Honestly, I think he's just slow and very distracted writer. He has a million knots to untie from AFFC/ADWD before getting to ADOS, where he has knows the ending. TWOW should be harder book to write then ADOS. I wished he would just use the show's inspiration on some of the topics to move forward. (Weird I know). I think the Meereenese knot is the most difficult for him to get out of because he has so many factions circulating there, but the Battle of Meereen will likely solve those issues. I wish Tyrion had met Dany earlier though like in the show. The timeline is difficult to figure out in some cases, but I imagine that Dany would fly in on Drogon and the Dothraki would charge the Yunkish near the end of it. Didn't George basically said how Meereen is overcomplicated and he made a mistake there? Anyway, agreed with Tyrion meeting Dany and in this regard show deserves a round of applause for not waisting any more time on this. Just let them meet and interact. George can only blame himself for the pace, structure of his books. it got to the point where he clearly struggles to tie up things and avdance the plot. I do think if he managed to get TWOW to release and simultaneously with the promoting campaign of the season 7 or 8 of the show, it would benefit him a lot. Show is already super popular and basically peaked or nearly of it.

Yeah I think he might have and in a way, it does buy time for the Westeros storylines a bit more before Dany arrives, but the fact that he had Volantis and then Qarth coming in to impact the battle, it really could have just been Barristan and Dany's allies vs. the Yunkish. Ah well. I agree that he could have found a way to write both of the battles into Dance if he condensed some of the material and didn't create so many new POV's. At this point, I dunno when Winds will be released, but even saying by the end of this year is optimistic without any real update on his progress. I would hope he's at least halfway or two-thirds done.

I've always love the detail he puts into his story, the connection he makes with symbolism and parallels. However, I think he got overwhelmed with a lot of that and also the expansiveness of his POV's and world. AGOT took encompasses an entire year but none of the other books managed to cover that much time.

I agree with him it should have been Winds of Winter over BotB. And he loves San Junipero!

GRRM is tweeting today outside his journal entries. This is an anomaly (and apparently not a hack job) it's building hype for some reason.

This cracks me up. The Starks might have started as the central family of ASOIAF but it was the Targaryens who stole GRRM's heart. He just opened an artist studio and what does he call it: Dragonston Studios. grrm.livejournal.com/531508.html

If he said it in his blog then it's definitely him. I trust his blog, it's the one thing we know for sure he still post at.

GRRM is tweeting today outside his journal entries. This is an anomaly (and apparently not a hack job) it's building hype for some reason. Just like several times in the past with other speculations, he has dismissed the speculation that the recent posts on tweeter and elsewhere are building up to something, grrm.livejournal.com/533192.html?thread=26015432At this point, I have a feeling that HBO is preventing him from releasing TWOW prior to season 7. This is to prevent the readers from knowing what is going to happen. This was the problem from HBO's perspective in the initial seasons. A large section of the audience already knew what was going to happen and they were frequently and (usually) unwittingly spoiling the show for everyone else. GRRM is in negotiation with HBO over few other projects. As a result, HBO has leverage in this matter and so this looks plausible. If GRRM declares TWOW completion towards the end of the new season or around that time, that would confirm as far as I am concerned that it was indeed HBO delaying the TWOW release.

Sorry but... I know how that looks. But it is a fact that HBO has leverage over him as they are in negotiation over other projects.
