Hirst killed Sigurd off... WTF? And what the fuck was he thinking with that last scene? People who only watch the show and don't know shit about behind the scenes stuff must've been confused as fuck.

Yeah, if he had to kill one, it should've been Vitserk. He could've replaced their roles and have Sigurd go with Björn to Mediterranean and let the two oldest brothers stay with their mother at Kattegat. The ending was quite awkward. Suddenly we're introduced to a new character, then we have a sex scene with that said character which ends in him having a orgasm, while zooming to his (metallic) sword. I guess Halfdan replaces this guy as Björn's companion in the Mediterranean en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hastein

I think this proves Hirst doesn't have much of a master plan and doesn't care much about history/sagas. I'm pretty sure the Seer even mentioned Sigurd back in s2, when Ragnar asked about his sons. He said one of them would marry a king's daughter and another (Bjorn) would sail around a sea with no tides. I remembering wiki'ing that at the time and Sigurd seems to be the only one who married a princess.

I don't know if anybody knows much of the specific details of the sagas but... It's entirely possible that Sigurd isn't dead.

I don't know if anybody knows much of the specific details of the sagas but... It's entirely possible that Sigurd isn't dead. his funeral is in the s5 trailer roose posted. and i'd already noticed that the cast instagrams include plenty of the ivar/hvitserk/ubbe actors together but only a few with all 4 of the newbies, sigurd being gone after a funeral in 5.01 would explain that absence. i'm not really sad to see him go as he was easily my least favorite ragnarson and he came off as too stupid to live in that scene, antagonizing ivar like that after ivar had twice attacked him. if he was deemed disposable from the start of s4 (or at least from the most recent time jump in the 4a finale) that could explain why hirst made sigurd a whiney erlendur-lookalike.

I agree, Sigurd was the most disposable brother. He just wasn't as 'spunky' as the others, he did get interesting in the last scene though- so he's gay or bisexual. They could have explored that instead of the weird incestual love triangles. I really enjoyed the last few episodes, thought the Aethulwulf vs Ragnar sons battlescene was really good. Love some tactics. I enjoyed Lagertha being a badass again. I actually liked that King Harald and that woman had some sort of conclusion, at least they didn't introduce or waste her introduction. Floki . I didn't want Helga to die, but she was being silly trying to make a refugee child lover her when she was taken from her family and had to see them killed in front of her.

I'm quite sure that was just Ivar attacking him verbally, emasculating him by basically calling him gay. While the vikings didn't really look down on homosexuality, they looked down on men who would "offer themselves to be taken like women". Who knows though, perhaps he was gay or bi, like you said. I personally thought that the battle between Aethelwulf and Ragnarssons was badly done, tactics wise. Abandoning the shield wall and charging at cavalry like that? Not good. I wish they made their battles more like in Seasons 1-3. The quality of battles in 4B has been seriously worse than in the earlier seasons or 4B IMO.

Yeh it seemed to me like that attack had truth to it because Sigurd looked a little hurt by it. Ivar's idea was to cause confusion and spread out the army. I think it worked pretty well. They could charge at the calvary because they had the upper hand and Aethulwulf was totally confused, plus the place they decided to charge was a more narrow passage i believe. Who tf was that in the last scene, a new kingdom?
