Saddest 10 of the Series.
The episode runs the full emotional spectrum, so by the time the credits roll (soundlessly as is deserved) I felt exhausted.
I have a question about the dragonglass in the heart thing, which I will reserve until we reach episode 10, otherwise great reveal. Too bad they didn't tell Bran if there were any other little secrets he needed to know.
Poor Theon. His is the hardest arc to watch sometimes. Just when he gets going, here come Euron to remind him of his place. (BTW - it looks like in the new season, Euron gets a haircut, and I'm not a fan. Just wondering if anyone else noticed.)
Five more to go, and each of them bigger than the one before.

10. How the hell did they manage to make Hodor's death sadder than Ned's, or Cat's, or any of the other characters we loved? It was the first time the show every truly upset me.

I didn't think they could pull off a death that made me feel more helpless and shaken than when poor Shireen was burned to death but Hodor topped it. I think it was the profound realization that Hodor had lived with this knowledge his whole life and still served Bran (and the Starks) faithfully to the very last minute. He was an amazing hero.

I've always felt a bit emotionally detached from this episode. Hodor's death was sad, yes, but it didn't overwhelm me. There are several deaths that had a much bigger impact on me (Ned, Cat, Shireen...). The RW in particular is still the scene that upsets me the most. Nothing comes even remotely close to the way Michelle played Cat's last moments. At least Hodor's death was meaningful, because he was able to save his friends. The other deaths I mentioned were in vain and served no purpose. The desperation was almost palpable during 309 and 509. That tends to upset me more. Furthermore, I really disliked the Kingsmoot, which is a big part of the episode (I think approximately 10 minutes?). That's why I have to take off a few points. It's a 8.5, but I'll round it to a 9.

I didn't dislike it, but I sure didn't see very many Ironborn there for the election. Not only do the Iron Isle not have trees, apparently they don't have people either. But I could forgive it with the rest of the episode being so strong. For a midpoint, it stands up well.

I'll admit I disliked the kingsmoot the first go 'round because I was expecting something much darker and brutal from Euron after he killed his brother. Instead they wrote him like a boasting frat-boy. Maybe it was the cock-grabbing and declaring he'll give it to Dany that turned me off back then ... but second time around this year I enjoyed it more for whatever reason. Maybe I'm just over Euron before he's even made a dent in the story for Season 7?

Yes, Hodor's death was meaningful, but he was also a true innocent. He wasn't involved in wars, or politics, revenge, etc. The poor kid had his entire life taken away to do one thing. It's beyond tragic. At least Cat, Ned, and Robb were all happy for a time. Shireen's was pretty brutal as well. She didn't exactly have a great life before being burned. Her only friend was a insane fool, and Ser Davos, and her parents were pretty terrible. But for whatever reason Shireen's just didn't hit me as hard as Hodor's though.

10. How the hell did they manage to make Hodor's death sadder than Ned's, or Cat's, or any of the other characters we loved? It was the first time the show every truly upset me. The only time I've ever stopped watching GOT was after this episode, and I thought that could never possibly happen. I couldn't shake the sadness for days, and none of the other deaths in the books/tv series have impacted me quite that way. Summer's death was also a big part of my reaction to the episode. I decided that whatever happened from here on out, I wanted to find out about it directly from George, in the book. I caved three weeks later, though, and went back to watching - glad now that I did because I'm afraid we might not ever get the rest of the books. Envie , I think you nailed it when you said I loved when Osha would refer to him as a "gentle giant". Definitely a 10.
