Ah gotcha. Well, I think we can all agree that like her or dislike her, she is an excellent character with so much depth. And Michelle was SO good as her. I would have liked to see her play her as LSH. Would have been pretty cool.
I can't remember if we see Rickon in this? I thought there was a flash of him when they are all out in the courtyard and Bran is practicing his archery, but is he there when they line up to meet the King? Robert makes a comment to each of the Stark kids but not Rickon. "San Andreas" was on this weekend (with The Rock lol) and Art Parkinson has a pretty prominent role in it. He was also in Dracula Untold (I remember screaming "IT'S RICKON!!!) and scaring the crap out of my friends lol. Anyhow, Art Parkinson is really a terrific actor - I'm sad that GOT really didn't utilize him more.

My dislike of her is based in much more than just her treatment of Jon, but again, that goes again with my personal experiences of motherhood. We could start a whole thread on that which probably would get really boring really fast LOL!! But I repeat again - she is a GREAT character. Just because she hits a nerve with me, doesn't mean she doesn't have a huge value to the story or isn't worthy of the opposing adoration as a character - she could easily be heroic and brave to someone else. We all have those characters we love and those we don't. It's all good. That's why these stories are so fantastic. DEPTH.

Yeah I think that happened with quite a few characters for me. For example, I hated Jaime and Theon in S1 too, but Nikolaj and Alfie are incredible actors. And then as I started the books and as the seasons went on, I started to appreciate their characters more and the depth they had. Which is why rewatching the series, I find Cersei to be a very intriguing character, despite all of the horrible things she's done. And Lena has been amazing from the beginning too.

The first season reminds me of how I much I used to hate Sansa. Shit... One of the thing I love most about this series is the constant character development. GRRM does not write one dimensional characters, does he? Everything is always in motion. I LOVE that. I can't wait to see where Jaime with go. I can't wait to see where Sansa continues to go (lol, I too forgot how much she annoyed me in the first few seasons! But she's one of my favorites now....(see, if Cat had lived, who knows?? lol) The only painful thing is just as a character can evolve to good, the opposite is true. I fear Arya is on this track....and hope I am very wrong.

Tyene and Nym seem to have some shading in their characterization at least. Obara though I won't defend. Also Tyene's an angel.

I agree....but she never makes Jon feel loved or an actual part of the family and it's not his "fault". Her displeasure and anger should have been aimed at Ned, not Jon. And she's pretty awful to him (The scene where he's just trying to say goodbye to Bran and she tells him to leave; and her disgusted looks do not go unnoticed by Jon). I think motherhood is what has me so against her. I cannot even fathom treating a child like that...before I had a kid, I might have felt differently, I don't know. Don't get me wrong - she is a terrific character. But for me, she's a great character to despise. Jon was not part of her family, she had no obligations towards him. None. She was a highborn lady, he was her husband's bastard, his mere existence was a dishonor to her. I think it's problematic and a little bit unfair to apply real life moral standards to this situation. Catelyn never liked Jon, she could never swallow her pride, she couldn't even force herself to be nice to him. But Jon was not Cinderella and Cat was not the evil stepmother, she didn't actively seek ways to be cruel to him, she avoided and ignored him most of the times. Jon still recieved the same privileges as his trueborn siblings did, food, clothing, education, freedom. For a bastard in Westeros, he had a pretty great life. Catelyn's treatment of Jon was cold and distant, but it wasn't evil, we have no reason to believe that she was ever cruel to him or that she abused him in any way. She simply did not love him and she never tried to hide her feelings. And let's not forget that from Cat's perspective, Jon posed a legitimate threat to her children's inheritance rights. Well put Basil. One of the things I love about this series, and one of the main reasons I want to see Dany vs Jon is that conflict between characters we like is great. It adds a level of depth that isn't their for Jon v the Boltons (sorry Nezzer and @roose, I know you love the Boltons, I meant the casuals who hate them) or Dany v The Harpies. People love both sides, so it adds to the discussion and to the development of the characters. Cat and Jon having this odd relationship is fantastic because it adds a level to both of them. Jon can never feel he was a part of the Stark family, and Cat always has this lingering seed of doubt about Ned. It doesn't make them bad, it makes them better.

All this talk about Cat and Jon reminded me of the alarming amount of people that thought that look between them after archery practice was because they were secretly fucking, and not because he was Ned's bastard.

Yes, I thought it was just the one person I knew in RL, but then I've seen memes about it, so clearly a decent amount of other people totally misinterpreted that glare. *This is also the same person who thought Jon and Meera were twins, so it's not like the credibility is strong with this one.

Let's not forget the roots of the pilot. The first draft was such a mess. www.cinemablend.com/television/How-Bad-Game-Thrones-Pilot-Actually-Was-Reshoots-115787.htmlGlad they got right feedback and cleaned it up or we wouldn't be here three forums later... In a BTS, the showrunners talked how they add exposition lines in there like "That's the Queen's twin brother" and of course all the Robert/Rhaegar/Lyanna backstory content. Book's adaptation are a bitch to pull off. In some ways, I'm sure D&D felt relieved to move past ADWD this year. Watching the Stark family together is pure gold. The mischief Arya always pissing off Sansa, showing up Bran in some archery. Watching Jon/Tyrion scene makes me chuckle at the missed somersault opportunity. The somersault was the first great book cut by the showrunners. And it helped separate the cartoonish Tyrion we get early in the books. Direwolves are freakin' adorable. Man we need some Ghost and Nymeria in Season 6! With no book background, I once thought Viserys was the main character at Pentos. Viserys is basically the Mad King reborn. Harry Lloyd did a great job with this character and I love his RL enthusiasm for the show (he's done audiobooks, interviews, etc.). And a million men fell in love with Emilia Clarke in that episode. And we all thought she was blond!
