His name is...WHAT??!! arrrgghhh, Ned seems to immediately understand the significance of the name, and of course, Bran is there as a witness, as well. I've seen a couple of posts where people swear she says 'Aemon Targaryen', but even they admit that could be wishful thinking. Though one guy said if you watch really closely as Lyanna begins to whisper, it looks like her lips are forming a long 'A.' Of course, GoT is going to make this as difficult as possible to decipher--there are already entertainment articles asking the question--What Name Did Lyanna Say? What we need is an expert gif maker and then an expert lip-reader to decipher that expert gif. Anybody?

I just saw this at another board, from someone who says she's a lip-reader:

I would really like it to be Aemon. Rhaegar already had a son named Aegon, and a brother named Viserys (there's a guy on Westeros that is convinced Rhaegar named him Viserys to be as close to Aegon, Rhaenys, and Viseyna as possible). It's right up Martin's alley to have Maester Aemon have a relationship with his namesake and never know it.

I'm not a book wizard like some, but I saw someone mention that in the books when Jon takes over leadership of the Watch and something or other is all screwed up, he retorts: 'I'm no Aemon Targaryen!' HA, that's so GRRM! There has also never been a King Aemon, so he would be 'the first of his name,' which would be ...nice.

This must be another important piece of info George told D & D. They have to give him the same name as the books otherwise that would be stupid.
I've always been in the Aemon camp, however, when I turned it up I could swear there is a letter s pronounced in the way it would if she'd said Aerys. Although that is what it sounds like, I'm still leaning towards Aemon because of the hints in the books. She could have named him Aerys if she was totally unaware of what had been going on in Westeros whilst she was kidnapped/eloping/honeymooning with Rhaegar. And to be fair on Rhaegar, I'd limit some of the unpleasant stuff with her being pregnant. However, I trust my instinct over my ears and I still think she said Aemon. There was also enough time to say Targaryan.

I haven't rewatched it yet (though I will, many times!) but I've seen other posts that insist on the 's' sound being heard, but something else before it. So, Jahaerys, perhaps? Let me ask, when you focused in on that moment, did Lyanna's lips come together? Try it yourself, you can say either Aerys or Jahaerys with your mouth slightly parted--but if you're going to pronounce an 'M' as in Aemon, your lips definitely come together. LOL, I've been searching all day for a gif of that precise moment so I could study it myself, but haven't found it yet.

It definitely begins with Ae This is leading me to question what we know about Rhaegar and Aerys. Ned's look was of pure horror. Was it seeing Jon or the name she gave him. This will be the same as the book.

Okay, at last we have the video clip! Turn your volume up to full blast, squinch up your eyes like 4 inches from your screen--what name does she say??

I'm pretty sure she says Aerys. Which would be an interesting bit of bookending if Jon ends up King.

Hopefully it's Aemon instead of Aerys. I want to believe.
