I can't believe we haven't done this yet. I feel like we've voted and ranked just about everything else. Feel free to rank all 5 books after voting.
I personally go back and forth between AGoT and ASoS as my favorite. I'm going with AGoT atm.
AGoT>ASoS>ADwD>ACoK>AFfC

I pretty much have you same list but I switched ACOK with ADWD. House of the Undying takes the edge. 1. AGOT 2. ASOS 3. ACOK 4. ADWD 5. AFFC

I think they are evenly matched books both have their good and great things but they also have so serious not so great things.

I think I need to reread the books. I read them once six years ago. I barely remember them. I used to rank them this way: 1. ASOS 2. AGOT 3. ADWD 4. ACOK 5. AFFC But I'm older now, I know more about literature, my English is significantly better than it used to be and I'm very familiar with the characters and the story now. So I think I need to reread them to see if anything has changed for me.

My ranking, plus my three favourite POVs from each book.
1. A Storm of Swords (Catelyn, Sansa, Jaime) 2. A Game of Thrones (Catelyn, Dany, Ned) 3. A Feast for Crows (Brienne, Cersei, Jaime) 4. A Clash of Kings (Catelyn, Sansa, Tyrion) 5. A Dance with Dragons (Theon, Dany, Jon)

Ive been waiting for him to fucking finish Winds so I could time a re-read to finish as that drops but alas... I used the combined reading order of Feast and Dance last time I read the series and much preferred them that way but I'll seperate them for the list. GOT>SOS>ADWD>COK>FFC Thrones is really the only definite one for me. The pacing is perfect, the shorter chapters and tighter focus make it the most enjoyable to read. Plus Ned.

One thing that never changes for me is AFfC in the last spot. There's some great chapters, but I don't like that the big 3 aren't in it (except for Jon in Sam's POV ofc). I read the books in 2011 after watching the first season I can't even imagine having waited 11 years between ASoS and ADwD to find out what's going on with Dany, Jon, and Tyrion. I guess Sansa fans are going through that right now. It's been 12 years and counting since her last chapter. And I thought the sample GRRM released was pretty weak tbh.

It's actually a funny coincidence that Nic has created this thread now, because I've been wanting to start rereading AGOT for the last couple of days, but I've always been too tired before going to sleep. Maybe tonight. If I do it, I'll open a thread.

I just finished my fifth time through, and started number 6. Feast is still my favorite.

I vote for AGOT although ASOS & ACOK are great too. It depends on the POV I'm reading. After someone pointed out some good stuff in Brienne's chapters in AFFC, and rereading those chapters, I enjoy that book a little more.

1. AGOT 2. ASOS 3. ACOK 4. AFFC 5. ADWD
Tough decision between AGOT and ASOS, but The Prologue, Bran's Dream, Ned's ToJ fever dream, Syrio, Yoren and especially Martin's description of the woods north of the wall, the Godswood at WF, and the crypts at WF always bring me back to AGOT as #1.
ACOK rings in at #3 because Jaqen H'Ghar/Valar Morghulis , Tyrion as Hand

AGOT is always my favorite although the others are wonderful as well....Last on the list is AFFC. The others switch places whenever I think about different plotlines.
I'm just about through with another reread...70% through Dance....(I MUST get a life)Don't ask how many times I've read the series it's getting embarrassing. Needless to say I'm in double digits.
