Lead Actor and Lead Actress now. I will provide Metacritic (MC) and Rotten Tomatoes (RT) links for each movie and movies with a * are still unseen. Lead Actor- Mahershala Ali (Green Book) - MC/RT
- Christian Bale (Vice) *
- Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born) - MC/RT
- Willem Dafoe (At Eternity’s Gate) - MC/RT
- Ryan Gosling (First Man) - MC/RT
- Lucas Hedges (Boy Erased) - MC/RT
- Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) *
- Viggo Mortensen (Green Book) - MC/RT
- Brad Pitt (Ad Astra) *
- Robert Redford (The Old Man & The Gun) - MC/RT
Ali and Mortensen are apparently both leads but one of them will eventually be frauded into supporting. Lead Actress- Yalitza Aparicio (Roma) - MC/RT
- Glenn Close (The Wife) - MC/RT
- Olivia Colman (The Favourite) - MC/RT
- Viola Davis (Widows) - MC/RT
- Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born) - MC/RT
- Kiki Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk) - MC/RT
- Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) - MC/RT
- Saoirse Ronan (Mary, Queen of Scots) *
- Emma Stone (The Favourite) - MC/RT
- Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) - MC/RT
There is some confusion about who is going lead for The Favourite. Stone and Weisz are the titular favourites while Colman have the raves and won the Coppa Volpi in Venice. Eventually one of them will be chosen to go lead while the other two are going supporting - probably Weisz and Colman or Stone.

And yeah that's an excellent cast, regardless software who goes lead. I thought Widows might have been quite popular in terms of awards predictions. The trailer certainly looked like they were angling that way "Academy award winner..." Flashed up so many times when listing the cast and director. The film looks awesome whether it's an awards winner or not though. It's weird actually, usually I don't have too much interest in many of the awards favourites for films, im much more of a TV person. But out of this list I am excited for the majority of them

Yesterday, November 27th, the National Board of Review (NBR) announced their awards. The NBR was founded in 1909 as a response to the the Mayor of New York's decision to revoke the exhibition licenses of movies in theaters because he believed movies degraded the morals of the community. The response from theaters' owners was to establish an organization to remove any material deemed improper for the community from movies, thus becoming the unofficial censorship organ for movies. For decades the NBR had final approval on the prints of any movie that wished to be released on the United States, including destroying it if it was declared unsuitable for audiences. In 1930, the NBR become the second organization - after the Academy - to announce end-of-year honors for film-making. Initially as only Top 10 lists, it has evolved to cover individual categories as we now today. As the first organization with a general scope to announce their awards the NBR is considered the official start of the Oscar season. Best Film: Green Book Best Director: Bradley Cooper, A Star is Born Best Actor: Viggo Mortensen, Green Book Best Actress: Lady Gaga, A Star is Born Best Supporting Actor: Sam Elliott, A Star is Born Best Supporting Actress: Regina King, If Beale Street Could Talk Best Original Screenplay: Paul Schrader, First Reformed Best Adapted Screenplay: Barry Jenkins, If Beale Street Could Talk Best Animated Feature: Incredibles 2 Breakthrough Performance: Thomasin McKenzie, Leave No Trace Best Directorial Debut: Bo Burnham, Eighth Grade Best Foreign Language Film: Cold War Best Documentary: RBG Best Ensemble: Crazy Rich Asians William K. Everson Film History Award: The Other Side of the Wind / They'll Love Me When I'm Dead NBR Freedom of Expression: 22 July / On Her Shoulders A few thoughts: - Green Book as Best Film is a surprise. Coming out of nowhere in Toronto to win the Grolsch People's Choice Award, the movie cements its position as a contender for a nomination but will have a hard time contending for the win. Mortensen manages to survive his faux-pas to boast his chances in his race for a third nomination.
- A Star is Born snags three awards. Cooper as Director, Gaga as Lead Actress and Elliot as Supporting Actor.
- Regina King confirms her front-runner status for Supporting Actress.
