Yeah another harsh 9, which is silly because 9 is great. Probably marginally preferred the premiere but I'm loving the fact that it hasn't been wall-to-wall carnage. Slower, character-based scenes are still vital to the story and I'm hopeful they'll never go away. Still, the action is rising and when they get that balance right it will be even more glorious.

I'll give this one a 9 as well, because it was all around amazing, especially Arya's scenes. Well ... okay. I have to admit that the much anticipated sea battle did very little for me. Probably because no one that I really care about was involved. It was also really dark and hard to make out friend from foe. Plus Euron went a bit too cartoony, which made me laugh and took me out of the moment. And because it was so hyped up, I couldn't help but feel a little bit underwhelmed by it. Still very well done of course, but not nearly as memorable as some of the other battles in the show, in my opinion. But I'm glad two-thirds of the Sand Snakes are gone. I expected that the show would try to make me feel bad for them in the end, but it really didn't, so ...

10/10, I gave most of my reasons in the discussion thread, but completely forgot to mention Varys, I loved his explanation to Dany, very powerful, he has a lot of balls for someone who's are missing. This season has exploded off to a great start!

I give it a 8. Not bad a episode but some the scenes were a complete throw away for me. The Greyworm love scenes were of no interest. I just can't stand Theon. Does this guy ever evolve? You would think after he finally did something and saved Sansa he would be a new man. But no he reverts back to being a total coward and abandons his sister. Yara was the only person in the world who cared at all for him. Was that her hanging from the noose on the ship? The Arya/Nymeria scenes were good. I like Dany's interactions with Varys and Tyrell.
I am assuming that Sam will make it look like Jorah escaped. But it is hard for me to believe someone at the Citadel wouldn't figure out what really happened.
Also I think it would have been better if Jon and Sansa spoke before announcing he is going to Dragonstone and Sansa will run the North until he gets back. I thought they would respect each other more and become a better team. But it was a complete repeat of episode one. Jon doesn't discuss his decision with Sansa beforehand and Sansa totally calls out Jon in front of everyone.
Also the weapons that they are making to fight the dragons would be very difficult to use. It will take a hell of a shot to actually connect with one of those arrows. I understand that Dany is so overwhelmingly powerful that they have to find ways to make her seem vulnerable. Still seems far fetched to me. I much rather see a dragon horn turn one of the dragons than see one killed via a large arrow.
I like what we are seeing with Dany. She is slowly moving towards a tyrant. I don't know if she will end up being a villain but I think her and Tyrion are set to start butting heads. And I love her look this season. She is looking more and more old school Valerian. A great combination of Beauty and Power.
Really really hoping for a Cercei/Tyrion reunion. That will be awesome. She hates him more than anyone. Also would really love for Varys/Littlefinger to have one more conversation. I love it when they drop the BS and are frank with each other. And of course the Stark reunion will be great to see. Jon, Sansa, Bran, and Arya all together again.

How is Dany turning into a tyrant? What she told Varys was the exact opposite of that. She basically told him if he starts to question her leadership her door is always open. It's strange to me how people interpret scenes so differently.

Ten. I was impressed with hipster Euron actually being the bad ass he claimed to be all along, but I do wish that Jon and Sansa would try to be a united front before Littlefinger. Just bicker in private ffs.

Give it a 8. More flaws than the last episode, but with great scenes overall.

It's a 8.5 from me that I'll round up to a 9. It's a really strong episode, but with a few flaws here and there. My highlights were: 1. Arya's scene with Nymeria. This was beautifully written, directed and acted. The full package so-to-speak. I loved it. 2. Jon's speech in the Great Hall conveyed just how much Kit has grown as an actor and Jon as a character. He is so much like Ned. I'm worried. 3. Krakenbowl was too short and not as perfectly directed as I had hoped for... BUT those close-ups of Euron's DERANGED face make up for all of that. Pilou is amazing. I also loved all the little character moments, particularly with Theon. Why wasn't this a 10 for me? Well, as I said, the direction could have been better. I also think that Grey Worm and Missandei went on for too long. Furthermore, I thought that Emilia's acting in the Dragonstone scenes was a bit wooden, especially in comparison to all the other great actors in the room with her. I never liked her scenes when she tries to be regal. She becomes really robotic. Her best scenes are the ones when she can show genuine emotions: for instance when she killed Drogo, chained up the dragons or commanded Jorah to look for a cure... Those are great Dany scenes. Most scenes that involve Queen Daenerys being regal, though? Not so much IMO. I hope she gets more emotional scenes in future episodes.

It's interesting because she's very sweet and expressive in real life too, but I think when she tries to be regal, it doesn't feel authentic. It's almost like she delivers her lines as if she's stiff and holding back in some ways. I think this started happening more in S4 where it felt flat during the indoor scenes imo, but then when she chained up her dragons, she was very good at showcasing Dany's inner struggle. Scenes that allow her to be genuine and emotional are her best for me. Another one to add on to the list is her last scene with Barristan when they're talking about Rhaegar in S5.

That's another good Dany scene. Seeing Dany laugh was great. The thing is: in the books Dany is allowed to be stoic on the outside, because we - as readers - have insight into her thoughts. We know exactly what Dany is feeling due to George's narrator. But a visual medium highly depends on the actor to express all of that. It's really difficult to portray stoicism on the outside and still give some subtle clues to the psyche of the character. Sadly, I don't think Emilia is very good at this, but then I also think that it's generally a really hard thing to play, even for a seasoned actor. Daenerys is one of the most complex roles on this show. Only an extremely expressive actor would be able to do that (Lena Headey for example, or Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things who plays everything just with her eyes). I wish D&D would recognise this and give Emilia more scenes like the ones we mentioned, because she is actually quite good at them. I feel nothing when Dany is in badass regal-mode, because Emilia's acting becomes quite wooden. But I started tearing up at this little gem of a scene here:

8.5. Will need another rewatch to decide on either a 8 or a 9.
As others have said, the directing was not always top-notch this episode. But it's constantly entertaining and continues the tradition of strong character moments this season, so it's very satisfying.

I voted it an 8, which is very low for me. I don't know exactly what it was about the episode, but I was just really disappointed in it. This is going to sound like whining/complaining [well, I guess that's exactly what it is, after all ), but I just didn't like the episode very much, and I never thought I'd ever say that about any GOT episode. So, trying to pin it down ... I saw no point in the Greyworm/Missandei scene. I wanted to be touched by the Sam/Jorah encounter, or at least by Sam's heroic determination to try to save him, but it just didn't really capture me. I didn't like Dany's scenes at all, she just seemed cold and detached. I felt let down by Arya's reunion with Hotpie (maybe the director was trying to get her to invoke the Sandor/Arya scenes from a couple of seasons ago, but it just didn't work. That's not who she is now). When Nymeria walked away after recognizing Arya, it broke my heart. Theon broke my heart, too - so sad to see him so debilitated. I've never really hated Cersei before, I mean Cersei is just Cersei, but I think I might be getting there now, that speech she gave was so full of deliberate lies. Euron's attack was spectacular, on a very big scale, and he plays a great crazy, but other than that terrific moment when he landed so dramatically on the end of that boom-thing, it just didn't really pull me in. Bitch, bitch, bitch. I'm sorry! I never finished my re-watch on Sunday night, but I'll give it a few days then go back and try again. Seems people have posted that it grows on you with re-watches.

9/10! Much better than the premiere!
+++++++++++++++++++++++ Closing the Varys/Dany plothole. Seriously, I'm so thankful for that. ++ Euron/Victarion killing the toxic waste that is the sand snakes. (One more to go). + The scene with Nymeria and Arya was great! + Hot Pie and Arya reunion was really sweet. Also quite weird that Arya didn't hear about the situation at Winterfell while she was at the Twins or with the Lannister soldiers. + Cersei and Qyburn and the scorpion ballista. + Jon giving Littlefinger the Ned Stark treatment. I really hope that Littlefinger will do something soon. +/- Sam and Jorah's scene was a bit disgusting and it felt like it lacked something. +/- The Michael Bay-esque sea-battle felt a bit over the top at times. It was very confusing and felt like it was out of a shitty film like 300, but not Game of Thrones. It was necessary to level the playing field. The acting was brilliant during the battle though, so that's great! --- Missandei and Grey Worm sex scene. It just felt so silly and forced. My best friend had this brilliant idea, that their relationship would be on a mental level only and they would literally just sleep together fully clothed. That would make it sweet and unique. But alas, here we are.
