A triumphant return for Alan Taylor. He was too good for them-there blockbusters. Glad to have him back in the world of TV. Oh yeah. And a ten, of course. At least he probably developed a rapport with Emilia on Terminator. This was some of her best work. Obviously part of that was what was written, but he should get credit as well.

9. Don't understand some of the writing choices in Winterfell. Sansa is afraid of Arya but knows Brienne will protect her, and then immediately sends Brienne away. Huh? LF was playing some reverse psychology to get her to send Bri away. By saying she'll stand by both of you, he meant she might not side with Arya over you. I thought it was either this or Sansa's way of showing (maybe to herself more than anyone else) that she is not listening to Baelish and doing as he suggests.

Idk I just thought it was jarring.

A pity that couldn't translate into the Terminator thingmy but I never thought that one would work out anyways. But yeah, I'd say he's brought out her best work thus far on GoT.

I love this more than Hardhome and Battle of the Bastards. Definitely a 10/10.

10 out of 10
Everything worked in this one for me. From the men's conversations on their way to they know not what, to the polar bar lunging out of the storm, to the last stand on the rock, I felt I trudged every step with the Magnificent Seven. The conflict at Winterfell was a little harsh but once I understood Arya's motif it was more enjoyable.
And the trailer for next week? Outstanding. Wonder if this one will get leaked as well?

As much as how epic this episode felt, it doesn't hold the candle as the best episode of this season for me however. Giving it an 8.
I absolutely love the interactions among the wright hunters. The conversation between them is enjoyable as these develop the characters to a greater scale. Tyrion and Dany's scene is refreshing. The wright battles are solid. And everything about Viserion, from his death to becoming a wright are disturbing as hell (i wonder how the scenes would be executed if the episode is direct by Sapochnik).
The Winterfell scenes... Dear lord, wtf is up with the writing, the character of Arya and Sansa has become of a mess. I get that they try to present the Stark conflict, but the way they executed it was all over the place. Also, while the wright battles are epic, some of the action fell very flat.

I forgot Alan Taylor directed Genisys. Poor Emilia was the only good thing about that trainwreck.

I can't think of anything I disliked. Some of the "issues" were completely blown out of proportion and are no issues at all. We clearly see time passing and I imagine a dragon can fly really fast. The first scene in Winterfell sets up the Sansa/Arya-conflict beautifully and everything Arya said and did in this episode was in-character. I agree with Envie's interpretation of the scenes.
This episode is also a lot quieter and more dialogue-driven than I expected, which is a wonderful thing. It is thematically rich and quite emotional. The score alone would have done the job, but the acting and writing were really strong also (the Jonerys scene stood out to me).
I think we will spend a lot of time analysing those bits about heirs and life/death and whatnot. There is a lot of foreshadowing there. I'm not sure this episode really confirms that our heroes will all survive as Archie suggested. I interpreted that differently. But Dany will definitely have children. That much is certain.
It's a 10. Best episode of the season.

LF was playing some reverse psychology to get her to send Bri away. By saying she'll stand by both of you, he meant she might not side with Arya over you. I guess that makes sense. Idk I just thought it was jarring. I think that's the point. It's also for people who are not spoiled. I actually love the Winterfell scenes. The contrast between the two, how LF sort of mimics the NK. The rock was a trap, LF had tricked area. She sets up Sansa who goes through her room and gets caught. My interpretation is that Arya figured out the dagger. I think she figured out that just like LF used the letter to create conflict , he used the dagger. It's the same trick. She does not approve of Sansa's actions, and her working with LF. He is trying to play her against her family, not the first time for Sansa. So she is reminding her, it's pick a side time. I think she is really pissed it's happening again and is not sure which side Sansa will actually take. Arya is on to his game, which is why she lets Sansa sneak into her room looking for the letter. Same thing he did to her. Seeing her do it forces her to question who Sansa is with, the Starks or LF. People may not like to see Sansa make mistakes, but the you have been watching her work with LF for multiple seasons. You knew it was not going to lead to anything good. They are setting up Sansa's moment of growth. Arya is not trying to hurt her, she is laying down the hard reality. What kind of place do you think Arya is at if she suspects LF caused a lot of Stark deaths. And if you don't think Sansa makes mistakes why is she still listening to LF? You all know how bad he is, and what he did. Sansas growth is not about from Pawn to Player, she is a smart girl, like anyone she can make mistakes. Sansas growth is about family. It brings her story full circle. It's about the family vs. the individual. The loan wolf dies but the pack survives.

10. Fucking obviously. I've seldom been more certain of a grade for any episode. Masterpiece. For me, there’s no other word for it. I was literally shaking after I watched it.
It was the best episode of the season, and this season's been absolutely superb. Possibly my favorite if the finale is as great as the rest of it, which I have no reason to doubt. But “Beyond the Wall” is something else. Top 2 of the entire series for me. As of right now, I would only rank "The Winds of Winter" ahead of it, and I've only watched it once. Considering that the Season 6 finale is essentially my platonic ideal of a perfect episode of television, that's pretty great company for this hour to be in.
It was thrilling, awe-inspiring, heartbreaking, and deeply emotional, with great dialogue and fantastic character work. Brilliantly written, directed, and acted. It was everything I want from an episode of Game of Thrones and more.
Dany’s arrival to save Jon and the rest of the team is one of the most thrilling moments of the entire series. Ramin's score in that moment ... I can't wait to buy the soundtrack. I'll be listening to that track on repeat for a long time. That made the turn into tragedy all the more gutwrenching. Viserion’s death was devastating, and rendered even more painful by the promise that was kept in the final scene when the Night King raised him again as his undead slave. But the light returned in the form of that Jon-Dany scene immediately preceding it, which is honestly one of the most beautiful and deeply affecting scenes that the show has ever done.
The scenes at Winterfell weren't quite as superlative as everything that happened north of the Wall, but I still loved them - especially Arya's speech about shooting arrows while Ned watched. I thought it did a beautiful job of reinforcing the love that she had for her father, and why she would be so angry at Sansa's supposed betrayal. Harsh as it was, I also liked that she refused to accept Sansa's "I was just a child" justification by invoking Lyanna Mormont. Their final scene was intense, but I understood what Arya was doing, and both Maisie and Sophie killed it. I can understand if people aren't liking this conflict between the Stark sisters, but it's working for me.
I'll be watching this episode yet again in about half an hour. I can't freaking wait.

It's a 9 from me. There are a ton of moments I loved, like the first 20 minutes of character interactions, and the amazing set pieces and action sequences, but there's just something stopping me from giving this a 10, and I don't know what it is. It was almost...underwhelming in a way? I dunno, I never really cared about the other two dragons, and I'm not even sure which one was actually killed, so that didn't really impact me emotionally
