I thought Lagertha taking out Aslaug would be more of a fuck yeah type moment for me after all these years, but I really just felt bad for Aslaug tbh. Astrid needs to die asap. She's a horrible character. Ragnar and Ecbert's scenes together were pretty good. Trying to enjoy the last bits of Fimmel we have left. i srsly can't believe they really pushed the aslaug bewitching ragnar thing. that's just insulting to those of us who remember s1-2. if they wanted wanted to bring bad magic into it why not focus on aslaug letting li'l siggy die while she was high on harbard's magic dick. but no, it was all about her "stealing" ragnar and only erlandur 2.0 cares about harbard, but not bc of his poor niece, just mommy favoring ivar. at least aslaug got a good viking funeral like earl haraldson did and they didn't waste a gory death on her, which i was afraid of. astrid is the worst. it's like they wanna make it clear that ragnar was the love of lagertha's life by giving her shitty love interests but they could do that easier by just leaving her single. ecbert eating dinner with ragnar in a cage and having drunken theological discussions with him was the best. kween crazy's fatherless fake-viking son goes on the list of the show's random and pointless plotpoints. Tbh I don't think anyone remembers Björn's daughter. Not even Björn. I don't think we ever got a reaction from him. I also think that the show wasn't trying to say that Aslaug bewitched Ragnar, just that Lagertha believes so because she's in denial or something like that. The dynamic between Ragnar and Ecbert is the best thing in the show. I really hope that's the last we see of Magnus. To me it seemed like Aethelwulf sent him to die. "Tell them you are Ragnar's son and they will take care of you". Sure. The commoners will probably kill him.

oh, i don't think the audience is meant to think ragnar was bewitched, but in-show it was treated srsly to the point of ubbe wondering if his mother was a witch after he just tried to avenge her. i meant it was insulting to me, a person who remembers the first two seasons, bc lagertha clearly wasn't in any denial when that shit actually went down. she put the blame on ragnar, and was worried about losing him if she couldn't give him more sons before he even met aslaug. it's not at all like with kalf where she told him from the start she'd kill him but waited and fucked him til he forgot her threats. killing aslaug 20+ yrs after the fact was so out of the blue that i think she needed a more recent motive but it was all about ragnar and sudden accusations of him being bewitched. looking around at comments on other sites, people keep assuming lagertha had other motives but they're reaching for things not shown at all. like that it was about insuring bjorn would inherit kattegat even tho bjorn is a grown ass man and shouldn't need mommy to fight battles for him behind his back, but it's clear lagertha was doing it for herself. lagertha called her a witch in private and never offered any real reasons. and seeing as how bjorn and lagertha don't know or care how his daughter died (her short existence being another pointless plotpoint), i don't see how lagertha would see aslaug as dangerous and evil. this showdown just deserved better set-up. like how ragnar and rollo were set for rivalry/conflict from the pilot but their last big fight in france was about what rollo had done recently, not just rehashing shit from s1.
from what aethelwulf said about there being animals inside, i take it that it was ecbert who wanted magnus dead once he decided there was no use for him if he wasn't ragnar's son.

I thought they nailed Ragnar's death. Despite some of the later seasons missteps (4A), seeing some of those flashbacks reminded me how much I loved this show in the earlier seasons. I thought the music was on point in his final scene too. Travis Fimmel will be sorely missed.

And you can tell how good the casting is, Ludwig and the new Ubbe both look a lot like Young Ragnar. Ivar must have already become Dad's fave as well as Mom's in their too-short time together, bc he was the only one of Aslaug's sons in the flashbacks. Guess they have to kill time in Kattegatt waiting for Bjorn and co. to return so that all 5 of the sons can invade England together. Lagertha's safe but I'm praying Ivar at least kills Astrid. Were we supposed to know who the one-eyed guy in the boat was? Just a human representation of Odin?

Maybe she'll offer to be Lagertha's champion. Definitely seemmed like it was supposed to be Odin.

No idea who he's playing, but I agree he was great as Henry Tudor. He was pretty much the only reason I watched that show.

Loved him as Henry the VIII It was speculated back in October that he would play Alfred the Great. that seems most likely but as i think the current ragnarsons actors are meant to be permanent, it's kinda ridic to me to a guy twice their age playing adult alfred, a character who is younger than all the ragnarsons.

I loved this episode. Seeing them in a completely different culture was really interesting. I just want to see them act a little more like, you know...Vikings. Other than Bjorn and Rollo it felt very off to me. Floki is all of a sudden tolerant of other religions? Ok. I could have done without the Helga/kid stuff too.

It felt really off to me, but I guess the implications were that Floki saw the muslims were so concentrated on praying to their god that he recognized the same zealotry he has in them. And why didn't there seem to be any guards in the port? The vikings just walked into the city with their weapons ready.

It felt really off to me, but I guess the implications were that Floki saw the muslims were so concentrated on praying to their god that he recognized the same zealotry he has in them. That was the part I really didn't buy. The lack of representations of god is an actual difference btwn Islam and other religions but I can't believe they would be so into praying that they just wouldn't care if these foreign invaders walked in and just fucking beheaded their holy man right in front of them. I'd think religious zealotry would mean not taking kindly to heathen invasion/holy man beheading. It's def not how Floki would respond in their shoes. Also, Helga wants a new kid so her idea is to forcibly adopt these foreign girl they just orphaned? Stop trying to make a female Athelstan happen, show, it went terribly in 4a. I liked the ending with Odin and the ravens reaching out to the sons, and I liked that Aethelwulf at least recognized Ivar as a problem, but the rest of it could be pretty annoying.
