I don't pretend to know much about dresses. I ain't no Joan Rivers. They're all just wrapping paper to me. But when you get them glimpses of leg and side and arm like that, she could be in a paper bag and I'd be sated.

The Crown? Ugh. What a load of shite. I'm happy Hiddleston and Laurie got something for Night Manager, but doesn't Olivia Coleman have enough awards? She was just kinda standard in that show. I can't believe they snubbed both Westworld and Thrones

Hell or High Water should have won best screenplay too.
And I'm already sick of hearing about La La Land. Which tbf I haven't seen, but I don't really have any desire to do so.

Also one of the movies we got from the DGA, it wasn't bad, but not as amazing as they made it sound. I think it's getting a lot of praise because of its feel good vibe and lighter tone, which was something needed in the shitty 2016.

I mean, I loved Whiplash, but La La Land just doesn't interest me whatsoever. Musicals aren't really my thing.

Hell or High Water should have won best screenplay too. And I'm already sick of hearing about La La Land. Which tbf I haven't seen, but I don't really have any desire to do so. I saw it, and while this may upset some, it's over hyped. The cinematography is the best part of the movie, the music is forgettable along with the numbers. This sort of reminds me of Broadway and what sometimes happens there these days in that they cast actors who while they have good chemistry and big names can't sing or dance, which is kind of the point of a musical. Stone/Mia gives the better of the two performances, her best scene is her phone conversation audition/ Story about her aunt but she does not exactly emote through music, it's more about her eyes, and the camera loves her, but her singing? Sebastian/Gosling seemed flat through the movie and this is Chazzell's projection to once again save Jazz, though I saw him use this theme before in Whiplash and Whiplash was better. Gosling and Stone may have chemistry but Crazy Stupid Love is still their best movie together and that did not win any Globes or Oscars. Still they each gave better performances in that movie. The final 45 minutes to and hour are flat until the finale which was done well and is pretty flashy. It's a good movie and it has good moments, but the plot is thin and I don't know I never felt the desperation they are suppose to have, Gosling and Stone have a ton of chemistry though not as much as I have scene in the past and that is mostly because they are out of their element. Big names for roles they are not entirely suited for. Singin' in the Rain got zero Oscars and 1 Globe, and never saw this kind of hype and it may be the greatest musical of all time, and Grease was not only better but is an Iconic genre film and it didn't get this kind of spin, people calling it the greatest musical of all time? Really? If 30 years from now the general public has a single song or dance number they remember from this movie I will eat my hat. I'll be surprised if anyone even remembers it 5 years from now. I feel like because people needed something more up beat, and the throw back nature to the days of musicals and color saturation, got this movie some extra credit in a rather dark year. Screenplay wise. Should Stone get the award, given the competition I would say yes. Should Gosling have won? I would of taken another Ryan, but again thin field. I mean Jonah Hill was nominated for a mediocre role in a mediocre movie. On a side note, the Crown? Really? Chances are Thrones, Stranger Things, and Westworld split the field to heavily. That's just a guess though.

I am thinking intervention here, she is starting move from lovely girl to what sounds a bit like dinner. Even got her in a little lunch bag.

Sure, it often happens in film adaptations of Broadway musicals (Gerard Butler's Phantom is the worst thing that has ever happened to me) - but I have yet to see a modern Broadway stage show that would cast someone who can't sing or dance for shit in a role that requires both.

That's kinda funny given your avatar, because Radcliffe who I think is a talented young man can't sing or dance and was given the lead in In how to succeed in business. Now it's charming musical and charm plays to his strength, and their is nothing terribly complicated about the dancing or numbers. You can teach someone the basics of a routine, Debbie Renolds. But he can't sing, his voice is thin pitchy and he can't project. When it came to just acting he was good I would not say great, and he could not sing. And they worked to cover for him a lot. Like Debbie could not dance though she had a great partner to carry her in the dancing, but she could belt. You can't teach a complex routine to just anyone and there was nothing complex about the Dancing, but he can't sing, sorry. That is not a Broadway voice, you don't here people on Broadway going we need a lead singer for a musical, make sure he is a pitchy, thin voiced tenor who can't project. To be honest he is the only reason to have seen that show, but not because of his singing, it's a dated musical that's been done better before. Radcliff's name put butts in seats. And it looked like he had fun and I think he probably worked his ass off. That does not change his voice. I think they were kind when they said his singing was sort of passable. For local theater sure, but it's Broadway and they were nice to the very charming star, while they were trying to pull in the youth market. He was clearly better in the Dance routines, but again you can teach an non overly complex routine. That is where I would say he was passable, but that voice really? You hear that and go wow that's a lead Broadway singer. You got 4 octave belters out there who have to fight for parts and he got handed that role because of his name and his connection to youth. If he was a nobody at an open audition do you think he would ever be allowed to sing in a Broadway musical, let alone the lead. Come on?

If he was a nobody at an open audition do you think he would ever be allowed to sing in a Broadway musical, let alone the lead. Come on? I won't argue that Daniel Radcliffe is a great singer, because obviously he's not, but I think he's still a totally acceptable tenor and he did a pretty amazing job with the dance numbers. I'd argue that Radcliffe's vocal flaws, semi-competence and overeagerness just happened to fit the character pretty well. Not every role requires classically trained singers, Finch is one of those roles, in my opinion. If he had been cast in some vocally damanding role like Phantom or Sweeney Todd, then I'd absolutely agree with you, but he was cast in a funny role that benefits much more from an actor's charisma and comedic timing than his vocal talents, and I think Radcliffe absolutely succeeded at that. True, he probably wouldn't have been cast if it wasn't for his Harry Potter fame, but he worked his ass off and despite being a medicore (but still totally servicable) singer, he didn't do a bad job at all. I'n not saying miscasts don't happen on Broadway, but I don't think totally incompetent singers and dancers would get cast in roles that require competent singing and dancing. Radcliffe in How To Succeed in Business wasn't incredible, but he was adequate.
