"I'm off to see your father" gets to me every time. The music, Bran's pleading... Ser Rodrik was such a badass.

Remind me why they ever decided to introduce this stealing dragons subplot in Qarth and kill Irri off. Not that Qarth was an intriguing location besides the HotU chapter, but this didn't really improve Dany's storyline.

The only reason to steal the dragons is to get Dany into the HotU. But screaming, "Where are my dragons?" every 30 seconds does get old.

I hate to be that guy, but they should have followed the book as far as getting Dany into the HotU. I understand they were trying to liven up the Qarth storyline, but I think it was a pretty big fail. The HotU itself I've come around on over the years.

She keeps refusing their invitations.

I think it was to add intrigue into the midseason rather than just having Qarth only liven up in the finale after nothing happening leading up to it. Which imo makes sense. And the dragons were very vulnerable to theft at that time anyways, so this is a problem I never had with s2. Plus it riled the unsullied up a fuckton which is always funny. To me that was never one of Qarth's weaker points. The "my dreams come true" scene on the other hand...

I guess another solution would have been for them to spread THotU visions across two episodes (Episode 7 and 8) and then have Barristan Selmy arrive in the finale, but then I liked his reintroduction in Astapor so I wouldn't change that. I also think that Dany should have had a scene with Quaithe.

I also think that Dany should have had a scene with Quaithe. I think some of the writing was fine. I thought it was fine in the episode D and D wrote there, 205, 207, 208 and 210. But Vanessa Taylor's moments in 204 ("I invoke Summai") and 206 ("my dreams come true!" and "where are my dragons") were very very very very very inescapably weak.

I'm fine with "my dreams come true." It's a nice parallel to Bran.

I'm fine with "my dreams come true." It's a nice parallel to Bran. Maybe the line could've been read well. But she didn't there alas. I got where they were going with that scene. Having her as the beggar queen to show her like her brother and at her lowest so that her moment at the end of the season would have more impact. But the scene itself was very forced as was Emilia's indignance in it. The Spice King and Ducksauce served as decent comic relief during it but didn't make up for the ham-acting going on all through it. Probably Emilia's weakest scene in the whole of the show. She's improved greatly since.

Speaking of the episode, I guess I'll watch it. I'm kind of tired though so I might tap out and continue it later. We'll see.

Generally I think her and Kit's weaker moments early on in the show were due to their being straight out of drama school and more theatrically trained than on-camera trained. As well as their characters being written too young for the actors. That was fixed imo when s4 rolled around and both of them brought stronger chops to the table.

Emilia was better in S1 than S2. It was the shitty writing I blame.
