Not too long though... The sad things is, Dany herself will probably not be Queen for very long before she dies Shhh, don't say that. You'll make him sad!

King's Landing really did not let us down at all. Us spoiler fiends heard whispers of something big happening in the capital in the finale, but no one really knew exactly what. But deep down, I think we all knew it was going to be a bloodbath. King's Landing has been such a slow burn this season, but it was worth it for that ending. Glorious. Queen Cersei I Lannister, the First of Her Name! Long may she reign! Goddamn right.

I wonder why they left Sam's intro to the library for the finale. That could have been an episode 7 or 8 happening. Does it have some sort of thematic connection to the rest of episode 10 that I'm not getting? Oh, actually, I do understand now that I think about it. They wanted "winter is here" to happen in the finale, with all the white ravens coming out of the Citadel. I did like the clerk at the Citadel.
The Septa Unella scene was just another "big bad" torture scene, but then I realized that the point of it was that Cersei left Tommen alone to go taunt Unella. Unella wasn't urgent. Cersei could have gone and messed with her at any point. Cersei didn't check in on Tommen, didn't send some servants to keep an eye on him, nothing - just sent her monster to keep him in his room before the explosion and then called the monster off to the more important task of torturing Unella. It is a stunning lack of empathy, and one I think Cersei will dwell on going forward. Cersei's decisions played a role in both Joffrey and Myrcella's deaths, but there was nothing that Cersei could have done in the week of their death to keep either child alive. But Tommen's death was completely preventable if Ceresi had just thought about it.
I also remember Cersei told Tyrion that she had contemplated suicide by jumping out of the Red Keep before she had Joffrey. So Tommen's choice of that method will probably also haunt her.
Sometimes these kinds of threads get dropped, but I bet GoT will circle back around to Cersei's guilt at Tommen's death next year. They held onto the emotional toll of Shireen's death for a whole season, to devastating effect. And I think the show has been consistently good at writing for Cersei.
An AV Club reviewer gave Olenna's writing flak for saying that Olenna wasn't much changed by the destruction of her family. I guess she was pretty much the same angry crotchety self that she has been all season, but I think that grief might be further explored next year as well.

It's a bit irritating that they don't confirm Rhaegar as the father. It's obvious, but still this'll give the conspiracy theorists and tin-foil hat wearers something to mull over during the off-season

I wonder if in next season's opening credits the stag in King's Landing will be replaced by a lion?

As much as I loved SNOWBOWL like nothing else, I still have no idea why they submitted BotB as best writing for the Emmys instead of TWoW. I was blown away by SNOWBOWL, but the writing wasn't something that stood out, and, honestly, it wasn't really that special, as it was the directing, the VFX and the visuals overall that made it so great. TWoW is far more worthy of a best writing award.

TWoW is far more worthy of a best writing award. Don't the showrunners give visual directions in the script though? I'm sure Miguel worked using what D&D gave him in many instances, and the directions, at least from the way things were shot, were spectacular enough to win the Emmy anyway imo. Also, I think that since today was the last day for nomination ballots, they didn't want to take any chances by submitting such a late last-minute episode, and instead opted for the one that was released a week ago. Judging from the incredible reception it got, BotB is highly likely to win regardless. But yeah it would have been nice if they had submitted both Bastards and TWOW, the writing in this one, especially in the more intimate conversations such as Jon/Sansa, Sansa/LF, Dany/Tyrion, etc was really good.

Which character do you guys think had the strongest arc this season? Ooh that's a tough one. There's characters whose "arcs" haven't been great but they've been given some fantastic material (Davis and Margaery in 6x10) then there's those whose adds were strongest. Dany and Cersei have had some great moments throughout, but they've been lacking in real conflict and seems like the entire season was basically a build-up for both. Jon probably gets it for me. He did sorta disappear for a while after he came back but he did pretty much everything he needed to do. He had motivation, purpose, build-up, etc. so yeah I'd say Jon. (Sansa comes close, but that last episode left me a little confused as to where they wanted to go with her.)

Lord Glover had a pretty cool two episode arc. As briefly as he was in that moment at the coronation felt very earned.
