This is easily the best sp. Lots of great stuff, especially the opening with with Ice, and the ending with probably what are my favorite Arya/Hound scenes. "Wtf a Lommy?"

I heartily agree with everyone so far who has asserted that "Two Swords" is the best season premiere that Game of Thrones has delivered to date. I think it's an exceptional hour of TV, and a strong start to what I consider to be the show's most consistently stellar season. Overall, I give Season 6 the slight edge as my favorite season because I think that the peaks are higher, but Season 4 probably has what I would consider to be the highest baseline of greatness. We get off to a flying start here and just keep soaring. In addition to what I think is a cracking, eminently quotable script, Benioff and Weiss do a great job directing this hour, just as they did for Season 3's "Walk of Punishment" (though this one gets the edge). I can understand why they may not wish to step behind the camera again for the rest of the series - they have more than enough other responsibilities to deal with, and an exceptional roster of talented full-time directors to choose from. But if they did, I would be happy to see them try their hand at it again. The introduction of Oberyn Martell is perhaps the most successful introduction of any new character in the show since we met most of the major characters in the pilot - certainly since the debut of the Dragonstone crew in Season 2's "The North Remembers" (which, incidentally, is my second-favorite season premiere). I love the way that they're able to convey everything we need to know about the character through his introductory sequence - his confident display of experienced hedonism in the brothel, his dangerous nature and prodigious martial skill as exemplified by his lightning-quick (dare I say Viper-like) reflexes, and his pointed conversation with Tyrion in which he bluntly lays his true objective in coming to King's Landing on the table. It's masterfully done, and an improvement on the novels. (I'll talk more about this when we get to "Mockingbird", but I consider the decision to transpose Oberyn's monologue about meeting Tyrion as a baby from their initial conversation to Tyrion's cell at his lowest moment to be one of the most wildly successful adaptation choices that the show has made to date, elevating both scenes). This is a great episode for Jaime as well. Being dragged through the literal and/or metaphorical mud tends to bring out the best in the Kingslayer. All of the scenes in which we see him struggle to readjust to life in the capital and suffer through the undue expectations and insults heaped on him by his father, his sister/lover, his king/son, and his hard-won traveling companion/conscience are frustrating and satisfying in the best possible way. I agree with everyone that Kit Harington does an exceptional job in this episode, particularly in the scene where Jon reflects on the loss of his brother and how he was jealous of Robb his entire life (there's a nice callback to the last time they saw one another in "The Kingsroad" as well). I don't share a lot of the issues that many people have with Kit's performances in the early seasons, but I do agree that he has steadily improved with each passing year, and that the leap he takes between Season 3 and Season 4 is particularly impressive. I know that some people have issues with the way that the Thenns are portrayed, but I've always loved Styr's introduction. The easy way he saunters into the frame with that perpetually predatory smirk on his face makes it clear that these aren't the same rough, but ultimately relatable Free Folk that we've gotten accustomed to. These guys are the Wildling Beserkers, and they are the baddest of bad news. Also, the harsh and bombastic "Thenns" track is one of my favorites - those rousing drumbeats always get my blood pumping. Also important to that scene - I also love how effectively Rose Leslie manages to convey Ygritte's fierce anger and thinly-concealed heartbreak as she sharpens the arrows that she intends to use on Jon - but will ultimately be unable to loose. God, I miss her. This is the hour that Rory McCann's Sandor Clegane went from merely a great character to a damn legend, and a deserving one. Outside of the sequences involving major battles and the deaths of major characters, I'm not sure that there's a scene that's become more iconic - at least among hardcore fans - than the Hound and Arya taking on the Lannister soldiers in the tavern. Not only is the action scene masterfully done, but the endless stream of quotable lines that the Hound delivers have taken on a life of their own. Never underestimate the power of chicken! And the two smiles that Arya offers at the end of this episode are perfect. The dark, fascinated one that creeps on to her face after she stabs Polliver through the throat and watches him drown in his own blood is terrifying. The satisfied one that she wears as she rides off into the war-torn countryside on her newly-won horse is exhilarating, and dare I say, hopeful. What better way to illustrate the dichotomy inherent to the story of our burgeoning little assassin than that? I could go on - I haven't talked about Dany or Sansa or Tyrion yet - but I'd say that's more than enough for now.

So glad to have you join us for the Re-Watch Season 4 discussions jared! BRAVO summary and write-up! I definitely agree Oberyn's introduction was strong and instantly won him a huge fan-base following from that very first scene. Pedro nailed it.

So not a lot to add, I agree this is probably the best SP. Now I have a slightly different take on ice. Ice has it's hilt removed first, and there is a well known quote. That Dalla once relayed to Jon "The Horned Lord once said that sorcery is a sword without a hilt. There is no safe way to grasp it." It's a magic sword, and then we see ice become two swords, to glowing, red hot swords. The horned lord for many fans is heavily connected to the Night's King. Now this will connect with needle later in some aspects of course. As a new Stark sword to fight back with. So lets take Arya and Sansa for a sec and yes they have their own sun and moon symbolism in fact that is where the quote derives from. Now Arya is getting help from the Hound who is not a Knight but sort of is, and the Hound has his share of drinking problems, he will help Arya and she will eventually retrieve Needle right? Sansa will get help from a Knight who is not much a night, has a drinking problem but she receives a weapon from him as well one that will be used to help kill Joff. We know what happens to the Hound and Ser Dantos by the end. In the books Ice becomes to sort of red swords by the way but gosh darn it the color is not exactly right though I think it could be a general theme being applied here. There is also a transformation of sorts with the idea of ice and fire. Because the sword of course is named ice and it literally becomes fire. And of course there is one other famous moment Dany is also in blue here which is nice, and will also see Marg in blue. A blue rose, just not the right blue rose. Though maybe Marg meets Jon and he is like oh you are so amazing and... Ooops, Finally with Tyrion and Oberyn Martell, we get a set of twins though one is shorter than the other. No they don't look alike of course, but both are second sons, and Oberyn has a son Sigil and Tyrion has a golden lion sigil and even in the books the Lion can be associated with night and day.

I wrote my notes two weeks ago and now I don’t feel like writing a cohesive blurb. So, here they are in bullet form.
- I liked the cold opening along with the music; it gave what was happening a sort of ominous/melancholic feel.
- We see little bits of foreshadowing here and there like Tywin guessing that he would not see Casterly Rock again.
-Although, they were ignored in later seasons we do see a few of the Dornish Houses as they parade into King’s Landing.
-We get a mention from Oberyn of Rhaegar running off with Lyanna and of course we hear about the deaths of Elia and her two children.
-Sansa and lemon cakes
-Jon reminiscing about Robb, so sad.
-After being judged by the NW panel on asks “Am I free to go” to which Maester Aemon answers “None of us are free, we are men of the Nights Watch.”
-We take a look at the White Book. Arthur Dayne is mentioned as Sword of the Morning” and Ser Duncan has four pages of deeds. The Jonffrey makes fun of Jaime and says “someone forgot to write all your great deeds” to which Jamie answered “There is still time” and perhaps there is Jamie, and perhaps there is.
-Daario gives Dany the Bouquet of Symbolism (dusky rose (blue rose) = heals fevers). He also says to her that if he wants the people to follow her she needs to become part of their world.
