Really happy that this amazing feat is getting the proper treatment. Hopefully something like this can elevate Nolan to new levels. Also if it turns out Harry Styles can fucking act it's going to be hilarious. Likewise if he can't, it's a win/win! I have no idea who Harry Styles is, but that's a solid teaser.

Here's some more detailed thought on Suicide Squad. My first thought coming out of this was that I wanted to see a sequel. Not because I thought it was a good movie, but I thought there were moments where this could have actually been good but those were few and far between. Some of the characters were great, but the rest were entirely wasted. Just when it looked like things were getting better, they threw in something that undid all the good they had just done. With a better director, a sequel could be pretty good.
As most people have said, the editing was bad. Real bad. The lens flare, the EXCESSIVE slow motion (especially at the end where we all knew exactly what was going to happen), the silly intro slide things. All bad. Another problem is that we all knew exactly what was going to happen:
Deadshot wasn't gonna kill Harley. Croc was gonna throw that bomb into the magic shit and Deadshot was gonna shoot it (so there was no need for 30 seconds of slow mo to see that happen). June was gonna somehow miraculously survive. There was no suspense.
The plot itself wasn't awful, but the execution was to the point where it went from a interesting concept to a unnecessarily convoluted mess to a cliche ending.
And now I'll grade the cast:
Margot Robbie/Harley Quinn- A: Robbie was absolutely fantastic and if you really only want to see this to see Harley, you won't be disappointed. I don't know as much about the character as some of you do, but I thought it was perfect from what I've seen before. The only problems I had were that the flashbacks with her and the Joker were way better than anything going on with the actual plot of the actual movie. I much rather would have seen that movie than the shit they showed here. Most of her jokes hit, her cutesy attitude helped lighten things when they got really boring, and her reactions to the flashbacks and memories showed a fantastic second side to her. The visions of what she wanted were actually kind of moving.
Will Smith/Deadshot- A-: The only other character I thought was consistently good. He was essentially just an evil Will Smith and I love Will Smith so this was perfect. I loved the friendship they played up between him and Harley and the fact that he was the only other character with any development and motivation made him work. See, this is what could have made the movie good. Treat everyone like they treated Deadshot or introduce them in earlier movies and wait for the ensemble one. They tried to do too much to quickly, but letting Deadshot and Harley breath is the reason they worked so well.
Viola Davis/Amanda Waller- B: Viola Davis did well, but the character seemed recklessly stupid. I was just annoyed with her and her motivations were not clear enough for a person unfamiliar with the character, such as myself.
Joel Kinnaman/Rick Flag- C+: Again, acting was fine, motivation was dumb. He had no character development beyond "I love June, let's save her but also listen to Amanda Waller I guess?" I can see why the director said he made this for the fans.
Jay Hernandez/El Diablo- C: Decent acting job as a stereotypical reluctant superhero. By the time they developed him, I didn't really care anymore and it was a little lame that all he needed to let loose was a tap on the head by Deadshot. They could've done a lot more with this and I think Hernandez would be capable of a better performance with a more fleshed out character.
Karen Fukuhara/Katana- C: She was pretty cool, especially in the fight scenes, but I would have liked to see a little more about her husband and her sword thingy. I don't know why she showed up or why she had Flag's back or whatever either. She would have done well in a solo film.
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje/Killer Croc- D+: Not quite sure why AAA is acting like he had to do a lot of tough work and "go to a dark place" for this role when he had like five lines, did one thing, and made one joke about being a black man at the end. Complete waste of a decently cool villain.
Jai Courtney/Captain Boomerang- D-: Captain Boomerang is stupid no matter who plays him, but I am not a fan of Jai Courtney. I didn't like that they tried to shoehorn him in with Deadshot and Harley by the end. He wasn't funny, he wasn't cool, his name is dumb and his motivations (AND ABILTIES AND REASON FOR BEING IN A MAX SEC PRISON) were unclear the whole time. And what the fuck with the unicorn???????
Cara Delevingne/June Whatever/Enchantress- F: CARA DELEVINGNE IS A BAD ACTRESS. SHE IS NOT GOOD. NOT GOOD AT ALL. Enchantress was terribly done too. A villain needs to be established and they did not do that here. They gave her her little intro clips with the rest of the characters and then a moment where suddenly the Enchantress completely takes over and wants to destroy humanity because they built stuff. They did a terrible job with her. And that stupid little dance walk thing she was doing when she was facing down the villains was AWFUL. And let's not even talk about the Brother, he didn't need to be in the movie. I will repeat for emphasis: CARA DELEVINGNE IS BAD AT ACTING.
Um, zipline guy who was in the movie for a minute?- FFFFFFFFF: Why? Why did they bring this guy in for a literal minute and then kill him? Who was he? What was the point? Why cut Joker scenes but leave this random dude in for his random moment? I almost walked out but Harley and Deadshot had done enough to keep me in my seat by that point. So dumb tho.
Jared Leto/Joker- I: Seriously? He had like, what, ten minutes of total screentime? Leto was fine I guess, but again, I would have rather seen a Joker/Harley movie than this. That sideplot got way overshadowed by the poor execution of the main plot. I'm giving him an incomplete because they didn't let us see enough of him to really make a judgement. Not even gonna compare this to Heath Ledger. I want to see more, but I'm still not sure if its because of Leto's performance or because it's unfair to judge him fully on the little time he was in this movie. Terrible advertising too. People will be disappointed if they go in expecting a lot of Mr. J.
Ben Affleck/Batman/Bruce Wayne- P: He gets a pass for the short time he was in the movie. I actually really would have liked for Batman to show up to try to stop Enchantress only for him to get fucked up, THEN bring in the villains for some teamwork shit.
The worst part of this movie was the pacing. It was TERRIBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Further explanation below: We start of with a Deadshot scene. Ok. Then a Harley scene. Ok, let's meet our main characters. Wait suddenly they're all being recruited by Viola Davis and the army? Uh, ok this is getting a little sloppy. And suddenly we're straight into it all. Tiny scenes introducing other characters, most of whom get little to no backstory or development. They needed to let the moments breath just as much as they needed to let the characters breath and none of that happened. It was overpacked and turned into a sloppy, messy, rush job of a movie. And they should have just killed off June at the end. That would have been more of an emotional moment. Instead, everything works out, everyone gets what they want, and everyone is back to prison. Ok.
One more thing about the "villain": The best part of Batman's world is that most of the villains in Gotham are broken in mind and/or body and that's what's so scary about many of them. They're just people with a horrid mind or some dangerous tech and usually backed up by dudes with guns. The Enchantress and her brother were not that. The weird magicy shit felt out of place in Gotham and that took me out of the final fight. The lack of stakes in the DC movie universe is a problem that extends back to Man of Steel, so I won't touch on that here.
Overall, I would give it just a 5/10. There were moments that looked like parts of a great movie and it was nice to see Arkham and Harley. It just left me wishing that I could have seen that movie instead of this one. :-[
OH ALSO: 10/10 MARGOT ROBBIE BUTT. The amount of shots they were able to show her ass in is hilarious.

The Little Prince is out now on Netflix and it is amazing. And it has Paul Rudd AND Rachel McAdams in it. The voice cast is amazing. Paramount is SILLY.

OH ALSO: 10/10 MARGOT ROBBIE BUTT. The amount of shots they were able to show her ass in is hilarious. Well I saw this movie and outside of Robbie your review was good. Robbie was not an A, she deserves better. She was the only reason to see the movie and given that she was forced to be on screen with Jai Courtney there has to be a bonus category to the letter grade. Like a AAA rating, you know like a credit score for the being the best. My take is pretty simple, to many characters, generic plot, generic ending. I blame WB more than anyone they asked the director to mimic Snyder, with the lens filter, the flaring, the slow motion, the style over substance and the style was never that good to begin with. They wanted a dark violent movie but they wanted PG 13. It's not a family movie, you don't take your kids to see it, but bring your kids, it's not a great concept. After the film was finished they had to go back and re-shoot because WB wanted it to be funnier after they asked for it to be Darker. And for the love of god could someone stop trying to make Jai Courtney happen, it's over, he sucks. WB is afraid to compete with Disney with the Super Hero family movie, and say what you will Disney make a well thought out movie that anyone can watch. So they go for different, they just don't seem to have their plan very well thought out, and who ever is in charge of the DC brand should be fired. DC characters are even more Superhero archetypal than Marvel, you can't squeeze them very well into Snyders style or Nolans Batman, outside of Batman. They are trying so hard to be different and edgy and also get movies out as fast as they can. This movie screamed rated R dark comedy action. I was not impressed with Smith this was typical Will Smith generic action guy, I just saw Concussion, Concussion is Will Smith trying, that's him earning his money. Did not really care about the other characters and Robbie steals every scene she is in which did not help them. I would never make sequel to this, you could reuse some of the Characters for the upcoming Batman films but most are forgettable. That said you could give Robbie a movie, Harley and Ivy. That's a dark comedy buddy movie waiting to happen. Oh and Hollywood, stop trying to make Jai Courtney happen! I know I said it before but some things bear repeating. Anyway, I don't suppose anyone has seen the Big Short? It's really good.

The only thing I've ever liked Jai Courtney in was Spartacus. He was actually pretty decent in that series. Not sure what happened since...

Just watched a great documentary on HBO called Hitchcock/Truffaut. It's about the book that French director François Truffaut did about Alfred Hitchcock after a series of interviews where Truffaut questioned Hitchcock about his work film by film. It also had interviews with some of my favorite directors and screenwriters about Hitchcock and his influence on cinema. I highly recommend it to any Hitchcock fans, or film buff's in general.

I'll have to check that one out. There's not much I'm looking forward to in the near future. The Handmaiden and Rogue One, that's about it. So it might be worth seeing at the theater.
Speaking of Villeneuve, I still need to see Sicario. I liked Prisoners, but I really want to be sold on this guy going into Blade Runner 2.
