I watched a few random episodes from some of the earlier seasons tonight. This show may be shit now, but man ... I remembered why I used to love it so much. Lori's death especially is so goddamn effective still, it absolutely killed me. I honestly did not expect it to still hit me so hard after so many years, I cried my eyes out. And I know Lori was not the best written character on the show, but a scene like this really makes you forget about all the inconsistencies and the bad writing, the acting was so fucking good and it's just such a grim, gut wrenching scene. Incredibly powerful stuff. I'm lamenting the show The Walking Dead used to be. It's lost its soul.

I hated Lori so much, then when she died I felt absolutely terrible. It was really well done, and I have a better appreciation of her now than I did then.

I never hated Lori, but she was really horribly inconsistent in Season 2. It almost felt like the writers were intentionally trying to make her as unlikeable and incapable as possible. What little we got to see of her in Season 3 before she was killed off made me appreciate her a lot more. I felt genuinely bad for her because of the way Rick and Carl treated her, and her death is still the most powerful scene in all of Walking Dead, in my opinion. Also Sarah Wayne Callies is beautiful and an amazing actress.

Now I'm mad all over again over how TWD has become I'm still so invested in all the characters.

So what does everyone thing of the big rumor That Carl dies in the mid season finale? Carl needs to get a haircut it irritates the shit out of me i don't know how much it would affect me if he died. Even though the actor doesn't really connect to me at all, he is rick's son and has been on the show since episode 1. i would be pretty devastated The first two episodes have been OKAY. But why did they not take out Neegan in the first episode. He was standing out in the open for like 10 minutes. SOMEONE JUST SNIPER HIM AND TAKE HIM OUT FFS

So what does everyone thing of the big rumor That Carl dies in the mid season finale? Oh, that's the first I've heard of such a rumor I stay clear of spoilers with this one and I stopped following pretty much all online activity with the show a few years ago. But I like it, it's actually something I've been thinking might happen because he could never carry the show. Carl can carry the comics but not the show, the show dies with Rick. And I know the boy wants to go get an education as he should so it would be natural for him to withdraw.

I was in the mood for some TWD, so I started rewatching S1 over Halloween, but then I ended up binging not only S1 but S2 too. Honestly, I will never understand why people criticise S2 so much. They call it slow and boring and I'm like: in every single S2 episode something substantial happens, which cannot be said for later seasons. There are no boring bottle episodes either and every character appears in every episode which makes it so much more enjoyable than what we have now. The pacing is actually FASTER and better than literally any other season. I really don't get it. Furthermore, the way Shane was written and acted was amazing. I loved his slow descent into immorality. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. There is so much interesting conflict between all of these characters. I miss Shane, Dale, Andrea, Glenn, Hershel and yes, even Lori, whom I never hated. I always thought the hatred directed towards this character was exaggerated af, very much similar to the unfounded hatred Skyler from Breaking Bad received. But that's a different story. Anyway, for me S2 might actually be the best TWD season.

Season 2 is my favourite too, but it has its fair share of stupid moments. It's still great television though, especially compared to some of the later seasons of this show. Seriously, I tried watching the first episode of Season 8, but it was so mind numbingly boring, I couldn't sit through one episode. Makes you kind of sad to think about how great this show started out, and how unwatchable it is now. I get why Lori is a controversial character. I like her, but I totally understand why a lot of people don't. She is a very self-righteous character and the writing for her in Season 2 was all over the place, especially in regard to the whole Shane situation. I don't blame her for sleeping with Shane when she thought Rick was dead, but throughout the season, she was very manipulative and she was playing them against each other. Whether it was deliberate or not doesn't really matter. She told Rick that Shane was dangerous, but only a few episodes later, she told Shane that the baby might be his. Why? Just to create even more conflict between them? And then she was mad at Rick for killing Shane, it just seemed so terribly fickle and inconsistent. That was probably the moment where people really started to hate her. Again, I love Lori and I think Sarah Wayne Callies gave her a layer of depth that perhaps wasn't there in the writing. Her death scene in Season 3 is still by far the most powerful moment in all of Walking Dead. But I do understand why a lot of people don't like her, the writing for her could have been a lot better. Skyler hate on the other hand I will never understand. Not only is she one of the best written and most complex characters on Breaking Bad, but Anna Gunn's performance was nothing short of spectacular throughout the whole series. It's funny that it always seems to be the wife/mother character that gets the most hate in these super popular shows. Lori, Skyler, Catelyn. Of course I love all three of them.

I think even those who hated Lori felt awful when she actually died. That scene was heartbreaking. and if the spoiler about Carl dying is true it's going to make it even sadder in retrospect considering she called him "the best thing I ever did."

It's funny that it always seems to be the wife/mother character that gets the most hate in these super popular shows. Lori, Skyler, Catelyn. Of course I love all three of them. To be fair though, the Lori-hate started in S1 and I remember people full-on loathing her during 2A too. I don't think that that particular moment was the main reason. I just think people are way too extreme with their opinions sometimes. It's either adoration or hate. There is no middle ground for some people. It should be possible to disagree with one choice the character makes without hating everything about them. And lbr, some of it was just plain misogyny (as it often is with more feminine characters like Lori, Andrea, Catelyn, Sansa, Dany or Skyler). When a man does something morally-ambiguous or stupid, he is seen as an antihero or "interesting character". When a woman does the same thing, people call her annoying or a dumb bitch. Ngl, it pisses me off when people dare to criticise Catelyn but not the actual villains like Littlefinger. Or Dany but not Stannis. Or Lori but not Shane. Or Skyler but not Walt. Oh well, it's best to ignore those voices. But apart from that little inconsistency you pointed out, which to me wasn't even that big of a deal, because I kinda understood why Lori did it, I really have to emphasise once again how amazingly well Season 2 of this show was written. There are a lot of great episodes, especially in the second half. I almost forgot how sharp this show's writing used to be. The way they explored nihilism and the decline of morality in an uncivilised society was spot-on. Damn it, what happened?

I continued my binge-marathon and I have to say that S4 is probably the second-best season to me. It has some stinkers, particularly the two episodes about the Governor, but the season also contains some of the best episodes ever. I particularly loved these ones: 4x04 "Indifference" - Great Carol episode. I enjoyed her interactions with Rick here. Carol is a stone cold bitch in this, so very fitting title. 4x08 "Too Far Gone" - It's still one of the most action-packed and effective episodes. Hershel's death. 4x09 "After" - This Carl-centric episode is the reason I started liking the character. I love how the show made a post-apocalyptic coming-of-age episode out of this. The Michonne-scenes were also pretty good. 4x14 "The Grove" - Probably one of the most iconic episodes of TWD ever. It's a masterpiece IMO. 4x16 "A" - Very suspenseful finale. S4 had a lot of decent episodes, but those were the standouts to me.
