Jenny of Oldstones made me give it 9, saving 10 for hopefully something even better.

Had to go with a 10. Tried to come up with reasons to nitpick it down to a 9 to save the perfect score for what’s coming, but I just couldn’t.

I think it's important to note that this is Bryan Cogman's last episode he has contributed to this show (as a credited writer) and while he has a number of great eps with his name on that he should be proud of, he saved his best for last. Hopefully this carries over to D&D with their final 4 episodes as credited writers.

So I rewatched it this morning. One of the things about this episode is that there isn't really a bad scene in the bunch and there are a lot of scenes. We all have some we like more than others but that doesn't make those bad scenes they all had their own merits.
The Knight of the seven Kingdoms scene in its entirety is among the best the show has ever done. It's subtle, and quiet, emotional, introspective, and still managed to have that pre battle tension. It's a really beautiful scene and brings one journey to its culmination. NCW is just note perfect the entire episode. If you think about it everything in his life brought him to this one moment, it had to be Jaime. GC brings out Brie's doubt, and hurt, and turns it into a moment of pure joy. How they each took roads less traveled that led her to this moment with this man, who she loves.
The build up actually begins with Dany and Bran. Why is Jaime there? he is there to fight for the living.he states. Which he is its just a bit more specific. The things we do for love Bran replies. A callback of course but it works on more than one level here. Why have you abandoned your house they ask him. He looks right at Brie and we get another callback this goes beyond loyalty, it's about survival. The subtext is he is there because of her. Survival isn't the only thing that goes beyond loyalty, love, love transcends.
Naturally Brie stands up for him, you would vouch for him? You would fight beside him? Of course she would. Jaime watches her leave.
We see Jaime speak with Bran and then a walk and talk with Tyrion. As they are on the battlements Jaimes attention is drawn away to Brie as he stands above watching her. They talk, what do you want she asks. I came to Winterrfell because... he pauses to look at her. He changes the subject, I would like to fight alongside you, under your command. Listen to the music, look at her face, she already said she would fight with him. Again it's the subtext, she is conflicted why is he here, it can't be for her can it?
The things we do for love. You know it's always been Jaimes first motivation, misplaced more often than not, but his love for his brother, for Cersei have been his driving force. But someone else has brought him here.
Jaime and Tyrion speaking at the hearth, enter Brie and Pod, Brie wants to leave to get some sleep and Jaime pulls up a chair for her, Join us. Rather quickly she responds with okay. The play a cute little love triangle with Tormund trying to impress her with the best milk commercial ever. But her eyes are drawn to Jaime and we see Tormund sees him as a rival for her.
As the come back to the hearth and talk of Knights. Jaime knows, he knows her as well as anyone. Her look, is this another cruel joke like the so many that were played upon her, Her trepidation. There are others in the room, but this moment becomes about them about there journey together. As Nic said Dunk would of been proud. But there is something else. Jaime has always been grey he epitomizes it. But not here, here is the man Arthur Dayne chose as his squire. "Arise Brienne of Tarth a Knight of the seven kingdoms." He has never been so noble, and she has never been more vulnerable. For a moment they are lost in eachothers eyes, Jaime knows. Then the applause start and draw them back to the room.
God damn it, that damn scene keeps getting me in the feels. That scene is a 10, but I think the episode as a whole is a strong 9. It's hard to get me in the feels, but this one gut punched me. What great culmination to their story.

It's a 10, or rather a 9.9. The only flaw is not making Varys part of the hearth scene. Conleth Hill is a treasure.

I gave it a 7. I wish i enjoyed it more, and i did find many of the individual scenes fantastic, the acting was some of the best the show has had in a long time and the dialogue was very strong in general. Highlights for me, all things Tormund, all things Brienne and Jaime, Sansa and Theon, Sansa and Dany. I can’t put my finger on what brought the episode down for me so articulating the 7 is difficult.

I've watched it 4 times now and I still laugh my ass off at Tormund's story. God that scene is gold.

Much much much better!
This was such an emotional episode, but without the cliche cringefest that was the first episode. Brienne has basically signed her death warrant and it's going to be absolutely devastating. The fireplace scene was one of the best scenes in the entire series and the apocalyptic pre-war atmosphere was so authentic and intense. Fuck me, I'm so excited and scared for the next episode.
Minuses? These were hard to come by, but Dany and Jon still feel a bit odd to me. I was expecting a lot more from Jaime's "trial" and I was left quite disappointed.
9/10

Of course! In my opinion it just feels so out of character for both characters. It feels more like Disney love stories than other brilliant Thrones relationships. It might be just a minor pacing problem for me. It doesn't feel natural.

Ah, yes those good old Disney love stories about incestuos relationships between aunt and nephew. We’ve seen WAY too many of those!

And Jon and Ygritte wasn't "Disney love story"? It has the same plot as Avatar, Pocahontas and so on.

And Jon and Ygritte wasn't "Disney love story"? It has the same plot as Avatar, Pocahontas and so on. That relationship feels real and evolved much more naturally. I don't really have much problems with Jon & Dany's relationship now, but I feel like they could've done a much better job with bringing them together in Season 7. And honestly, the dialogue between them was bit cringe-y in Episode 1. So cheesy.
