My concern is that when cropped there would be a lot of noise. What are the pixel dimensions of the original? I can tell you if it will work...simple cropping isn't a big deal, It was 4272 x 2848

I was the same. I got my first camera when I was in my teens and I've always tried to get a good one every time I've upgraded. This one has lasted me since 2011. I got a DSLR because I wanted something with the function to help me take F1 pictures as I was going to the Belgian GP. I was going to get a bridge camera but at the time they were still £300+, and the camera I got was on offer at £400 including a lens. I knew it would be more versatile. I'd love a 10-18mm wide angled lens to get closer up to the bugs. However I need to replace my 18-55mm lens as I discovered a scratch on it. Which digicam did you get? It should come with a basic editing suite. What is your preferred subject matter? Which hoster would you recommend then? There are a couple out there and I want one that is reliable and safe. Probably I should look for an editing suite that lets me fix a watermark on the pics. I'm a bit concerned about IP you know. And since I'm also a hobby writer I can tell about the nuisance when something gets "stolen". I have a Rollei compact line 203 now. It was quite cheap because I got it second hand. It's also quite small but very handy. My preferred subject matter. I guess I have an eye for unique things - nature, buildings, etc. But I also like taking pictures of persons.

It's also quite small but very handy. My preferred subject matter. I guess I have an eye for unique things - nature, buildings, etc. But I also like taking pictures of persons. Photobucket is fine, it just takes about 55 minutes to upload the pictures to the internet. I don't use Photoshop/Lightroom because it looks complicated, but anyone who is more technically savvy than me (not hard) would be ok. I'd love to be able to try with Lightroom but it is an expensive layout. However, looking at the Rollei website, it appears they have their own. They work in partnership with Corel who do what looks like their own version of Lightroom (at half the price). Worth considering once you have gotten used to using one. Editing is good fun, but it can make the eyes sore after a couple of hundred pictures. I like looking at pics of buildings. I'm not brilliant with taking pics of people. I can count on one hand my good pictures of people (except my nephew but that is because he is 2 and still very cute). But you can get some really interesting people pictures. There is one that I'm really proud of, I'll see if I can find it. Editing tip, always make sure you keep the original and all edited ones are copies.

Of course, I shall keep the original. ;o)
And for other purposes I use GIMP. It's quite like Photoshop but it's free.
Thanks again! =o)
I will go and do the weekly shopping soon so I'm gonna upload later.

These are my only (non nephew) decent human pictures that I've manged. I don't know any of these people, they were just random people I saw in the park on a glorious hot summers day.

That's a nice big file, you won't lose anything by cropping. You can even crop further if you like...it is huge. The good thing about our photo uploads is that you don't have to host them somewhere to use them...you can upload directly from your computer.

That's one of my pics. Taken with a 5 MB mobile phone (BlackBerry 9860, Pod's predecessor.).

This is not a work of mine, but it's a piece of glass art I saw earlier this week that absolutely floored me. It's by Richard Ritter (US, 1940 - ) and is on display in the Foundation for the Carolinas in Charlotte, NC, on loan by Sonia and Isaac Luski. They are grand enough to hatch dragons, yes?
