I didn't expect that. I was sure it would be Dance with dragons.

I didn't expect that. I was sure it would be Dance with dragons. There's still several others in development. So we'll probably get that too. That is if the pilots go to series.

I very very happy about this. Finally we will get to see at least one or two full seasons of Westeros deep into Long Night, rather than maybe 3 episodes of the upcoming last season in the current series. At the end of season 7, Wall comes down and WW begin their march southwards. By maybe episode 5 or 6 of season 8, they are defeated

They said it will probably be just one spin off. They had also said there will only be seven seasons of GOT. If the new series starts churning money in good numbers, then anything is possible.

I'm strangely excited about this one!
On the one hand, it could be awful if it's full of just archetypal characters (unlike GoT, which messes around with archetypes all the time).
On the other hand, an entire series about the Long Night, including ancient Starks who were probably into human sacrifice and other unsavory stuff? Sign me up.
I've no idea how you make that palatable to a large audience, though. I'm shocked they didn't go with any Targaryen stuff.

We can finally get a full version of origins of WW and their reasoning for exterminating humans the way GRRM must have intended. GOT simply did not have enough time to flesh out WW and their history.

They had also said there will only be seven seasons of GOT. If the new series starts churning money in good numbers, then anything is possible. They won't do 2 show at the same time. Creating 3 more episodes for GoT is bot the same. It was D and D who wanted to cut down the last two seasons and HBO accepted that. But they wouldn't have all these pilots developed and potentially shot if they weren't considering potentially airing more than one of them. They're being conservative in their estimates because they don't want to over-promise but if they can keep this cash-cow going they surely well. Especially with Westworld's ratings declining. Now that doesn't guarantee that they'll do a bunch of spin-offs or that people will be into them but they'll certainly get as much out of their rights to all things Westerosi as they possibly can. Moreover this show's pilot being given the go-ahead doesn't mean this is the show that they'll go with. It just means it was ready first. So it could be that they don't run it to series despite producing the pilot and they pick something else. Or that they do more than one or that, in the off-chance that none of them are impressive or up-to-snuff with GoT, that they do none at all, though that's quite unlikely. The point is that these are trial balloons and nothing is set in stone till the order is made for one of them to go to series. But they're certainly not saying to Carly Wray and Cogman and Brian Helgeland that the shows they're developing won't be made. Not yet anyways.

Probably the least exciting option they could have gone with for me personally, not really interested in the Age of Heroes. There is probably plenty there to make a good show thouh

I think they could in the future air more than one, but I don't think their intention is to become GoT TV. And if they don't air them all at once, there is a potential for them to have GoT content for the next 10-15 years. After one show is over, I could see another one being made, but all of them at the same time doesn't feel like a wise decison. Why would they want to put them all at once?

In the same vein, why are there a million Marvel movies out each year and a million Marvel TV shows. And DC movies and DC TV shows. And Star Wars movies and coming soon down the line, Star Wars TV shows. It's a cynical move creatively but financially this tendency towards franchises and "shared universes" and all this kind of thing is only going to get more and more common. And HBO wants in. Whether it works or not is a different matter but they're sure going to try it out. The more they keep the brand alive the more they can saturate the market with it.

They have the main show and spin off, because the main show is already very popular and established. If HBO wants 2 or more TV shows at the same time they will have a very hard job to establish them and make people care about them, since everything will be new. GoT airing together with spin-off could work. But 2 or more new shows at the same time won't work.
