I think it will be Pedro/Nikolaj situation. Doubly so for Emma D'Arcy, I'm guessing. Rhaenyra seems like the part they would've held the widest range of auditions for and considered unknowns as well as bigger names before choosing her, so she must've proved quite impressive throughout that process. She's getting flak now for not being an Emilia 2.0 (enough so that she's made her twitter private since yesterday) but I think that'll subside when the show airs. I just feel bad for her in the meantime. Matt Smith on the other hand has, I can only imagine, long since learned to cope with the weirdness of fandoms. Anytime a new Dr. Who is announced batshittery ensues. So this period of adjustment will be a walk in the park for him. That is not cool. This is an adaptation, you have to give them a chance to see what they put together first.

It could be they're just switching the history of House Velaryon because it wasn't established in GoT, which imo would work fine. Or maybe the Velaryons will be black with silver hair which would look pretty cool if done right. Either way the wig budget on this show will be massive. As for the casting discontent generally, I remember some of the reactions to the s1 casting and some of what I'm hearing sounds like deja vu. Not that these will all automatically pan out, who knows but assuming Nina Gold is still picking the actors, her track record is a strong one. I've heard very good things about Olivia Cooke though. Making the Velaryons black is fraught with danger and opportunity. One thing I've been thinking about is, it could close the door on Rhaenyra's sons obviously being Strong's since they looked nothing like Rhaenyra and Laenor. I never understood why Corlys and Rhaeyns supported Rhaenyra, those kids were very obviously not their grandchildren. I think Rhaenys died in the war right? I may be forgetting their motivations. I forgot to link this a few days ago but a casting call has been posted for Rhaenys (and some other parts) and it seems like they're going with the angle that she's making up for what she thinks should have been hers by supporting a female heir over a male. As for Rhaenyra's first marriage and how the timeline will be spaced out, I'm still pretty confused. Maybe some of the stuff with her Strong marriage will be streamlined? I dunno. But unless they make House Strong black too, that would nix that drama.

There are many opportunities and equally many perils. Speaking of Rhaenys, does now become Yara? Rhaenys and Rhaenyra are too similar LOL.

I don't know how accurate this face swapping thing is, but with make up and cosutme Emma could pull it off.

I am completely confused over the timeline in HOTD. lol So the rumour is that the story will start in 105 AC when Rhaenyra Targaryen died she was 33 years old. Emma D’Arcy is now 28 years old, so by the time when they shoot the final season she would be over 30, so perfect age for the character and there is no need to replace her with older actress. But when the show starts the character is just 8.
then you have Alicent Hightower who will be 42 years old at the end of the story, played by the actress who is 26 old lol But in 105 AC Alicent is 17, so actress is too old to play her in S1 and too young to play her later.
Her son Aegon II was 24 when he died…but he will be little boy in the timeline of S1 He was born in 107 AC…there is no need for Rhaenyra to be replaced but I don’t think that the actress who is 26 (she will be older in later seasons) can play mother of someone who is in his 20s as well.
Matt Smith is 38 years old. Daemon when he died was 49 years old. Again, Smith will be over 40 when they shoot the final season and having 42-43 (or whatever) actor play 49 year old man is not problem at all.

Will there be flash backs and different actors playing the same role that have yet to be announced?

I think Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy should reasonably be able to play their characters from their late teens into their thirties. Both look younger than they are and could be made to look somewhat older without too much fuss, particularly if Rhaenyra puts on weight like she does in the novella.
There'll probably have to be a child actor for Rhaenyra in the pilot or even for a few episodes, barring any potential further compression of the timeline. But the way these casting announcements read I don't think they'll go the Crown route of regular recasting. This is just my reading of it but they sounded pretty permanent to me. I think it's more likely they keep the passage of time vague (which the ASOIAF world's length of seasons creates extra leeway for) and maybe merge several of their children and grandchildren to focus things and to not strain the credulity of their ages too much.

But what about Aegon II? He will be born at some point in S1 and probably be played by some little boy in the first season?
I don't think recasting will work here, I mean in this show. The whole point if starting this early in timeline is to make people care about these characters once the war starts. But if you build emotional connection with one cast and then replace them with another it's all pointless.
Also as I said I don't see reason for 28 Emma to be replacec with someone who is 30. If her character was 50-60 years old at the end then yes, but now it's pointless.
I guess it will be just hair and make up, like with Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars. The same actor played him in E2 and E3 even if there was 10 years time jump between movies.
So solution can be to have a child actress play Rhaenyra at the begining of S1 and then Emma can take over playing a teen and a child actor playing Aegon in the second half of S1 being replaced in S2 with a 18 years old actor who can pull of both teen and young man( growing beard for later part probably )

But yeah other than Rhaenrya right at the very beginning of the season, I don't think there'll be need recast the main three names that were just announced.

Is there a post somewhere detailing every small piece of info we have, like in the old days? I haven't really paid any attention to any Asoiaf/Got news for the past year or so, so I'm pretty out of the loop here Ps. is this place still active?

Basically all of the info is in the past page or so of this thread. Won't take long to scroll through. Maybe someone less lazy than me could compile it all. As for whether we're active or not, not really, except some discussion about this show in the past week or so. Hopefully as we get more info and when the shoot starts things might liven up somewhat more.

This was the best place to talk about Game of Thrones. I hope it goes back with HOTD.
I don't want Reddit and Twitter to be my only places online to talk about GOT lol
