As you can tell from my avatar, I'm all about the combined Stark and Targaryen houses in alliance. I've been a little more hesitant about a Jon/Dany romance over the years, but some of you here (moiaf and nic mostly) have warmed me up to the idea haha. I think I had always hoped Jon would remain the Ice/North half of the story while Daenerys/Fire ruled the southern half - each in their own rights and each with their own subjects and houses pledged to them. I resisted them being in love or marrying because it felt more contrived and fairytale-like I guess. It's not even about the Aunt/Nephew relationship as we've grown used to the incest of Targaryens (and one set of Lannister twins ) over the years. But now that I read the thoughts and ideas of you all, who I respect, I can see how it would be really difficult for either Jon or Daenerys to find suitable partners if that's what's required to join the two forces into one. Maybe they won't need to do that, and maybe the story actually ends before they ever get to that point, who knows. There's no one else that's a 'major player' at this point left alive for either of them to marry. Tristane was the only one for the Martells and he's dead and they didn't write in other sons for the Tyrells either. Theon's out for the Greyjoys (poor guy) and Euron most likely isn't going to go over so well with Dany now that Yara's revealed the truth about him. Who else could Dany possibly marry? As for Jon, it's even less likely he'd find a suitable partner. Too bad little Lyanna Mormont is too young because damn she'd make a fine match haha. I highly doubt Yara Greyjoy would be a fit even above and beyond her liking girls more than boys. Political marriages don't need to take preference into account as we well know. The show has most likely deliberately left out a lot of the other Houses so as to make it appear smaller and more compacted for alliances and characters but that also means far less characters in suitable noble houses for them to marry. I'm sure in the books there are plenty of great houses that could marry in ... my favorite being the Velaryons. I always had a secret hope Aurane Waters would take the fleet of ships he stole from Cersei over and win Dany's favor and hand that way - reuniting the Velaryons and Targaryens once again. But they've left him out of the show, sadly. So I will concede there's a really good chance Jon and Dany are destined to get together at this point.

My son sent me this image via text and I cannot seem to find it anywhere on the internet though I think he may have found it on Instagram since that's where he spends more time browsing than anywhere.

The editing is interesting. Would have been better using different scenes. Great idea, editing execution good, scene choices to create continuity poor.

I was giving some thought to show characters that could be possible "kings" to Dany's "queen" if not Jon Snow, and the only other "suitable" eligible bachelor I could come up with was Jaime Lannister.

I think this is where there's a good chance the book and the show are going to completely deviate. Harington and Clarke have CRAZY good chemistry - like burn off the screen chemistry. It would be crazy not to put them together in some way. The incesty thing is muted to me at this point - I think the books and show have done what they need to do to get us used to this idea with Jaime & Cersei as well as Targaryen history)- almost foreshadowing their inevitable union. I personally would love to see this on screen. But in the books? I'm not as quick to jump on the bandwagon. I need to read WOW first and then will decide....tap tap tap....lol

To me there are way too many book parallels and foreshadowing for their not to be anything. Whether it's a long lasting thing, I have no idea. But I'm pretty sure it's going to happen in both. I can't wait though to see it on screen. Should be fun.

It seems almost overly obvious that's probably the direction it's going. I think so many people are against it (I'll admit my hesitancy) because of that obviousness. They love GRRM's twists and turns in the plot, so to have such an obvious pairing seems wrong. But really, we secretly deep down inside hope for a happy ending so of course we're looking for Dany and Jon to be the power couple in that goal. But we should never let down our guard because he DOES like twists and turns so I'm terrified to actually ship them, for certain something awful will happen if they do get together!

I sometimes wonder if GRRM has created his own trope - the "anti-trope" so to anti-trope himself, he'd put them together in the end. Just like you said, Envie - so many of his fans at this point assume he WON'T go the typical route, which kinda makes it the "typical" route for him, right? Ouch...my head hurts....lol

Get us worked up and terrified as beloved characters are picked off one by one until the very end when the heroes get a happy ending anyways.

I don't care who dies as long as Ghost lives in the end....lol (don't worry, I'm not holding my breath on that one).
I have always considered it likely that Dany and Jon will both die but their child will survive....maybe really take us all for a loop and he/she will born under a red star bleeding? Who knows.....I will hope for the happiest ending GRRM can muster. Hey, LOTR has a bitter sweet ending - and we still get a Aragron/Arwen love story survival out of it....GRRM always has said that's the kind of ending he likes.
