That was even better than International Assassin, as far as I'm concerned. Less of a mindfuck but everything just made sense, it was beautiful.

I can't imagine what the finale will be next week. I just watched The Most Powerful Man in the World, and for some reason I thought it was the last one. So when the screen went to all white, with the nuclear explosion, I thought that was the end. Then when there was more, ending with Kevin and his dad sitting on the roof and the song "Don't you know it's the end of the world? It ended when I lost your love." playing, I thought that was the end. So glad to discover at the end that the finale isn't until next week.

Bittersweet is the best way I can describe that finale. I'm glad Kevin and Nora found eachother again after all those years, but the fact that they were apart so long, and that Nora didn't feel she belonged with her kids anymore was really sad. I did love Nora's smile at the end (it reminded me of the final scene of Magnolia), and I kind of wish they had ended on it. I knew it would be the birds as soon as it panned outside the house. It worked though. I'll take one more opportunity to gush about Carrie Coon, JFC what a performance she gave in this show. Best actress I've seen on TV since Edie Falco on The Sopranos. I'm really going to miss this show.

I'm really going to miss this show. I assume it was probably 20-30 years later, but yeah I also like the decision to have the series finale focus on Nora and her journey. The character centric episodes seem to be some of the best, if I'm thinking back to Season 1, Nora's episode was also one of my favorites. She was by far my favorite character and just the amount of depth and emotion that Carrie Coon has added to her throughout the entire show is incredible. I was reading up on the writer's decision concerning Laurie because I wasn't expecting her to be alive. They left her ending a bit ambiguous. Besides the phone call from Jill, I think it was also seeing Nora that changed her mind.

Well at least the doves came back. But I don't know how to feel about s3 overall. I still feel it could've just ended with s2 and I'd like the show a lot more than I do now. But yeah Carrie Coon was great.

I also think that Margaret Qualley was incredibly underused this time around.

I also think that Margaret Qualley was incredibly underused this time around. As in she was only in one scene and then we heard her voice in another. Same with his son. He wasn't around much at all either. So yeah. A lot of storylines from s1 were gone here. The GR the most obvious among them. I was hoping they'd justify that somehow but looks like they swept it away. I was glad to hear they'd got another season. But really all things considered the s2 finale felt like a better ending to me than this.

I don't think she expected that time would work the same where they were though. It would be even sadder to me if she was never gone and her and Kevin were still apart all that time. That's a good read btw thanks for the link.

I don't know what to say, this was easily the best season for me. They didn't need to revisit the Guilty Remnant, and I didn't care enough about Tom or Jill for them to spend much more time with them. The Murphys were under-serviced for sure, that would be my only criticism.
I'm incredibly happy with how they left it. I think 'sticking the landing' in general is given far too much importance, especially when everything that came before it is so great. But making it this understated, ambiguous conversation between the two most important characters, and giving those characters some measure of relief, is exactly what I was hoping for. At first I kind of wished they'd shown some of what Nora purported to see on the other side rather than have it be a monologue, but that would't have been as ambiguous. And ambiguity in this show is everything.
It wasn't the best episode of the show, or even the season, but I found it a touching, satisfying end.

Also, thinking about it, having this properly small scale finale is they could have done after last week. Last week was the fucking apocalypse in Kevin's mind. You have to keep it intimate and human after that shit. Kind of like the Breaking Bad double finale, only purposefully less neat.
