We've been discussing bits and pieces of the endgame/S8 in different threads, so I thought I'd create a proper thread for that. I know it is still incredibly early for that, but we know quite a lot about S7, so I think a S8 speculation thread makes sense.
How do you envision the endgame?
I wanna open the discussion with a few thoughts on Arya. What could be a satisfying ending for Arya? I, for one, thought it was quite interesting that the show included that little dialogue about Arya being curious about sailing west of Westeros. I think that would be a great ending for the character: Arya going on another adventure, but this time she does it out of curiosity and happiness. I don't think it would need to be permanent either, but a goodbye scene with her family in the final episode would surely be a tearjerker (Hey Frodo!).
But what could her role be during the Long Night? I think her training still needs to pay off. But I don't see Arya as a soldier in an army. I think she is much more like an assassin. She is skinny and small and can easily hide. This is entirely speculative but I've always wondered if she is the one to kill the Night King. I kinda doubt we will ever see a big one-on-one battle between the Night King and Jon. That's why I think taking him out would be a perfect job for a stealthy assassin like Arya. It could be GoT's very own "Eowyn killing the Witch-King"-moment.
Thematically, it would tie up a lot of loose ends nicely too. 1. As I said, her training would come to fruition. 2. I think Arya and death is a theme that still needs to have some kind of closure. She needs to overcome that part of her life. Having Arya kill death personified would be a cool way for the show to tell that story.
Regarding the endgame, what are your thoughts on Arya? Or the other characters?
