He's like Jon in season 2. Aching for a chance to prove himself even when it's dangerous. It's Robert and Ned together again and I love it.
Didn't really expect to enjoy Gendry's return so much; I always like him but never cared for his meme status. I thought it made sense that he's been stewing on the reality of his birth for however many years now, hoping for it to mean something. Now it might.

but probably still better than No One. I haven't checked the usual suspects, the increasingly-irrelevant fandom stomping grounds, as yet (and won't because they don't matter anymore and never will again, ha ha) but at least from IMDB, it's certainly higher-rated than that one was at this time of night/still-awake-morning last year. I'm sure the youtubers and redditors that fancy themselves the fandom intelligentsia will magnify their quibbling as best they can...but thankfully their voices mean less and less with each passing week. Him joining Davos was fine, his motivation for joining Jon's suicide squad is what bothered me a bit. That came out of nowhere, really. Yeah, his hype level was insane. I mean sure he trusts Davos, but it did feel weird. The poor fella wanted a sense of purpose, I guess. And's throwing himself into his work. Which I'm sure he'll regret almost immediately when he sees some of them-there WWs and co.

Did Joe Dempsie change the accent he was using btw? Before he sounded like he had some Estuary-sortof thing going on and now he sounded Northern. I defer to yer expertise here.

Nah he's always used his merseyside accent, though it isn't very strong.

Some other stuff also bothered me: why the fuck is Jon's fellowship on foot? How do they plan to carry the wight all the way south? And they don't seem to be carrying anything other than their weapons, so how are they going to eat or set up camp? I studied logistics way too much to ignore details like this. I don't sound like someone who just gave this episode a 9, do I?

But if you pay close attention, you can see they are pulling something. And I assume they are not using horses because of how much worse the climate got?

Nah he's always used his merseyside accent, though it isn't very strong. It seemed a lot stronger this time. His vowels in particular stood out more than I ever can recall. But as before, I'll defer to you on such things. The KL accent is something the show has kept very inconsistent. Particularly with Davos seemingly a Geordie, Jerome sounding Northern but most other characters there doing London ones. Anyhow. Cause for confusion. Which it wouldn't be if characters didn't bring up KL accents and muddy the waters. But these are minor quibbles of mine. Not worth docking points for. Definitely thought it was a stronger ep than No One. Arya bitching at Sansa was off putting and felt a little forced to me and Davos "still rowing" line was groan-worthy but can't think of anything else I had a problem with.

Nah it might have been, I was super wrong about Jason Isaacs the other day. They might have asked him to ramp it up to stoke more similarities between him and Robert

The more I think about this episode the more annoyed I get. Now I'm thinking about Tyrion and Jaime's rushed reunion. We could've had a 10min long scene right there, those two had a great deal to talk about, instead it barely lasted 2 minutes. Tyrion also had no reason to think Jaime was alive after seeing his charge at Dany last episode. He either saw Jaime die because of the angle or saw Bronn save him. Either way, he forgot about it completely. Jaime's escape from the battle was also really stupid, he should've been captured.
Fuck it, just changed my 9 to a 7. Still love it, but damn there's way too much to complain about.

Art and entertainment can't merely be reconfigured in one's head through silent analysis. They need to be experienced again to be re-assessed. Maaaaaan.
