It does make me wonder what Sapochnik could have done with this season. that naval battle would have been much better if sapochnik directed it imo. i know its really easy to shit on mylod but i cant help how i feel. he's mediocre at best in regards to GOT imo. Yeah, the naval battle is still decent DESPITE Mylod, not because of him IMO. There are way too many shots from different angles and fast-cuts between them. Also, that super nervous and frantic camera made it really hard to see what the fuck was even going on. It felt like an action scene from a Michael Bay movie as Diablotion said in the other thread. Or like a music video. I know a popular counter-argument to this is "but the scene was supposed to look chaotic". Well yes, but there is a way to make a scene look chaotic without having it result in a blurry disjointed mess. Sapochnik and Marshall did that much better. Nevertheless, krakenbowl still ended up being a decent scene because of the acting and the production value. The visuals are great because HBO threw a lot of money at this. Not because Mylod made it look good with his direction. That being said, there is a beautifully directed scene in the same episode. I'm referring to the Nymeria scene.

Or like a music video. I know a popular counterargument to this is "but the scene was supposed to look chaotic". Well yes, but there is a way to make a scene look chaotic without resulting in a blurry disjointed mess. Sapochnik and Marshall did that much better. Nevertheless, krakenbowl still ended up being a decent scene because of the acting and the production value. This is an accurate consensus of feedback I'm hearing while watching 'reaction' videos on youtube for this episode. While most fans enjoyed the sea-battle at face value for the excitement and drama itself, the actual breakdown of what was going on was all over the place and confusing for most. Yes that was likely the point of the shaky camera and extra darkness but I do think the director was a bit off on this one compared to some of the other battles we've had in past seasons. It's honestly going to be very hard to beat battle scenes like Hardhome and BotB and Sapochnik clearly has a much better eye for it. At the end of the sea battle, a good portion of reaction viewers thought that was Yara hanging from the mast of the ship and not Nymeria. Mylod should have done some clearer shots up close and lightened things just a bit more strategically with the burning ships. I've never been a fan of shaky-cam tactics in battles. The argument that it's supposed to feel confusing and chaotic doesn't fly when BotB was a seriously confusing mess of men riding and fighting in all directions at once but the camera stayed glued to Jon mostly and was very steady and crisp clear. Maybe it was the fact they did the battle scene at night and the ships are obviously not really at sea which made this one more challenging. It still turned out pretty good but not as good as others in the past including Blackwater.

It's such a big deal, I don't know how I feel about a director who isn't at his best.

I think Mylod does really well with small-scale scenes and character interactions. Look how great Arya's reunion with Nymeria was - that was awesome! I don't think he's the greatest director for large-scale battle sequences. We've honestly been spoiled by the man, the legend, Sapochnik.

Someone in the WotW comments mentiond a crowdfunding to have direwolves included. I'd almost contribute.
Wonder where Mel will disappear to when Jon and Davos arrive? I don't think either one of them is disposed to be friendly.
Part of me is full on anticipation for the meeting that has been so many years in the making. Yes, it's been foreshadowed to death, but still nothing in the ASoIaF universe has this level of build-up save the NK breaking through the Wall. When D&D talked about the accelerated pace this season, they weren't kidding. Last Sunday night my emotions rode the GoT roller coaster and it appears it will happen again this week. Much as I love Indira as an actress, I think the other two Dornish Sands will receive the Queen's Justice, a satisfying adventure for all of us I do believe. What else could Euron be bringing as the 'valuable' prize?
