Basil, and now that you've seen the movie, what do you think of my theory that I posted a couple of days ago?

I'm so happy that you loved it. <3 Eddie is fantastic, isn't he? I genuinely had a crush on Newt throughout the entire movie. He is so sweet. I loved all the mentions of known spells, characters and places. Every time someone mentioned something, I got progressively more hyped. The CGI was not that good, I agree. You know what was terrifying? That "death penalty" scene. Also, Ariana Dumbledore is totally an obscurus. What do you think? I'm very conflicted about Depp, because Colin Farrell did such an amazing job. I wish he were Gellert. Ps: Give me that pet niffler please. I want it. That thing is like a cute little pokemon. The death penalty scene was sooo fucked up. In a world where the Avada Kedavra curse exists (which, as terrible as it is, at least provides a painless, instant death), the way they went about in this movie seemed over the top sadistic and so unnecessary cruel. This might have been one of the darkest things we've seen in the Harry Potter universe ... and those were no dark wizards or death eaters, those were aurors, the "good guys". Yeah, I read that apparently Ariana Dumbledore was an obscurial too. It would totally make sense considering everything we know from the books about what happened to her. I really liked that concept a lot, I almost wish Jo had explored it more in the Harry Potter books. the niffler was cute, but the singing female house elf or goblin or whatever that thing was was nightmare fuel

They should get Frank Dillane to come back and play Tom Riddle again, should they show him at all. Nah, I think Ralph Fiennes's nephew would be a better person to get back, as he'll be more age appropriate by the time it gets round to this. Plus, Frank Dillane looks like a stoner these days

The hot piece from CoS will always be Tom Riddle to me. Shame that Coulson was already in his 20s in that movie and just had to keep on aging.

Plus, Frank Dillane looks like a stoner these days I just looked him up to see whether he still looks the part despite having gone through puberty. I think he could still pull off Tom Riddle:

Great video summarising Voldemort's story: I mean the to reply to this earlier! I wish we'd gotten to see the scene where Riddle asks Dumbledore for a job in HBP, if mainly just to see what a younger Voldemort would have looked like.

I wish we'd gotten to see the scene where Riddle asks Dumbledore for a job in HBP, if mainly just to see what a younger Voldemort would have looked like. I generally wish that HBP had been more about that aspect of the story and less about hormonal teenagers. You know, before the internet made Voldemort funny, I was actually genuinely terrified of him. I remember listening to the German audio book of Philosopher's Stone and Rufus Beck's Voldemort voice scared the bejeezus out of me. The same with his basilisk voice in CoS. One time I was rereading Goblet of Fire when I was sick and I had a really bad fever-enduced nightmare about the graveyard scene. So yeah, seeing a younger Voldemort would have been quite interesting. He is such a fascinating villain.

Ah I got into Harry Potter pretty late so by the time I was reading the books I already had the Ralph Fiennes version from Goblet of Fire envisioned as I was reading. The Philosophers Stone version still makes me uneasy to this day though. But that could just be the special effects

My aunt just blindly bought Philosopher's Stone weeks after its German release and gave it to me. I first read the book in 1998 when it was still pretty unknown. I was 9 years old. So yep, Voldemort was still pretty scary to me back then. But damn, I read the first book as a 9-year-old in German (I didn't speak English back then) and then in 2007 I read the last book in English as a 17-year-old. This is crazy to me. No, I do think that he was quite scary in the first movie.
