9 out of 10
One of the best opening episodes and the writing, acting, and pacing were all spot on. A few low seconds, but they were acceptable. This season is going to move rapid fire, and if we blink we're going to miss something.

I gave it an 8. I consider that a very high rating. I did think it was an excellent opening to this season, but I like to leave room at the top for later episodes.

I gave it an 8. I don't think it was as good as Two Swords or Winter is Coming, but I would put it in third as far as premieres go. My one critique for now at least is I think they could have given some of Sam's screen time to Bran. The Jon and Sansa scenes were much better than I was expecting, valid points on both ends and as everyone said it's how a lot of siblings would interact when they disagree. Dany at Dragonstone was good, I do like how there was no dialogue from when she landed on the beach until walking to the Throne Room. It was an emotional moment for her and she was immersed coming back to where she was born. Also, I really like how they showed Sandor's compassionate side and digging a grave for the father and daughter he said would be dead when winter comes. A great character moment for him, especially coming from someone who was often viewed as violent and belligerent by the BwB, and now he's changed.

It's an 8 for me. A high score for a premiere.
Le Good:
* Arya bringing winter to the Freys. * Euron has really improved over his flat self from last season. * The dead army marching. * The Hound scenes were amazing. The best of the episode, IMHO. * Jon and Sansa scenes were tense and well acted. * Sam reading about the dragonglass dagger was a very nice touch. * Dany is finally in Westeros!!
Le Not So Good:
* Jaime and Cersei were a bit meh. * I couldn't overcome my dislike for Ed Sheeran to really like his scene with Arya. * Sam's montage was a bit too long.

Yeah I'm sure all you Bran fans are little disappointed. My brother was complaining.

Solid opener! I gave it an 8. While I love the Freys dying and the lines Arya got to say, I did find the entire thing + her meeting with Ed Sheeran of all people really fan servicey. I also can't believe how long that shit montage went. I loved everything else. I think Sansa was completely out of line but I like that it wasn't a huge deal between her and Jon. Their banter juxtaposed with Cersei and Jaime's was interesting. I loved Euron's pot shots when he met Cersei too. Sandor was amazing. "Who do you think you're fooling with that top knot? Bald twat." That's one of my new favorite lines. I'm glad we got to see Bran and Meera and Edd even if it was for a second. And holy shit that White Walker army! I'm genuinely surprised at the amount of time they spent in Oldtown. That's way more than I expected.

10/10, probably the best opener in the series, I don't have any complaints, eagerly awaiting episode 2.

9. Great stuff! King's Landing and Winterfell were my favourite parts of the episode. The interactions between Sansa and Jon were really great, absolutely love their dynamic. Sansa is just <3! Love how Littlefinger is finally depicted as the pathetic little man that he is. Also, you guys can ship Dany and Jon all you want, I ship Brienne and Tormund. Make it happen, GoT Gods. King's Landing was wonderful. I love the panicked look Jaime gave Cersei when Euron suggested that she should try killing her brother. That was gold! Pilou has always been a hottie, it's not his fault they made him look like an unwashed doofus in Season 6. That beard still needs some serious trimming, though. Oldtown was okay. A little bit too long for my taste, and I really did not need to see the chamberpot scrubbing. Lesson learned, never eat breakfest while watching Game of Thrones. Sam sneaking into the forbidden section of the library was SO Harry Potter. I half expected him to pull out a book with a screaming face in it. Loved Arya's scene with the soldiers. Ed Sheeran's cameo was pretty cool I guess, I always enjoy it when they sing on this show. This was such a sweet, human moment for Arya, we need more of those ... and we actually heard her laugh, that was awesome. The Frey scene on the other hand I did not like. I thought it was cheap, and it didn't give me any satisfaction, but I'm glad that whole storyline is over and done with. Without Stoneheart, it has been seriously frustrating me, so I'm glad we're moving on from it. Don't really know how I feel about the Sandor bit. It was an okay scene, and I love the little nod at the grave digger stuff from the books. The acting was good, too. The soundtrack during Dany's arrival at Dragonstone was chill inducing, also Dany's fabulous new costume. So good. <3 So many people were called a cunt in this episode.

In the other thread I made the point that they went out of their way to show this isn't Harry Potter with that montage, but it still retains some of that feel. He's a warped Harry.

9. In some respects it was functioning the same way that prior premieres have; re-establishing things, functioning as setup or a piece-mover. But this one had a flow and a continuity between scenes that other premieres have not. Once more there was more thematic connection between scenes than one normally gets in a GoT premiere. Of course there were still semi-clunky "remember this?" moments. But they were contrasted with some great scenes that seemed written with one another in mind rather than just for the purpose of kicking off storylines. Two Swords/401 still beats it of course but other than that this is probably the best season-opener.

8. Some problems with Arya's scenes but on the whole it was very good.
