I feel like I'm in parallel universe when I see vocal online reaction to this episode. What they say just doesn't make sense to me. Claiming that this was the worst episode in the show is laughable. It's the most recent episode. That's why. Doesn't change the fact this episode was probably one of the worst in the shows run. But that's not a fact.

It's the most recent episode. That's why. Doesn't change the fact this episode was probably one of the worst in the shows run. But that's not a fact. It's the lowest rated episode on IMDB, and the second lowest on Rotten Tomato. That would make it a fact. If you insist on being technical, then it's a fact that it's one of the lowest rated.

It's nowhere near my favorite episode either, but don't know if I would call the "worst episode" yet, not at least until the season is over and people go back to reflect on the series in its entirety.

Dany is such a divisive character that no matter what they did the season was going to be polarising. It just so happens that it's her fan boys who are butthurt and claiming the show has fallen off a cliff rather than her haters.

Ratings on IMDB are manipulated by trolls. And for this season RT included a lot more reviews than before. And a lot if them were from some random blogers. They criticized the show for political reasons. Killing black girl, both female queens being unfit to rule and so on. Same for Rotten Tomatoes I suppose, but I don't feel that's the case for this episode. There are 67,000+ ratings on IMDB and I doubt every last one of them was a troll review. I think most people just thought it was bad. When even casual GoT fans don't like the episode, I feel it says far more than people who obsess over it, and the majority of consensus online is that it's not a good episode. I never said worst. In fact my first comment was pretty much just saying people say it's the worst because it's the most recent bad episode. I feel like it is one of the worst though.

Just realised that this is the first episode that made me glad they aged up missandei. Seeing the little Naathi scribe from the books so brutally cut down would have broke me

Artist Robert Ball said on Twitter that this week's Beautiful Death is his favorite so far. I can see why. It's gorgeous ... and almost ethereal in its quality.
“I wanted to focus on Missandei's death,” he stated. “The starting point of my idea was to somehow show her dream of returning to the beaches of Naath with Grey Worm: a dream that died with her.
“Compositionally, I wanted to reference my Beautiful Death for Ned Stark in Season 1, as the staging of Missandei's death referenced his on the show. I worked on a color rough this week, and the finished image doesn't stray too far away from it.”
The artist shared he, “wanted the image to have a dream-like quality” so he “shied away from heavy blacks, and used transparencies to create a layered effect.”
I hadn't really considered the Ned Stark parallels before, though now that he mentions them they're quite obvious. Both Ned and Missandei were viciously beheaded at the hands of mute servants wielding massive swords who were following the impulsively cruel orders of tyrannical Lannisters. Both died in front of their loved ones, who were powerless to stop the act. And both deaths ignited wars that will claim thousands of lives, and could have maybe been avoided if only cooler heads had prevailed. What's ironic is that Cersei was one of the people trying to stop Joffrey from committing such an act back in Season 1. Here, she's the one giving the order - and while her thought process is obviously far more calculating, it will likely prove to be no less ruinous. Like son, like mother.
The more direct contrast, I suppose, is that while Ned ultimately sacrificed his pride and honor in his final moments in the hopes of saving his daughters' lives, Missandei refused to sacrifice hers and gave her Queen and her lover permission to avenge her with Fire and Blood, whatever the cost.
Well ... now I'm heartbroken all over again. Excuse me ...

I wasn't going to watch a lot of reviews or reactions this week due to spoiler fear, but I did decide to watch the few post-episode reviewers I like and was pleasantly surprised Ozzy man liked the episode. He reminds his viewers he hated season 5 and was a total critic due to book deviations but eventually, he got over it and enjoyed the show for what it is. It's really the human drama of the story that most fans live for, so here it is, in our faces full force. He gives some valid reasons why the episode was a return to 'vintage' thrones and may give some reassurance to those here who feel alone in their like of the episode. A lot of people did enjoy it and don't understand the hatred it's receiving. The story plot is definitely polarizing as was warned about this season well beforehand.
Worth a watch:

That's definitely the best Beautiful Death in a while.
On the reaction to the episode, it's funny, although there's a ton of negative responses to the episode, I'm really not seeing a consensus of hatred anywhere outside of Reddit. I'm able to have far more reasonable discussions with supposedly more casual fans in real life than I am on parts of the internet. Reddit is devoid of discourse, it's just one big yawnworthy heap of bitterness, content with piling onto the season without nuance or originality. Everyone pointing out the same things over and over again with smug disdain is not a worthwhile exercise in criticism.
In real life I've had so many more diverse takes. I've seen so many people say they thought the Batlle of Winterfell was rubbish and the latest episode was a return to form. And I've seen people say the Battle of Winterfell was the best episode the show has ever done, but they weren't content with the direction the season is taking. I mean, we've said it before but it's polarising. Not a trainwreck. Not a heap of shit. Just of a quality that is really debatable. And I for one think that's a perfectly fine thing, so long as it's possible to talk about it in a way that isn't flippantly above it all.

Reddit so easily goes from euphoria to hysteria. They liked E2 soo much and only 2 episodes later everything is ruined and the show is pointless. Lol
Even if you hate Dany's invasion storyline there is so much more that you can enjoy. I mean even if Dany's invasion storyline was horrible for some people, that has nothing to do with WOT5K storyline for example. Or High Sparrow storyline. Or Starks vs Boltons. Or wildlings vs NW storyline and so on.
Those storylines can't be "ruined" no matter what happens here because they are over.
But whatever.

As much as I'm loving the season, I'm truly ready for it to end. And to be able to discuss the ending freely with everybody.
Kinda wish 4-5-6 were one long continuous movie...

I just read that Euron "isn't paying that much attention" so he didn't realize how Tyrion knew about the baby.
Really?

I just read that Euron "isn't paying that much attention" so he didn't realize how Tyrion knew about the baby. Really? David Nutter said that. But there're other explanations if the show isn't going to address that. He could just assume spies had relayed that info to Tyrion. Or maybe it will be addressed and David Nutter didn't want to give that away. But generally tv directors are much more hired hands than auteurs, so they just shoot what's on the page and in this case he's being asked to justify a whole list of items and he's just spitballing.

Between Benioff and the forgotten iron fleet, and Nutter with his ghost comment and Euron having his ear buds in these guys should really just stop talking...
