My brother has read them, and told me little bits and pieces. I'm planning to get around to them eventually. They're short, so it's not too overwhelming considering how many there are. I don't think the 10th one is the last either. I think they're around 300/400 pages so not bad. I meant 10 books so far, but Uhtred would be like 60 or so by then. The books are written in the first person as his memoirs, so yeah he is a very old man by the end of the story.

The books don't go much further than 340 pages. And 10 isn't the last one. Uhtred is about 35 at the point I'm at right now. There are a couple characters that should have been introduced last season but don't actually become crucial until this season so I'm curious how they'll address that. I imagine since they didn't know if this would go more than a season, they didn't want to add too many characters, but now they're necessary to the story. Oh ok. I know Alfred's daughter becomes pretty crucial to the story and then there's another Dane named Haesten who wasn't introduced yet. It also seems like from the production of S2, they're keeping Brida around, who I've read up on a bit and she doesn't appear in the third or fourth novel, so I guess her role will be expanded and she'll just be with Ragnar.

If I remember correctly, Brida is in the third book briefly. I don't want to ruin anything for anybody so I'll add this in spoilers: Haesten is the big one who keeps coming back to bother Uhtred in every book, but he starts out serving Uhtred after he kills Ubba, so I'm curious to see how they work him in now that they've moved beyond that. Steapa is the other one that I think would have to be included now. He serves Alfred and was the one who fought Uhtred after his raids in Cornwallum rather than Leofric, but I figure that's where they decided to use one character they had rather than add a new one. But Steapa is one of Uhtred's closest allies so I'm hoping they introduce him this season. And yes, Aethelflæd becomes extremely important, but more so in the second half of this upcoming season and the first half of season three (assuming it happens).

And yes, Aethelflæd becomes extremely important, but more so in the second half of this upcoming season and the first half of season three (assuming it happens). They could probably introduce Haesten after Uhtred goes north then to seek revenge against Kjartan and Sven, which is where he was headed at the end of Season 1. My guess is that he'd appear in the second half then. I saw that Ragnar rescues Uhtred after he's sold into slavery (already diving into more spoiler territory, ah well) and that Steapa is with him. So it's possible that he'll be introduced then, but just going off of who's been cast for S2, they seem to have at least 15 new characters, I doubt they'd leave both him and Haesten out if they're important to the story. I think putting series on Netflix will help boost viewership compared to BBC America and I just recently found that one of the actors said that S2 would be released in April, so hopefully there's a good chance this show will last.

I am very excited for Finan, Sigefrid, and Erik. Just looked it up and all of them have been cast. The only actor I've heard of that's been cast is Millie Brady who is playing Æthelflæd, the rest are relatively unknown.

He has some awesome moments in the books, but now they have th he luxury to keep him in most of the scenes with Uhtred and expand. I've seen Rypere has been cast too but it seems like Steapa and Clapa are still out

And I remember you saying that Leofric took Steapa's role in S1 when Alfred orders him to fight Uthred to the death before the Danes arrive. Maybe they figured they would give Leofric more screentime before he was killed off. I could see Brida or Finan taking some of Steapa's role if he doesn't end up being cast.

Steapa fills a very specific role connected to Alfred though that Brida or Finan can't really take over. Steapa is the conduit that connects Uhtred and Alfred's household troops, so that's why I'm left wondering how the second half of the season can go. Ragnar can do Steapa's job from book 3, but he's crucial to the strategic element of book 4. So we'll see I guess
