They seem really unstoppable this year.
This is much stronger support from the Academy than I expected. I thought that Kit won't be nominated. And I never expected Alfie. I thought either Sophie or Gwen will be nominated but not both of them. In Directing category I knew Miguel will be nominated, but I expected only one more nomination, because they never got 3. But I'm happy that Nutter and D&D are nominated. Didn't expcet Carice either.
So, much better than I expected.

What an incredible haul! I knew that Game of Thrones would do very well on Emmy nomination morning, but even as optimistic as I was, I didn't expect it to do *this* well. 10 acting nominations is unheard of ... but if any cast and crew deserves it, it's the best damn cast and crew in the world! I’m particularly thrilled for Alfie, Gwendoline, Sophie, and Carice (all first time nominees), three directing noms, and David and Dan being recognized for writing! As someone who absolutely loves Season 8, for my money, Game of Thrones deserves every one of these nominations! In fact, *10* acting nominations in total – including the show’s first two ever in the Lead categories for Kit and Emilia – is an astonishingly impressive achievement. Is that a record? I’ll have to check. It’s especially notable, considering that the actor’s branch hasn’t always embraced the show as much as some of the others (with Peter Dinklage being the only one ever to win). They certainly opened their arms wide this time! I’m sure that vote splitting will come into play, but hopefully a few actors will be able to rise to the top and claim the trophy regardless. I’ll be rooting especially hard for Emilia in Lead Actress. As I’ve expressed many times, I believe that she did her best work ever this year. And of course, I’ll be rooting hard for David, Dan and the rest of the crew to take home their fourth Drama Series victory, which would tie them with Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, The West Wing, and Mad Men for the most ever in that category! Congratulations, one and all!

As I said in a previous thread, I hope Carice getting nominated inclines HBO towards helping her produce the Garbo movie she's wanted to make for so long. They did it with Dinklage for his Hervé Villechaize project, so I hope this pans out in a similar direction. I doubt it will because obviously Tyrion was a far more popular character and Dinklage helped the show and network a lot more with his past nominations and wins and press attention etc. But I retain some hope and this is the only precedent I can base it on at this point. And yes, I ought to have mentioned Gwendoline and Sophie's respective first nominations. Only Lena and Maisie imo stand a chance of winning (and with the vote this split I think it's unlikely any of them will get it) but regardless it shows the talent of this cast that they could dominate the category like that. By that same token one has to wonder if this Emmy goodwill towards the show ups Kit and Emilia's chances since they're facing no competition from co-stars in their categories. I'd love it if it were the case. People were pretty dismissive of their talent for quite awhile, likely because of their looks, but both grew a tremendous amount as actors and became more comfortable in their skins as their characters. It would be very satisfying if one of the two last Targs won Emmys in the end. Most importantly, I'm glad we'll be getting another GoT script PDF online. Even if it gives the reddit types more ammunition to slaver over and willingly distort. I still love reading published scripts and seeing the differences from page to screen and gleaning what I can from them about the creative process. No matter how much it could revitalize the intellectually dishonest keyboard-thumping reefolk ghouls' slanderous bile. Its always worth it to get that kind of a look into the show's development.

GoT did even better than HBO expected lol since they haven't submitted Carice, Alfie and Gwen.
I think Miguel is favorite in his category, but 2 more GoT episodes are maybe too much for him. I guess D&D want him to win and they will campaign the most for that episode. But cinematography nomination for D&D's episode may show that there is no clear favorite here, so the votes will be split and we will get non GoT winner.
One thing is sure, they will the main award. There is 0% chance that they won't. And Peter will win. But everything else is open.
Maybe the fact that they nominated 4 GoT actress shows that GoT has much stronger support than anyone so they will win here as well.
I could see a total domination with Drama Emmy, Peter, Lena, Emilia, Miguel and even D&D winning for writing. But I think repeat of last year is more likely. So Drama Series and Emmy for Piter and maybe Miguel.

I'm glad the negative voices in the fandom didn't influence this. Emilia deserves to win. So does the show as a whole imo. I rewatched S8 and I'm now quite happy with the final season, despite some (imho) minor flaws.

Lol, Lena getting a nomination for sipping wine and staring out a window all season. I love her as an actress but....this is one of the rare years she does not deserve a nomination or win. (I disliked season 8 but generally thouht 5e acting was great so this isnt from a “i hate the show!” Perspective.
Emilia has tough competition. Easily her best season and great performance but Oh and Comer are just fantastic and, if i’m honest, probably deserve the win more

I keep seeing this everywhere and I find it a bit irritating, so I have to comment on it. Lena did more than just drinking wine and staring out of a window. Yes, her screentime was reduced this year but what she did was still absolutely Emmy worthy.

Lena did more impressive things this year than them imo. (And I support Carice's and Alfie's noms by the way and think they deserve it too)

I think she was much better than Robin Wright in S6 of HoC. Robin had entire season for herself and Lena still showed bigger range of emotions in her limited screentime. So if Robin was nominated for Lead actress over Julia Roberts I don't see why Lena wouldn't be.
Lena's work in The Bells was really good. From pure confidence we saw in that first shot to complete breakdown. She had very limited screentime but quality over quantity I guess.

The whole online discourse about GoT was reduced to memes. Things people say over and over, until they (kinda) forget they are lies. Like Kit having only 2 lines in the entire season. I guess they kinda forgot how great he was in his scene with Sam in E1. Or in the Bells. And they kinda forgot his two scenes with Tyrion in the last episode. Or his farewell with the Starks. I mean, if he was nominated for S6 I see no reason not to have him this season. He had more challenging scenes this year.

Imo Kit is and always has been a terrible actor, showing all the range of a teaspoon. Others obviously disagree. Lena is a great actress, i don’t dispute that at all. But she literally stood around all season with one or two scenes where she got to flex those acting chops. Those scenes were great, sure, but worthy of an emmy? Sadly, i would say not. I feel bad for Gwen Alfie and Carice having had to pay for themselves
