Just watched. So good.
Stannis's last stand was equal parts glorious and tragic. I like how he is faced with the realization that Melisandre was wrong, and all the plotting and sacrifices and blood magic were for nothing. He's defeated before Brienne even shows up. She avenges Renly, but gives Stannis salvation.
Sansa finally shows some agency and breaks out of her chambers. Since this is TV, Brienne doesn't notice the candle, though. But upon being faced with disfigurement from Myranda, Sansa forces herself to stay strong. I still cheer when Theon throws that crazy bitch over the railing.
Dorne was....fine, I guess. I gotta say I like how crafty Ellaria is, if nothing else. Jaime and Myrcella was touching, in a gross sort of way. But then, since this is GoT, she falls dead. I loved the transition from Myrcella falling to Ellaria watching the ship in the distance. The Sand Snakes music is glorious, I'll give them that. I think the poison kiss is a little comicbook-y, but oh well, this is a show about dragons.
Walk of Shame is still the standout scene. After an unknown time locked away in the dungeons, Cersei confesses to the High Sparrow. Sorta. I like how even though the HS is in complete power in this scene, Cersei is still playing him. It's a very interesting dynamic. The haircutting scene is very foreboding, the music is good, and then they lead her out to face the people. Not much else can be said about the actual walk. I like how it just spirals out of control. It starts out kind of solemn and almost respectful of her, but devolved into basically a riot with the people struggling to get closer to her, to scream and spit and try to touch her. When she finally limps through the gate, Kevan and Pycelle stare at her like she's nothing, Pycelle even looks amused. But Qyburn comes to her, and at the peak of her suffering, gives her a gift, a giant gift who was sworn to kill her enemies.
They got my hopes up with the Benjen mention. I knew what was coming, but still, when I first watched it, I was still hoping that wasn't just a ruse. But it was, and the mutineers slay their own commander in cold blood. The music here still gives me goosebumps, as Jon looks pleadingly up at Olly, before collapsing to bleed in the snow.
I will admit this episode didn't get as much of a rise out of me after seeing season six, simply because I know what happens afterwards. Jon's death didn't upset me because I know he's coming back. The Walk of Shame didn't affect me as much because I know she kills all those motherfuckers lol. Dorne was interesting, bc now I view it through a different lens, as that is later revealed to only be step one of Ellaria's plan.
Damn I wrote a lot. Sorry haha.

I thought that this was a solid finale. Give Stannis credit, he fights until the bitter end. But, we know he isn't the Prince who was promised. Reek finally becomes Theon, was looking forward to that scene all season. Arya begins the final phase of her training without her sight. I thought it was heartbreaking when Jaime confides in Myrcella, only to have her die in his arms, and of course, For the Watch, FU Ollie, lol. Cersei's walk of atonement was powerful, I really felt bad for her.

A solid finale, good episode. The moment Shireen was burnt I knew Stannis was doomed. There was no hope for him and I like to think he knew it too but it was too late to turn back, everything he had was gone. Even the red witch. I don't like his final scene but I do like that Brienne got her revenge. Jon and Sam talking is a beautiful scene, reflects on their history and their friendship. I love their faces when Sam suggests that Jon goes to Edd for advice while he's south And of course the bro-moment when Jon realises that Sam and Gilly did the thing Reek! Your Theon is showing.. Oooohh, there goes Myranda! Finally. Dany's boys pining after her are hilarious Continued with Tyrion and Varys, such an enjoyable scene with those two even though nothing really happens. Cersei's walk is of course a powerfull and beautiful scene. I love how The rains of Castamere subtly plays in the background when her hair is being cut. And I love how the walk starts and it's all like "Well, this isn't so bad, I'll just walk and that's it.." and then the crowd starts to shout at her and throw stuff and it eventually gets to her even though she plays it cool for so long. And then the music comes back on as she cries and walks in to the red keep.

Fantastic Season Finale. ... That moment the soldier tells Stannis half the men deserted before dawn ... the look on Mel's face. "Speak up, can't be worse than mutiny..." actually yes, Stannis, it can. Selyse killed herself. Stannis knows he's lost at this point for sure. But he gets another shock ... Melisandre deserts him. ~~~ "Here's to us then. Long may they sneer." Jon and Sam bro moment. Sam asking to go to the citadel. "I'll come back." says Sam... "To your return." says Jon. "To my return" ... Sam!!
~~~ The battle ... Last Stand of Stannis Baratheon was well done. The men know they're marching to their death. There's so few of them and not even horses. Sansa uses her corkscrew to unlock her door and try to get to the tower with a candle. No one seems concerned about her being out either as they are preparing for battle. (Pod sees Stannis and runs to tell Brienne. Brinne makes the decision to leave just (of course) as Sansa gets the candle lit in the tower. ugh.) "There's not going to be a siege, your grace..." "We've got no chance!" cries some random scared soldier... the resigned look on Stannis' face as he draws his sword more to bolster his men's last stand it seems. Sansa realizes in the first minutes that Stannis is going to lose, watching from the tower. Stannis still, even injured, fights off two men in the forest of dying men. His 'growling' is a great moment. Brienne, him squinting at her. "You murdered him? With Blood Magic?" and him admitting it. Her doing the formal execution was good. "Go on, do your duty" as his last words were so perfectly Stannis. ~~~ Ramsay out in the battlefield was good as it lets us know Sansa has a chance ... if ever so brief "Let's head back, my wife must be lonely." I'm glad they chose to have her confront Myranda. "If I'm going to die, let it happen while there's still some of me left." Reek throwing that little b*tch over the side (and becoming Theon again) was great. Then helping Sansa escape... I'm so glad they did it this way. Arya taking out Trant was great too... her sneaking the little girl's face back to the hall of faces and getting caught was perfect. "A girl stole from the Many Faced God" This scene is still confusing... her pulling off all the faces. "To someone the faces are as good as poison" and her going blind to begin the most important phase of her training I think. ~~~ Ellaria's kiss of death to Myrcella on the docks. It's obviously a little too long. And then, the "Bad pussy" line to Bronn, which of course, will spawn a million even worse memes. "We don't choose whom we love" from Jaime to Myrcella was good. I'm glad she already knew before he told her. "I think a part of me always knew." (I'm glad you're my Father) .... so glad she got to tell him this before she died! For that brief moment he gets to be her Father fully and hold her. But it's way too brief... ugh her death is sad. ~~~ The guys hanging out in the pyramid throne room was a great (and funny) scene too. I like Daario's speech and telling him staying in Meereen is best for Tyrion to lead and having Grey Worm and Missandei in charge with him. Leaving Daario and Jorah to go after Dany. I like Varys showing up at this point to assist Tyrion - perfect timing and these two are great together. ~~~ The lands where Drogon takes Dany are so beautiful. Drogon dumping Dany on her ass was so awesome. he's clearly not going anywhere LOL. I love the spiral of horses (symbolism) at the end surrounding Dany... the circle of life and death continues onward and inward ...( from the book: "To go forward you must go back...")
~~~ Cersei's walk of shame is good and I felt they did a great job with it despite some flak it got for the CGI/body double thing. Everyone's a critic! Meeting Ser Gregor was great, Cersei's relief and willingly going into his arms shows some changes are going to happen soon, a great bit of foreshadowing here. ~~~ Davos back at the wall trying to convince Jon Snow and Melisandre returning .... great acting here, Davos trying to ask about Shireen and Mel remaining silent, looking disheveled and defeated. First time we've ever seen her that way. ~~~ The betrayal of Jon Snow is a powerful moment every time. "Traitor" ... always makes my heart drop as I know what's coming... but I love watching reaction videos to this powerful finale ending. There was a part of me at this time originally who wondered if maybe all our years of absolute surety Jon would be resurrected were wrong. Just for a brief moment. Then I'm like "nah, it's gonna happen, just wait til' Season 6!!" haha.

Stannis's last stand was equal parts glorious and tragic. . . She avenges Renly, but gives Stannis salvation. The moment Shireen was burnt I knew Stannis was doomed. There was no hope for him and I like to think he knew it too but it was too late to turn back, everything he had was gone. Even the red witch. "There's not going to be a siege, your grace..." I don't remember being nearly as impressed with the Stannis scenes last episode and [especially] this one when I first watched 2 years ago. But this time, I'm struck by how beautifully, how tragically perfectly they unfold, with all the elements of a Greek tragedy. Stephen's acting is magnificent - while Stannis receives figurative blow after blow, beginning with 1/2 the men and all the horses gone, then Selyse, then "the Lady Melisandre" seen riding out of camp, then the onslaught of Ramsey's army, then the last two fresh, strong Bolton soldiers, and then Brienne. He was able to somehow mirror each successive blow and still remain "Stannis". I so agree with TheMadQueen that Brienne gave Stannis salvation. And I love that Brienne, the oh so full of honor and loyalty Brienne, was able to finally follow through on her vow to avenge Renly. At the end, when Melisandre returned to Castle Black - Jon asked about Stannis, while Davos asked about Shireen. I think Davos had already given up on Stannis, realized when he left for CB that he was a lost cause. Another bit of foreshadowing with the Jon/Sam moment regarding Hardhome, that the dragon glass wouldn't matter "unless we had a mountain of it." Dragonstone! Sam. Sam. His tears at the thought of failing Gilly. I think I often overlook the superb acting of John Bradley-West in the face of such stunning acting by the more major actors. That look from the top of the Wall of WF down to the snow below - I'd forgotten how that made my stomach plummet, and then the jump! The holding hands, the "Theon's back and Sansa's in her own again" moment, so triumphant. The Arya/Meryn Trant scene - so glad she does get to be the one to cross him off her list, that she stages and executes it so beautifully, yet so truly shocked by the sheer brutality with which she is able to carry it out. [Lots of while watching it]. What a striking portrait of all this little girl has gone through since she sat in the hall of WF and spooned food over the table onto Sansa. "A girl stole from the Many Faced God" This scene is still confusing... her pulling off all the faces. "To someone the faces are as good as poison" and her going blind to begin the most important phase of her training I think. Yes! Still confusing - and I noticed this time something I'd missed before, when Jaquen speaks to her from behind while she's still looking at him dead on the floor in front of her, and she turns around -- he's standing there in the waif's outfit, she's him?!?! he's her?!?! How did I not notice that before? Yes, they're no one, but ... And the refrain, "Only death can pay for life." Hmmm...to be continued S6. Haven't thought of Daario especially 'shining' in a scene, but I think he really does in this episode as he takes charge and assigns roles, and for his line that Greyworm is "the toughest man with no balls I've ever seen." The Dothraki Sea is gorgeous! Loved the Dragon/Dany interaction and really, really loved getting to see up close what Dragon looks like. The Walk of Atonement, so beautifully done. The fact of Jon's assassination was established so long ago, I guess, and we know how that's resolved, that the saddest part that stood out for me this time is the hope that leapt up in Jon when he thought that his Uncle Benjen was about be found. And finally, that music at the end - the cello can actually weep.

I so agree with TheMadQueen that Brienne gave Stannis salvation. And I love that Brienne, the oh so full of honor and loyalty Brienne, was able to finally follow through on her vow to avenge Renly. The thing I enjoyed about Brienne's formal 'execution' was that look she gave him in the end when he said "Go on, do your duty." Just before she raises her sword, she seems to realize this isn't the victorious revenge she thought she was going to get on Stannis. This is a broken man who has accepted his fate and is ready to die. I imagine Brienne thought she'd get to fight him toe to toe and this puts in perspective how in the end, giving death isn't really a great thing even to one's enemy (unless you're a psychopath like Ramsay).

They talk about how at this point Stannis is ready to be done with it and Brienne taking him out is a welcome relief to his failures. They also talk about how Brienne is expecting a monster and finds just a broken man ready to die:
