Foreshadowing is a large part of the books. But what about the show?
There have been scenes that have clearly been foreshadowing, and then the events have taken place. But I think there are some that are even more subtle which may not have come to fruition yet. There are some that are obvious that it is apparent that they will be significant. A lot of these are from season 5. I think some were heavily missed due to the outrage over certain events and Dorne.
Off the top of my head, the ones that I think have more meaning but have not been proven yet:
1) Stannis discussing Jon's mother with Selyse. Now I think that this is a subtle hint that not everyone believes the story Ned told about Jon and think that there is more to it. To me that suggests that if Stannis has a sneaky suspicion that Ned wasn't being entirely truthful, I'm sure other people are going to think the same.
2) Maester Aemon saying "A Targaryan all alone in the world is a terrible thing." Jon then walks in. I initially, like pretty much most who knew thought this was a huge clue to R+L=J. I've changed my mind. I think it was a hint, but I think it had another meaning. I think it means that there will be only one survivng Targaryan at the end of the show. To me that is a huge hint that Dany won't survive. It also suggests to me that Jon is a legit Targaryan.
3) Littlefinger telling Sansa about the ToH in the Winterfell crypts. This was a fairly obvious one. Littlefinger has given away a clue to suggest that what Sansa has been told isn't necessarily the truth about Rhaegar and Lyanna. I think Littlefinger knows more about this and we are likely to find out what in season 7. I also think this might tie in with my first point that some people are a bit more suspicious of Ned's story. Littlefinger is likely to try anything, and I think he could well put 2 and 2 together.
4) Season 2 and Dany in the House of the Undying and her prophecies. I'm expecting the scene in the throne room to be almost re-enacted. I also think that the scene with Drogo suggests that when she goes beyond the wall, she will reunite with Drogo and Rhaego, ie she will die.
There were things that have been fulfilled, Ramsey telling Sansa about Jon. I found it really funny watching the prediction video's where people were convinced Sansa would go south to the Vale or Riverrun.
I haven't fully re-watched season 6 yet as I've not got all of the episodes. I'm sure there are plenty there to tell us of what is to come in the upcoming 2 seasons.
Can anyone else think of scenes that might me something different to what was originally thought?
I just need to clarify that I'm not anti Dany by my interpretation of the scenes which I think foreshadow her death in the show. I might be wrong. I will admit I decided not to get too attached to Dany after the HotU scene because if I did I'd be upset.
