Episode three of this season really gives us a glimpse of the downward spiral to come for so many of our favorite characters. Where episode 2 was fast paced and mostly upbeat, this episode slowed down to give us darker hints of things to come with some awesomely tense and foreboding pairings: 1. Margaery and the "Queen Mother" ... *listen carefully you can probably hear Cersei's teeth grinding* 2. Sansa Stark and the Boltons ... that ever so subtle pause that went on a (perfect) second too long... 3. Brienne and Podrick get serious. Brienne tells the tale of her tormented youth and losing Renly: 4. Speaking of bullying ... in Braavos, Arya begins down the looong road of antagonism from The Waif. Fortunately we all know how that will end... "Ow! CUNT!" 5. Oh and here's one of those fantastic parallels I love so much ... Jon Snow executes Janos Slynt one episode after Daenerys executes Mossador. Jon won this one though... Dany's decision backfired. ***In both cases they begged Jon/Dany for MERCY. *chills*6. Cersei and The High Sparrow meet for the first time. Cersei steps right into his trap with open arms ... oh this is so delicious to rewatch! 7. Tyrion and Jorah start their adventure together on rather bad terms in Volantis ... Oh so many dark and deliciously foreshadowing hints of what's to come. I love these moments in our re-watches!

I feel like I need to praise Lena after every single episode, she is such a great Cersei and does an amazing job! And it really is good to rewatch the rise of the Sparrow and his army. And Tommen starting to separate from his mother. Kings landing is on point. It's nice to watch Brienne and Podrick's relationship grow and change, her starting to open up and respect Pod. Giving me all the feels. Both Braavos and Winterfell are painful to watch, both Stark girls are in over their heads and heading for trouble. Though we know now that they come out winning I do wish their roads could have been a little easier. But I've sort of missed the Boltons What wonderful characters and actors. And what a great last scene for the episode. It was exciting the first time when things were still somewhat unsure.

Though we know now that they come out winning I do wish their roads could have been a little easier. But I've sort of missed the Boltons What wonderful characters and actors. Yes it's tough to see both Arya and Sansa meeting the antagonists who will pull them into a painful journey in the same episode but also really cool because we know now they both survive and grow stronger because of this painful journey. It gives me renewed anticipation for their stories in Season 7, not just the "main heroes" Jon and Dany and their respective teams. The Stark sisters have come so far from Season 1 and that ill-fated journey to King's Landing that would change both their lives forever. This story is as much about them in the center as it is the "Rulers" vying for the throne. I love seeing Arya's feisty fury already showing against the Waif and a glimpse of that steely cold resolve Sansa will use to survive her ordeal against the Boltons too. Each of them has a 'style' that serves them well in survival.

This episode is one of my favorite "slow" episodes. I really liked scenes in the North. It was fascinating to watch Sansa and LF with the Boltons. Welcome home lady Stark. The North remembers still gives me chills.
I liked Tyrion scenes in Volantis. Perfect example what a good adaptation should be. Introduction of High Sparrow was great as well.
And every scene with Cersei in this episode.
Scenes at the Wall and Braavos were solid.

The Boltons, I'd forgotten how much I disliked them. When they first wrote Sansa into the FArya line, I confess I was indignant. I didn't think she was a strong enough character to carry it off. "I will starve myself.." wasn't exactly the voice of a girl ready to face Ramsey Bolton. Littlefinger's speech about "You've been running all your life. There is no justice in this world unless you make it.", is a good start.
Pod and Brienne are a great team. I've really enjoyed their interactions through the seasons, and I adore the story about her and Renly and the 'nasty little shits.'
Cersei this entire season really hits every note.

I agree this was one of the better 'dialogue' heavy episodes that satisfyingly sets up so much drama to come in this season. Lena has been nailing it with Cersei from day one but she gets particularly strong this season and of course hitting the apex of her arc next in Season 6 too. I never expected her to go so far in the show but I am starting to suspect she will in the books as well. She's definitely a survivor and such a well played character.

Pod and Brienne are a great team. I've really enjoyed their interactions through the seasons, and I adore the story about her and Renly and the 'nasty little shits.' This episode was one of their best. Brienne realizes she's been mistreating Podrick the whole journey and still he stays by her side loyally which of course makes her feel bad since she has been the one in his shoes before too. They have found some common ground and friendship. Podrick really is a great character. The best part of this scene between them was Pod stammering over the obvious question he couldn't ask Brienne:

There's no justice in the world- not unless we make it is also one of the best lines in the show. I find it so powerful and inspiring. Cynical and hopeful at the same time. I remember after S4 when people said that S5 will be Cersei's season. And it was in a way. But then S6 was also Cersei's season in a way. And judging by the leaks S7 will also be Cersei's season. She was always a great and interesting character but I think that she really came into her own after Joffrey's and Tywin's deaths. There is always something fresh and new from her. I never felt that she was overused or that she lived more than she should.

While I sometimes wish Jamie would go ahead and throttle her (my vote for valonqar) she always makes KL an interesting story.

This is one of my favorite episodes, I know people complain because Jon didn't ask for the block, but they kept my favorite part of the execution in the show, when Stannis nods to Jon, I love that moment. A solid episode all around, I don't consider it a slow episode because of all of the great character development.

It's hard for me to re-watch the scene where LF "sells" his plan about marrying a Bolton to Sansa because it is so ridiculously stupid. I can't get over it. lol

day dreamer , I love the 'nope' gif! [But, then, she did it anyway, grrrr] dje , Yes! The Stannis 'nod moment' is one of my all-time favorites, in show and books. I despise Cersei in the books, but Lena gives her an air that is impossible to capture in mere words. While I sometimes wish Jamie would go ahead and throttle her (my vote for valonqar) she always makes KL an interesting story. Lady Sansa's Direwolf , I agree! I can't believe how Lena has 'made me' really enjoy Cersei. In the books, though, she's such a sick-o, absolutely decompensating towards the end. In tv series, she's cold, calculating, but fascinating, and not screaming paranoid schizophrenia as she completely loses touch with reality.
nikma , "The North Remembers" is one of my favorite moments, too. Have to admit, though, that I couldn't watch that scene in the rewatch without thinking of her flayed body hung up before it was all over with. I grieve!
Envie ! Not only did I not connect Dany's execution scene last episode with Jon's this one, I never would have gotten that "look them in the eye" aspect - that makes all the difference in the world. Ah, Ned. I have always loved Stannis's lines to Jon, though: "You're as stubborn as your father - and as honorable . . . I didn't mean it as a compliment. Honor is what got your father killed." Another thing you said that I'd never quite gotten before - have always loved the Brienne and Pod moment, with Brienne becoming 'real', but I never connected that in telling that story she realized that was how she'd been treating Pod.
One moment, one brief moment, I had empathy for Janos Slynt - at the very end, when he said, "I'm afraid. I've always been afraid." Maybe the only time in his life he ever spoke the truth.
One of the reasons I love this episode is because it is here that Theon starts to shine. Hiding from Sansa because he didn't want her to see him as he is now, his reaction in the dining hall when Ramsey boasts about flaying Cerwyn.
And Arya hides the sword! Yay!
