“There’s always going be an urge — the characters who maybe will survive — there’s always going to be this temptation to keep doing it; to do the spin-off show or do the sequel show and everything. And I think HBO might well do one.” -D&Dwww.inquisitr.com/4056357/game-of-thrones-cast-spin-off-showrunners/First we've heard of a sequel series, hmmm. This is a spoiler that not everybody dies. Oh, I don't know if I like the idea of a sequel. I would like to see an ending with closure. A sequel series would have to "undo" that to create conflict and by doing so, would untie the closure. It's what The Force Awakens did to Return of the Jedi (and I loved TFA BTW). Prequels are tricky because we already have the ending (GoT Season 1-8) and storylines have to be pigeonholed especially if it's been written out. Still there is so much content there in TWOIAF, there has been a relevant subplot they could built a franchise on. I hope they pick something pre-Aegon and something they dabbed into just a little so far, to really give us a blank slate.

^ That's the problem, yes. I mean, I suppose if we get a sequel that concentrates on some minor character and their life after all this.. As much as I love the show and the world I really do just want to see the ending and have closure for all my precious ones.

Robert's Rebellion would make a great miniseries, even though most of y'all wouldn't want it. It would be significantly cheaper, than for example Aegon's Conquest. Who wouldn't want to see prime Robert wreck people with his massive warhammer?

As much as I love the show and the world I really do just want to see the ending and have closure for all my precious ones. The only way I'd want to see a sequel series is if it's much further in the future and say, the next generation after our favorite young characters have survived and grown old themselves. I'm definitely ready for closure on the main cast of characters and honestly don't want to see more "Game of Thrones" in the same vein as the story we're in now at all. I don't really see them going that direction though since GRRM hasn't written any future settings for Westeros, but has plenty of past material to draw from.

Dunk and Egg. And it's not even close. I love the novellas almost as much as ASoIaF tbh. It also lends itself perfectly to a miniseries type format. Aging them up, or even recasting could be a bit tricky, but it's not impossible. Rome handled it well with Octavian.

The best would be an anthology series. Each season covers a different story with different actors (e.g. one season could be Robert's Rebellion).

I dunno why I didn't just combine the thread and the poll before, but this will work better.

I also wouldn't mind a spin-off series about a random House that's been a show-only House, like House Mazin. They could play with the timeline (maybe start of the series is after Baelor) and have certain characters (other Northern houses) make cameos. It wouldn't be an epic storyline or sorts, but we could grow close to a new house and how they survived losing their Warden, first KotN and how they got involved with the second KoTN to BoTB. GoT is a brilliant ensemble, but maybe the next story should be even more personal about staying alive and relevant.

I really like the idea of an Anthology series which can focus on any number of things and is not shoehorned into any specific storyline. Of course this all depends on what exactly HBO has rights over, I don't think we've ever learned what are the parameters of the filming rights.

I'm not against an anthology series, but it could be pretty complicated too. It's hard to develop new characters in a brand new setting every year. I think they need to build something larger than that personally.

The biggest benefit of an anthology series is that the writers could create a self-contained story without having to plan years ahead. IMHO that's actually easier to do. Also, if one season is not that great it wouldn't ruin what came before nor would it have any negative impact on what's still to come. I've enjoyed miniseries and anthology series a lot in recent years and I think that format would be ideal for something like a GoT spinoff because it would give the writers many opportunities to tell different stories. They could even have A-listers in the cast because they'd be much more likely to do a season of a Thrones-spinoff if it was just a one-season commitment (see True Detective, Fargo, Big Little Lies... etc.)

It can't be stated enough how risky it is to produce a spin-off from a beloved, hugely popular series and have it live up to the original in any way. If they can't produce something that could hold a candle to GoT then i'm honestly not interested, and I'll be trepidatious no matter what. I agree that a Westerosi anthology series would easily be the lowest risk option, with the highest potential for reward. Even a bad season could be made up for, and wouldn't taint the original series too much.
Dunk and Egg could work okay with a particularly attuned writer, but it would inevitably be compared to GoT in ways that it couldn't escape from, since it's a far more intimate story. Plus they would have to absolutely nail the casting, which would be difficult.

It would be good to do something on the smaller scale, with George's involvement and sort of these road trip movies are popular. It has that mark of Game of Thrones or George RR Martin so marketing will be good for it. People will give it a shot. Dunk&Egg is perfect smaller scale, more intimate and quite an interesting story. They can use stuff from GOT production. Not as expensive as Dance of the Dragons, Blackfyre Rebellion or Robert's Rebellion where we know key events but I understand the appeal - as we have hear the stories about Rhaegar, Lyanna, Elia and others. Dunk&Egg or something with dragons.
