So far I can't seem to play it on my HBO service even though the second episode is listed there and seems to be available for watching.

It's not on my cable provider's site. Or anywhere I can find illegally.

The ridiculous tantrums I'm having now because I can't find it anywhere online speak to the quality of the show.

I got to watch it eventually, luckily they released it early here too. I'm so intrigued by this show.

Finally saw it. Which makes the wait for 103 all the longer. Which btw is directed by Neil Marshall...

Oh, there is a thread for it. Sorry, I already posted in the TV series thread. I watched the first two episodes and I liked it. But I'm a bit confused as to what exactly is going on, but that's probably intentional.

Nictarion - Very glad you started this thread.
Just a couple of early ideas: all of the black and white, from the opening credits to the meat of show's first two episodes create a natural tension. This is obvious here, and in the western genre generally, symbolized by the white hat, black hat trope in every film and television western from She Wore a Yellow Ribbon to Bonanza. Black and white representations come from a taproot in the western genre. This root is old, gnarled and deep, a part of the US consciousness. It is the attempt to tame the wild. The harsh, yet achingly beautiful landscape of Utah's Monument Valley, was the back bone of John Ford' westerns. So that landscape appears here, through a gorgeous panorama in the similarly romanticized depiction of The Old West, in Westworld.
I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't get too particular about the black and white theme presented so far in Wetword, but even in the trailer, you can see this tension play out. Black and white seem perfectly articulated in the show's player piano, the ebony and ivory (sorry) create canned music, but not of the old west period. It is mechanically tinkling out a more contemporary ditty.
Finally, brace yourselves for some quotes from, most notably, Shakespeare, the undisputed king of pithy juxtaposition.

I just watched the first two episodes, very interesting so far. The idea of your creations turning against you is not a new one, hello Frankenstein. But I like that the setting has been changed from the normally futuristic to the Western. I also like your observation bliss with regards to the black and white. You see it with the man all dress in black who goes about scalping people. You also see it Ruth the two friends, one picked a black hat the other a white one. I'll have to pay more attention to see the other color juxtaposition. It also looks like they'll be moving the story to the petroleum boom. Should be interesting.

Alrighty then, I have now watched the 2nd episode, which I actually liked better than the first episode. Unfortunately at this point it is really not working for me overall. I will say that Thandie Newton is amazing though. She switches back and forth from appearing human to appearing humanoid so seamlessly that she's spooky. Last week I thought Evan Rachel Wood as Delores was amazing, but this week went to Thandie. While aspects of it are interesting, there is a lot that seems a bit too disjointed, which I am sure is done specifically in order to retain interest, but at some point you need to lay a story out there, warts and all. Basically I'm done with the appetizer, so where's the meat and potatoes? I also keep expecting a dinosaur to start peeking around the corner any moment ala Jurassic Park, saying to the hosts, "Come on guys, we can overthrow them," or at least Sally Field can get on top of the bar and hold up a Union sign or something in order to unite the hosts. Anyway I always enjoy seeing Ed Harris, but I would like to see a little more story there. I assume he has something to do with the little incident from 30 years ago, since he has been coming to the park for 30 years, but I want something more than a hint that something happened then.
I just think you need to have a more obvious story, involving something? someone? somewhere? anything? anyone? anywhere? The great thing about Game of Thrones IMO is that you always knew where you were going. You just did not know how you were going, or with whom, or who you might meet, or who would die along the way. Nevertheless, everyone was ultimately marching towards the throne no matter how many obstacles Martin threw in your path. Right now with Westworld, I feel like I need something overall just to hold things together while we wait to see which direction to go in. (Heck maybe it will break out into the Russian Revolution, while the hostworkers of the world unite.)
I'm sorry if this post seems a bit all over the place. Frankly it seems a bit like ...well Westworld itself.

It also looks like they'll be moving the story to the petroleum boom. Should be interesting. I was wondering about that. I thought it was an oil rig, then I noticed it had a cross, so I thought it was some weird looking church from the Wicker Man. Were they saying that oil is God? Then I felt like James Dean might appear and strike oil like he did in Giant. I don't know. Like I said in my other post, the show is just everywhere. By the way, are the people that work with Anthony Hopkins real or is he completely avoiding payroll taxes by employing only robots?
