^ mandzipop , they are beyond beautiful! I am wowed. Thank you. I've got more, but my laptop is screaming at me to not load anything more up to photobucket tonight or it will explode. Yes I know, using photobucket. It is just the easiest one to use.

Love all the photos mandzipop - you have a real eye for detail and that lovely house is just beautiful. I really want to visit the UK someday (maybe when I retire) and be a tourist to places like that! I would love to do a massive castle tour!

I really want to visit the UK someday (maybe when I retire) and be a tourist to places like that! I would love to do a massive castle tour! Thank you moiaf EnvieI've been to Chatsworth today. I felt up to it. I'm exhausted now as it is very hilly with no footpath. I took 394 pics and I've binned 235. I need to sort out the cropping and editing and then uploading to photobucket (the latter being the lengthiest bit). I need to sleep and eat first. But that place I went to yesterday is just a tiny little cottage compared to Chatsworth. Hopefully I should be able to post some later tonight.

Beautiful pictures!
The first insect is actually a fly...a hoverfly, Epistrophe melanostoma, to be exact. They resemble bees to protect themselves from predators (look at his eyes....those are fly eyes)
Yes, I fill in for our resident Entomologist when he's away from the community and am capable of pinning a name on a large percentage of insects around the world. This hoverfly is native to Europe and the UK.

mandzipop, you have a great eye...I'll let you know when our annual photo contests open (at the site where I work) ...We have a Pixel County Fair in August with categories for barns, livestock, vegetables and quilts and a general Photo Contest in Octber (that usually gains between 2000 and 3000 entries world wide...2 of last year's category winners were in the UK. Our Best of Show was from Canada. I'd crop the one with the deer to include the group that are bunched together and make it about an 8x10 format....I think it has a chance to place high in the wildlife category.

Very nice pictures and thank you for sharing! =o)
I think about uploading some of my own. I don't have a very good camera though. It's just my mobile's camera but I'm actually quite proud of some pics.

Wow, you learn something new every day. It looked too big to be a hoverfly. I thought it was odd, I could tell it wasn't a wasp so I assumed it was a honey bee. Although we don't get honey bees near where I live very often. It is usually bumble bees. Not sure how it would look cropped. I don't use Lightroom, just the Canon edit suite that came with the camera (Lightroom looks too complicated) and I've had to really brighten it up. I had it on the correct settings until the sun went in and all of the ones that came out were the ones when the sun went in. So I've had to brighten in a bit. My concern is that when cropped there would be a lot of noise. King Tyrion I I wouldn't worry about the equipment. My other half is significantly better than me and he only uses his iPhone. The main difference is there are less settings and the zoom function isn't as good (depending on the lens you have). Phones to have advantages that they can get into very tiny spaces and awkward positions. So please show them. A professional photographer friend of mine said photography is 70% luck, 5% equipment and 25% skill.

moiaf: Later. ;o) It's past midnight over here. And I need to get them from a portable hd. Is photobucket alright? As a hoster? mandzipop : I know. =o) I bought a 12 megapixels digicam lately for my bike trips. Haven't used it so far but I will. I once wanted to buy the Canon 500. It was an analogue camera back in its day, but then I didn't have the money for it. I'm interested in photography since I was small. My parents own a decent camera and they have this one.

My concern is that when cropped there would be a lot of noise. What are the pixel dimensions of the original? I can tell you if it will work...simple cropping isn't a big deal,

It was an analogue camera back in its day, but then I didn't have the money for it. I'm interested in photography since I was small. My parents own a decent camera and they have this one. Photobucket is slow. That is my main gripe. However if you don't have an edit suite it does come with a basic one, and it is free. So other than the speed it is great. I was the same. I got my first camera when I was in my teens and I've always tried to get a good one every time I've upgraded. This one has lasted me since 2011. I got a DSLR because I wanted something with the function to help me take F1 pictures as I was going to the Belgian GP. I was going to get a bridge camera but at the time they were still £300+, and the camera I got was on offer at £400 including a lens. I knew it would be more versatile. I'd love a 10-18mm wide angled lens to get closer up to the bugs. However I need to replace my 18-55mm lens as I discovered a scratch on it. Which digicam did you get? It should come with a basic editing suite. What is your preferred subject matter?
