I know this has been discussed in the general speculation thread, however, as we get filming news coming out, we might have some more insight into whether we'll get any romance in season 7, or even some set up for romance in season 8.
There are a lot of ships in the book series and the show. Are any of these budding romances likely to come to fruition in front of our eyes? Will season 7 be a set up season where the hints are placed into our minds? I'm including both book and show as technically they will have a similar ending. Although I'm not convinced that we'll have the same relationships. Some characters will be replicated as they are in multiple ships.
1) Jon and Dany. I don't think this is on for season 7. However, I'm expecting the groundwork to be laid for season 8. The show has already sowed the seeds into our minds. I've sure 99% of the viewers knew what was being hinted at when Dany broke up with Daario and the word marriage was used.
2) Sansa and Littlefinger. In my eyes I see this happening. Not in a romantic way, although Sansa might lead him on in a sexual way. I think Sansa will want to ensure that she gets everything she can from Littlefinger before she offs him. So she'll have to marry him and probably have to consummate the marriage to enable her to get everything from him. I think this will cause issues with Jon as she won't be able to tell his her real plans because Jon won't approve. After that I think Sansa will kill him. Sansa marrying Littlefinger is the best way she can protect Jon from him.
3) Sansa and Sandor. There isn't time left in the show for this to be set up. In the books it is a minor subplot and we know what the show does to major subplots. I don't think it is important enough to the ending to waste any time on it. I also don't think it has been set up in the show. I saw the show before I read the books during season 3 and I didn't pick up on it in the show.
4) Jon and Sansa. See points 1 and 2.
5) Brienne and Tormund. It sounds like the show was just having a bit of fun with us. Maybe testing the water to see how long it would take to convince the audience of a budding romance.
6) Brienne and Jamie. I hope so. This is one possible romance that has been clearly set up. You don't need to be a book reader to spot this one. Whether it happens it depends on if Jamie is thrown out of Kings Landing or whether he leaves himself. The show has set it up that Jamie and Cersei are now finished and in all likelihood, enemies.
7) Arya and Gendry. If Gendry returns I would expect this to be a dead cert. Although, I'm not entirely sure whether Gendry would like what Arya has become.
8) Arya and Sandor. I know it sounds odd, but I think there might have been some set up for this in season 6. Arya almost admitted that she cared for the Hound. Whether it is meant in a fatherly way, I'm not sure. Maybe the show is swapping the sisters. If so they lied in their response to point 4 at Comic Con.
9) Jon and Arya. There is absolutely no show set up for this. I'm doubtful that they will even meet again.
10) Euron and Cersei. The seeds have been cast in our minds during season 6 that an alliance wouldn't be out of the question. Yara made it clear he would demand marriage to Dany. I would assume it would be the same demand for Cersei too. I'm not ruling out a political ship with this pair.
I personally think the show will only do the essential ships. To me, those points are 1,2,6 and 10. They are not likely to be romantic, but essential partners for the overall outcome. I'm thinking that Brienne might still play a part in Jamie's decision to leave Cersei. The show might add one in for fun.
I've probably missed a few.
Rumpy Pumpy is not a requirement for shipping in these waters.

Rumpy Pumps is not a requirement for shipping in these waters. Excellent thread idea! So, I watched the first two season (I think) before I read the books, so that's what my knowledge base is at. Anywho... Ship #1 Dany and Jon - I picked up on this one almost since the first episode of season 1. Maybe because it's as close to trope as anything in ASOIAF can be, the "main boy" and "main girl" getting together. Of course most of what is happened since then really bends that trope. But anyways, I agree most with you. I think season 7 will be the setup for the marriage alliance between these two. We might see them meet in the very last episode, if we do see them together. Romantically speaking, although this will most likely be a marriage alliance first, I do see them developing romantic feeling toward each other. Tyrion's words to Dany regarding Daario not being the first nor the last man to love her are important. Ship #2 Sansa and Littlefinger - I think Sansa will lead him on in order to maintain his trust and see what he's plotting because she KNOWS he's plotting something. Jon becoming king messes with Littlefingers plans to be king. However, I think at the moment when Littlefinger will want to seal the deal, she's going to stab him with the pointy end of a very sharp blade. And the world will rejoice. Ship #3 Sansa and Sandor - while there are pretty clear hints in the books about the connection between these two characters, there are very few in the series. A few hints in the first season when they were still together but after that there is nothing. So, I don't see this developing in the show, unless they meet up during the WFD, but I wouldn't bet on it. Ships #4 & #9 - I don't think so. We have gotten any hints of this in the show and I agree with your points regarding Sansa's focus next season. Also, I don't think Jon and Arya will meet up until season 8 and sadly I don't think it'll be what we all want it to be. Ship #5 - I agree with you on this. Ship #6 - Sadly, I don't think these two will see each other again. After Jaime kills Cersei, I don't think he will have long to live. Ship #7 - I actually do think that we will see Gendry again. He might be legitimized as a Baratheon in order to unite the Stormlands. I don't see Aray getting married but if it happens, it won't bother me. Ship #8 - I think this is more of a fatherly relationship for her. A father that matches her own bloodthurst. Ship #10 - Perhaps these two can unite against Dany, although, i think they will try to hit her separately.

I might be in the minority but I don't think (or particularly want) Arya to be romantically involved with Gendry (or anyone for that matter). I think many people took Gendry's "you would be my lady" line the wrong way. To me that was about Arya being a highborn daughter of a great house, and Gendry a low born bastard. And that he could never be a member of her family. I think her feelings for Gendry and Sandor are completely platonic.
This scene from S1 reinforces my feelings on this:

I am 100% on board for a Jon and Dany ship. I have thought this would happen since the first time I read the books a long, long time ago. I do thikn Jon and Arya will meet again, but I don't see any chance of a relationship, other than brotherly, er, cousinly. I really don't want to see a Sansa/Littlefinger relationship, I hope he is killed long before that can come to fruition. I also really want a Jaime/Brienne relationship, they clearly have feelings for each other, both in the book and show.

Who do we think Tyrion will end up with? If anybody. Sansa, eventually, that is if he does end up with anyone. Actually, Sansa marries Littlefinger, inherits all of his brothels after she murders him and gives them to Tyrion as a part of their divorce package.

@nictarion staaaahp Arya x Gendry is liiiife!
Lol
I view Arya/Gendry similarly as I do Bran/Meera. I think both will happen in the future, but right now it's their friendships I want to see more of, or in Gendry's case, I just want to see him again.
My favorite ASOIAF ship is Jaime x Brienne, and it still hurts to know they'll probably never see each other again on the show.

I ship SanRion for quite a while now. ;o) After all, he was the kindest of the men so far. And she might have learned a trick or two from LF. I hope they'll be able to sort things out. Especially after the Ramsay incident.
I also ship show!Jaime and show!Brienne. It was the bathtub scene back in season 3 that set me on this ship.

You know Sansa is the one politically savvy enough to work on that deal, no offense to Jon but it's not his thing.

BTW, it was the wedding night in the books that set me on the SanRion ship. Especially this passage: "I am malformed, scarred, and small, but... abed, when the candles are blown out, I am made no worse than other men. In the dark, I am the Knight of Flowers. I am generous. Loyal to those who are loyal to me. I've proven I'm no craven. And I am cleverer than most, surely wits count for something. I can even be kind. Kindness is not a habit with us Lannisters, I fear, but I know I have some somewhere. I could be... I could be good to you." It's so sad and yet so beautiful and true. One of my favorite quotes tbh.

I also think that Tyrion and Sansa will eventually reunite, they both will have a big role to play in uniting Jon and Dany, plus tyrion and Jon had a cool budding friendship at the Wall.

And Tyrion will want to know how Jon came back to life when he finds out about the stabbing. He was near death as well when he got wounded at the battle of Blackwater Bay.
