They were not useless. WF is overrun in like 30 seconds without them. The Unsullied certainly made a huge difference. Then they spent the next 60 mins of the episode flying about doing fuck all The NK literally flies Viserion right into the GW and fucking eats Bran if not for Dany and Drogon.

No Jon and Dany and that place gets rolled in the first 5 minutes.
I gotta say I am not as big a fan of this episode as any of you. I saw some good stuff and some bad stuff. I thought the death of the NK, the build up to this, all to be underwhelming. The whole thing feels like it was really nothing more than a 20 year delay to fighting Cersei. I get why the show would do that.
I have an issue with the Drogon scene which put Dany on the ground so she could be with Jorah, who was apperantly the only man left outside the wall for some reason. But I did like she was with him at his death.
We never saw the Dothraki fight, a lot of build up for nothing.
Jon and the NK don't square off. Again a build up for nothing.
The lighting was bad more often than not for the big battle but improved when it was just basiclly the main cast fighting.
I wish they had not telegraphed Arya killing the NK, as soon as Mel said blue eyes. I was like she is going to do him and I spent the next 20-30 minutes knowing where everything was going. Which sucked.
Mel was a great surprise and then it was pointless 5 seconds later.
The mist was cool and I knew that was coming, talked about it here. But man it made it impossible to see a lot of stuff.
I need to rewatch, right now I am underwhelmed and sort of think it sucked.

I like that GoT did't have the Chosen One to kill the Dark Lord. All those talks about Azor Ahai was for nothing lol. But now I think I like it.
GoT is not typical fantasy and they proved that this episode.

i thought sansa was about to kill herself I was actually expecting there to be a clearer call back to Blackwater with her potentially getting ready to exit at her own terms. Never thought she's actually do it but I was just waiting for some kind of a nod. reminiscent of cersei getting ready to off herself in the face of defeat, as well. she kind of played the same role cersei did in blackwater, but was exponentially less funny about it.

I'm just surprised at that, that's all Tbh Jon's arc is pretty weak this season overall, so nothing new there. It'll get worse for him but even tho I expected him to kill NK because of the build-up, Arya was a pleasant twist. As Weiss and Benioff said in Inside of the Episode, Jon would be too obvious. Dany was good and as a bonus had to fight with a sword. A long time theory of mine that I liked to make fun of people hating on her. She's no fighter because riding a dragon is not a classic way of fighting like with swords.

So what was the point of those books Sam took from Oldtown lol? Yeah I gotta wonder ... a lot of build up there. He steals books and scrolls from the restricted section, they build a gorgeous Winterfell library set ... so I was sure there was going to be some sort of amazing revelation in there on how to take him out. Nope.

So what was the point of those books Sam took from Oldtown lol? I think this is true of a lot of questions we have regarding the Others and the whole magical aspect of the story. There are a lot of questions left unanswered that I'm afraid will never be answered on the show.

i also think this officially disqualifies arya from cersei's murder suspects. her killing the night king AND cersei would be a little bit much.
