Stark and Lannister should not be formed yet, curious to see how Martin rewrites his own history which he often does.Socialite seems weird given it should be about the first men, we shouldn't even have castles yet. Small keeps and ring forts were the norm, the Andels should not have taken over yet. Though their invasion went on for hundreds of year. Kind of why Casterly Rock should not have been depicted as a castle, cause it was built pre Andel, they were living in caves basically, nice caves but caves.
But who knows this place could of looked like Rome 2000 years ago, and gotten leveled. Winterfell was originally a ring fort, then a keep, then another keep, then another keep, then... It's similar to the history of Storms end which was built, destroyed and rebuilt a few times. What destroyed it? Wind God.
Lann Bran Garth Durran Elenei??? And Durran Symeon Star eyes Nissa Azor
Lann could also be cast as a woman. Or maybe a daughter or wife of Lann. Then you have Elenei and Nissa. Durran should be a major cast member.
I wonder if they try the same formula? The Long Night and the Others are coming. 9 years later, they have almost arrived. Just need to milk this a little longer.

There's been a lot of emphasis in the few promotional articles about the history being very different than how people understand it in GoT's time. Which to me points not only to the myths and history we've heard about being either misconstrued or downright false but also to something even bigger. And for the word "socialite" to be at all applicable, yeah, that's going to mean a very different society than we're used to in Westeros. I wonder how much of this is GrrM and how much of this is Goldman?

And for the word "socialite" to be at all applicable, yeah, that's going to mean a very different society than we're used to in Westeros. I wonder how much of this is GrrM and how much of this is Goldman? Martin is usually okay with rewriting history in his series, he leaves it vague for a reason and you are probably right. Not like major events like the long night which we know little about. So it's like there was a long night but what things were like back then is an open mystery, and has a ton of wiggle room. In his own history many places seemed very advanced pre and post long night. Casterly Rock which was built pre long night would be one of the seven wonders in our world. It may be caves but it's amazing caves, it's like a city in a mountain. Storms end was the same, very advanced, and the Wall which is post, again a amazing monument to the time. It may be that the First men became advanced which is why they were not invaded till post long night. They were weak and the Andals came. Bran was some kind of genius. The Andals also rewrote history so you know they tried to spin it there way. We may also get a lot of never before heard of characters. The socialite thing really sticks out, that does not scream Tormund at all. That screams Casterly Rock, The reach, the Vale. Possibly even Valyria. Who knows that may have been around then, or perhaps just someone from Essos. I am super curious about this show as the made up history is something I have followed over time and written about. I just hope it's good. They got plenty of room to mess around and make changes, I have zero problem with that, I don't care if they flip genders on characters either, just make it good. Who knows maybe Watts is Bran. Probably not though she does not have the northern look, but one name I left off is available and she has the right look for that. House Dayne. I know a few people who would love that.

Tall young and lean and plays smart well, that's Bran, I'll eat my hat if that's not Bran. Could be any house really, but I am pretty sure that he will be Bran. Got a bit of a wolf look to him when he lets his hair go. Disclaimer In reguards to eating hats, I don't wear hats so I don't own any. But maybe I eat left over Halloween candy instead.

Looks like they are looking to cast a pair of female twins. History doesn't repeat but it rhymes. Could this be Nissa Nissa? Age 23-29. Could this be the spin on Nissa Nissa, twin name for twins. Nissa is an Essos name, what if they are Dothraki, or Proto Valyrian or perhaps just the name people in Essos gave two first women. Also could very well be nobodies, or minor supporting characters. That really seems a tough challenge to find talented twins for a major role.
Also looking for a Scandinavian actor in his 70's. They are looking for First men or as Winter is coming calls them, the Wildlings before they were Wildlings. That name would be First men folks, glad to see Winter is Coming have read the books, or not.

Nathan Stewart-Jarrett is really fantastic. Haven't seen him in a while either, would be stoked if he got a lead role.

With film set to begin next Feb/March, perhaps the spoiler obsessed will be too preoccupied to focus on spoilers for Thrones

This is sort of interesting. I know Martin was a Vincent price fan, back in the day, in the 1940's there was a movie with Vincent price called the long night. It was a remake of a French film called Dawn is breaking. It's about a love triangle between a a magician and an Everyman character. The every,an named Joe was an orphan, the main love interest Jo Ann, was also an orphan, and it's believed Max who is the magician is her father. Orphans Love triangle and incest. Sounds kind of Martinish. Magician, evil ice wizard. The plots are not the same but I wonder if this is where he got the name he loves to homage influences big and small.

Fantastic news and very interesting looking cast so far. I've been watching for info on the prequel and once GoT Season 8 is done, I will definitely be turning my fangirling to this new series as I'm sure it will be fantastic. Anything set in GRRM's world has my vote!

Anything set in GRRM's world has my vote! In the brief synopsis, it also mentions "the mysteries of the east" so I think with the more diverse cast, the Canary Islands could potentially be used for the Summer Isles and parts of Essos. Also since the legend of Azor Ahai comes from the Long Night, could we see Asshai.

Also since the legend of Azor Ahai comes from the Long Night, could we see Asshai. I am hoping we get to see a lot more (and learn more) about the more mysterious exotic locations of the legends. Part of me had hoped they would pick the doom of Valyria as the storyline, but that would probably be too Targaryen/Valyria centric and not enough good material. Plus, people identify with Westeros and want some part of the story anchored there, so the long night really makes a lot more sense. It's a historic storyline with a lot of magical events that got lost over time. I definitely want to know the full story of the white walkers and whatever terrible things came out of Asshai in creating the Azor Ahai legend and prophecy.
