Black Panther breaks the CBM glass-celling by receiving a nod in Picture plus Score and Song but, not surprisingly, fails to get director, acting or writing nods.
Blackkklansman gets Picture, Director and two acting nods (Washington and Driver) but strangely fails to get a writing nod.
Bohemian Rhapsody, despite the mixed reviews, gets Picture and Lead Actor (Malek)
If Beale Street Could Talk gets Picture, Supporting Actress (King) and Screenplay. But failed to get a crucial Director nod and strangely a Score nod.
A Star is Born shows strength by getting Picture, Director, the two Leads (Gaga and Cooper) and Song. But NBR winner Sam Elliott misses as does the screenplay.
Crazy Rich Asians gets Picture and Lead Actress (Wu).
The Favourite gets Picture, Lead Actress (Colman), two Supporting nods (Stone and Weisz) and screeplay but misses the crucial Director nod.
Green Book maxes out its potential by getting 5 nods: Picture, Director, Screenplay, Lead and Supporting Actors (Mortensen and Ali).
Mary Poppins Returns gets Picture, the two Leads (Blunt and Miranda) and Score. But misses Director, Screenplay and, most bizarrely as a musical, Song.
Vice comes out of the gate roaring by getting the most nods: Picture, Director, Screenplay, and three acting nods (Bale, Adams and Rockwell).
One aside on the TV side: Richard Madden was nominated for Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Bodyguard which also received a Drama Series nod.
