I bet the think-piece authors who wrote about how all the non-white characters died as cannon fodder against the dead must be feeling mighty foolish about now. Yeah true and while the writers have made mistakes, you still can find justified explanations outside of what is shown on screen. The focus of that battle was on the main characters, but they didn't show where Davos was most of the time and he survived. Hun I was just making a joke about woke twitter

Can't wait for the epic return of Robin Arryn.
It is genuinely hilarious and yet so perfectly true to the spirit of this world that after all the carnage and violence that we've witnessed over these eight seasons - including multiple wars and two truly apocalyptic clashes in the North and the South - and all of the brilliant characters that we've lost during the course of this epic story ... that Robin freaking Arryn is going to make it to the end of the series. If you'd told me that back in Season 4, I would have laughed so hard I would have cracked a rib or three.
Little Sweetrobin, who was introduced suckling at his mother's teat and howling for her to throw people through the Moon Door. Who was last seen leaving arrows five feet short of their target and ogling his new gyrfalcon while casually threatening his most loyal vassal. THAT guy. Barring the darkest possible ending where Dany roasts all of the surviving Lords of Westeros and Drogon picks his teeth with their bones, THAT guy is going to survive going to help shape the future of the realm. Incredible. All props to the Defender of the Vale.

The focus of that battle was on the main characters, but they didn't show where Davos was most of the time and he survived. I think this is just it, we were shown the battle from the perspective of our main characters and it focused on them but there really isn't any reason to assume that they were the only ones left alive in the end, we weren't shown that. Gendry also survived and we didn't see much of him.

It's sort of sad that we're on the day of the end of Game of Thrones and the last post to this thread was four days ago. This is not how I expected the hype and excitement of the finale to go by any means. People are either a) Already spoiled by leaks and not talking, b) Upset by the last two episodes (or entire season) and not talking, or c) happy with the season so far and nothing more to say ... which would be an odd way to celebrate the finale. My guess is most everyone's holding their breath, waiting for it to be over to either confirm/deny finale leaks/rumors and trying not to spoil it for the few of us still hanging on to unsullied status by a thread. I'll admit even trying to avoid it I've seen some media headlines that may or may not have alluded to leaks or spoilers as 'theories' and I've mostly ignored it all but suspect some of it has been based on known leaks. But anyway. 9 years of GoT... I thought this would be the biggest, most amazing day of the entire thing, where it all comes together and closes out almost a decade of epic acting, music, cinematography and drama. I would never have imagined it to go out like this.

I'm not really sure anymore. Anyway, for a while now I've looked forward to the post-episode discussion here more than to the episodes themselves, so I hope everyone comes back for the prequels later on. I know I will, regardless of what happens tonight.

This season has been quite the journey. Will post more once the episode has aired and the dust has started to settle.
Although something a little more lighthearted to pass the time: guesses for the episode title? I know this is a bit of a pointless exercise because we are pretty much always wrong, but meh. My guess is either A Time for Wolves or Queen of the Ashes.

Shocked at how indifferent I am to the show ending tonight. Man it wasn’t supposed to be like this lol.

I would never have imagined it to go out like this. Yeah it's kinda sad, although I think it's almost entirely because of the leaks. No idea how active the leak forum is obviously, but there would be far more discussion and the general forum would feel far more active if there weren't any. I'm still excited for the finale for one! It's more the wider fandom that's been exhausting rather than the forum, or the show itself. I think the state of the discourse definitely proves that they're ending it at the right time though, even if it's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy since the biggest reason it's like this is because it's ending.

Anyway, for a while now I've looked forward to the post-episode discussion here more than to the episodes themselves, so I hope everyone comes back for the prequels later on. I know I will, regardless of what happens tonight. I'm going to follow the prequels and spinoffs for sure. Even if they don't come close to the epic story of ASOIAF, they could still be really good and in the same fantasy world is a definite win starting out any new series. It might also be refreshing to have a completely different and unknown story and characters to follow that's not coloring our perceptions and expectations as this one did with so many years of book fandom before the show began. I think the state of the discourse definitely proves that they're ending it at the right time though, even if it's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy since the biggest reason it's like this is because it's ending. Great irony there and I agree, a lot of this negativity has been building in the long interim period between seasons 7 and 8 (still think that was a mistake) and now that the end is finally here, it feels rushed to many of us and too disjointed from the previous season. We want it to end well or not at all and it was never going to make everyone happy so I guess they just decided to cut it off where they did. I was never one to beg for more seasons simply because I wanted it to go on indefinitely. I've seen how that makes other series suffer and isn't good. I just wanted it to go on a little longer to give more time for a lot of these endings we needed more time to understand. I still don't understand their choices for much of this... for Varys, Jaime, Tyrion, Daenerys, even Jon! I don't think the finale is going to answer most of what I need closure on and so I'm just bracing myself for it and already acceptant of the end, whatever it is.

But you know what, guys... A lot of us have known each other for years now. As a community (including the old place), we have been discussing the show together since 2015. Even longer if you include the time before that. Holy fuck.
