As we suffer through the Long Night till season 8 or WINDS release, whichever comes first, starting this thread for a topic not discussed on this forum - The parallels between Jon and Aegon.
There are few similarities between Jon and Aegon and there are also few striking contrasts. I will not get into the details why I am convinced that fAegon is a Blackfyre from his mother's side and Illyrio is his father. Please let me know if you want me to. I also think it is likely that Varys is his maternal uncle, i.e. Varys is a Blackfyre. R+L=J is assumed to be true here because lets not start yet another discussion on that.
Lets look at the similarities first,
and now the contrasts
If fAegon is a pretender, then by the same logic Jon is a pretender too. fAegon is a Blackfyre unknowingly pretending to be a trueborn Targ. Likewise, Jon is a trueborn Targ pretending to be a Stark bastard. That's the heart of the similarity between between. The heart of contrast lies with why they are unknowing pretenders.
Ned raised Jon as his bastard because safety of Lyanna's child outweighed any claim to the Throne. That was a very clear and easy decision for Ned. Not even once would he have entertained the idea of putting Jon on the Throne. Ned promised Lyanna to keep Jon safe and that's exactly what he did. No such promise was made to put Jon on the Throne.
On the contrary, Aegon is personification of the Blackfyre ambition to put their bloodline on the Throne. This is what it comes down to. For the power hungry, putting yourself or your bloodline on the Throne is all that is important. Varys and Illyrio are going to get Aegon killed in their quest of putting a Blackfyre on the Throne.
These similarities and contrasts will dictate their arcs in WINDS. I don't see either surviving the winter, at least not as humans, that might be yet another similarity but it is of course speculative at the moment.
Jon and Aegon are equally tragic and unwitting pretenders caught in this power struggle.

Lets look at the similarities first,
- Questionable parentage. Neither have ever seen their respective mother.
- Both were groomed to become leaders
- Born around the time of the Rebellion
and now the contrasts
- Jon is a trueborn Targ raised as a Stark Bastard. Aegon is a Blackfyre raised as a trueborn Targ
- Jon thinks he was raised by his biological father but we know that's not true. Aegon was actually raised by his biological father but he has no clue.
- Ned kept Jon's parentage a secret because keeping him alive is more important than putting him on the Throne. Jon was fooled into thinking that he is Ned's bastard so that he would remain safe among the Stark children. On the other hand, Aegon could have lived a cozy life in Pentos as Illyrio's son and inherited his wealth and lived a very happy life. Instead he is fooled into thinking that he is Rhaegar and Elia's son and the rightful king of the 7 kingdoms.
- Aegon's sole purpose and obsession in life seems to be the king of seven kingdoms. Jon has shown no such interest in becoming a king of anywhere
- Polar opposite situations at the end of ADWD. Jon died at the end of ADWD. Aegon was victorious in taking the Storm's End at the end of ADWD (known from Arianne II chapter in WINDS)
