven meet her. Keep her supportive (because I did like that aspect) and just have her teach Eleven a few things in short scenes throughout the episode. Not all at once. It was too jarring and poorly done.

Oh wow, this was one brilliant season. I loved it so, so much. I'm a bit surprised at some of the things mentioned in this thread. For example the notion that S2 was just setting up S3. To me the polar opposite is true. This could have literally been the series finale. It was an ending, not a set-up. In fact, S1 ended with a lot more cliffhangers. S2 basically has none. Similarly, I think this season was very character-driven and not that plot-driven at all. If anything I thought the first 2 episodes could have used a bit more plot, but they found the perfect balance pretty soon. Episode 7 was a low point only by comparison, because the rest was so good. The episode is a 7/10 at worst to me. The worst thing about it was not even what's in the episode, just the placement within the season. It was a very important episode for the most important character of the show. It could have literally been titled "The Characterisation of Eleven" There are so many little moments throughout the season that I loved. Every character had something. Steve and Dustin. Those two. The acting was great too. Just like day dreamer , I need to emphasise all the great things that Noah Schnapp did this season. He SLAYED me. His moment with Winona in episode 4 was easily my favourite acting moment of the entire season. And that is saying something, because Winona and Millie and the others did wonderful things too. IMO Stranger Things 2 was a nearly flawless season of television and quite possibly my favourite season of any show this year. I agree with day dreamer's negative points, but they are so small and meaningless in comparison to the great things this show does.

I wouldn't call what they did with Episode 7 meaningless, that was a huge misstep for a show of this quality. lol They need to supress the urge to break away from the story like that ever again.

Episode 7 was fine. It wasn't my favourite episode of the season, but I didn't hate it either. I think it was immensely important for Eleven's character development. There was a lot of darkness and (justified) anger in her and she needed at least some resolution before she could go back and join her friends.
I'm glad they did it all in one episode too, because otherwise, I might have gotten frustrated with that storyline, if it was spread out over like three or four seperate episodes. It was a self-contained character episode for Eleven, and I'm fine with that. It also resolved in a very satisfying manner I thought, which totally made up for some of the things I didn't like about it.

Yeah, I watched Episode 7 and I just thought that it was unfortunately placed after the cliffhanger of Ep 6. The episode itself was nothing groundbreaking either but still had its moments. I really don't see the huge problem with it. It's not even close to being an awful bottle episode a la The Walking Dead. It is still very much connected to everything else (the ending) and we learn a lot about Eleven. All in all, it was a decent episode which felt a bit out of place and had a couple of clunky lines perhaps. But apart from that, I can't really come up with anything else that bothered me about it. Calling it a terrible episode seems hyperbolic to me. But we'll have to agree to disagree I guess.

Just finished it, and I loved it almost as much as S1. El and Hopper's scenes together were easily my favorite part. And since we're talking about spreading some love around for actors other than MBB (who was fantastic yet again), I have to give a shout out for David Harbour. He was SO good this season. The Steve and Dustin stuff was a lot of fun too.

The thing that pissed me off most about 7 was the positioning of the episode. Beyond the cardboard cutout punk cliche characters straight out of the Beat It music video, barely existent sort-of-Matrix/sort-of-crime-caper story, playing Bon Jovi's Runaway when Eleven is, uh, running away, it was placed right when I was just getting really invested in the main story.
I understood the desire to expand the universe a bit, and Eleven is obviously the best character to do that with, but it was both badly timed and poorly executed. It's such a step below the rest of the season I don't hesitate in calling it terrible.
