Watched the first four episodes. So far this is my ranking from best to worst:
Hang the DJ USS Callister Arkangel Crocodile
Hang the DJ and Callister were both excellent throughout. I enjoyed them a lot. And I think Hang the DJ could be top 3 for me, but we'll see.
Arkangel was a bit weaker, but not as weak as I expected it to be after hearing your opinions. The execution was lacking, but the writing was actually pretty strong. The way all the details came together in the end was nice. There was a pretty clear purpose to everything and it emphasised this episode's message in a perhaps not so subtle but at least meaningful way.
Crocodile, however, was lacking pretty much throughout imo. I did not like this episode. A similar story with the same outcome could have been told entirely without the tech, so it's a Black Mirror episode where the actual Black Mirror elements were not needed. But why tell this story then? The tech just felt tagged on and sort of gimmicky. It was redundant. But then the crime story itself was too simple to be enough to carry the entire episode on its own. Some unrealistic moments also messed with my immersion (that tiny woman should not be physically able to do what she did in that hotel room).
Furthermore, why Iceland? Just to have that Scandinavian film noir feeling? But then why was everyone speaking English? If you are going to film in Iceland then you better commit fully and cast Scandinavian actors and make it the first non-English episode. British Iceland was just irritating.

Agree about the implausibility of what happened in the hotel room. My gf and I both looked at each other during that scene like...really? I seemed to have like that one more than most though. That was really my only issue with the episode.

I actually liked Crocodile. The acting was phenomenal and it had some really gut-wrenching moments. It was probably my second-favourite episode of the season.
I don't know, I think future technology played a pretty big part in the episode, not sure how this story could have been told without it. The only reason she was caught and she did what she did was because of what is essentially a mind reading machine. It's not the first time either Black Mirror has had an episode that doesn't go overboard with the sci-fi aspect.
This season overall didn't quite do it for me though, unfortunately. Hang the DJ and Crocodile were the only two episodes that I really enjoyed from start to finish, but not even those were quite as exceptional as say San Junipero or Nosedive.

Hang the DJ and Crocodile were the only two episodes that I really enjoyed from start to finish, but not even those were quite as exceptional as say San Junipero or Nosedive. (Spoiler warning I guess. We've been talking without tags but it has been pretty vague so far. The following post isn't): Well, to be fair, I didn't say the exact same story could have been told without the tech. I said a similar story but with the same outcome (meaning she ends up killing the same people but somehow messes up and the police find her through conventional means). There are enough crime stories out there that have the same formula, so it's not really hard to imagine this episode without the tech imo. Whereas other Black Mirror episodes just wouldn't exist without it. Just for the record, though, this alone was not reason enough for me to dislike the episode. As you said, there have been enough Black Mirror episodes that don't go overboard with the tech. But that's why I also said that the bare story itself was pretty formulaic and derivative of every crime story I have ever seen and it didn't really tell anything fresh or in an interesting way. She is afraid of getting caught so she kills the witnesses, but messes up and that is what gets her caught. We've seen this before. Besides, implausibilities - which this episode had - kill pretty much any crime story instantly for me. All of this is IMHO obviously.

I would rank them:
1) Black Museum 2) Metalhead 3 Hang the DJ 4) USS Callister 5) Arkangel 6) Crocodile
Number one is a firm position for me, and 2 and 3 are interchangeable. I thought all three were excellent though, and the directing and acting in Metalhead deserve particular praise imo. There wasn’t a lot of plot but even so I was enthralled throughout and the B&W aesthetic really worked well. USS Callister was good, and I enjoyed the different tone from the rest of the series (in that respect it reminded me of Nosedive). But I didn’t find myself wanting to revisit it or think about it too deeply unlike some of the others. Hats off to Oona though, I thought she finally did a good bit of acting in this (granted, I have only seen her in Thrones and Taboo outside of this but both were terrible performances). Arkangel just felt too by the numbers, it was obvious where it was going from the start. Maybe this is just a case of having watched too much Black Mirror that the ideas don’t feel so fresh? Crocodile just didn’t work for me at all

She really does look like her though, especially on the Netflix thumbnail for this season. Anyway, she was really good whether she was Oona Chaplin or not

Fuck yeah! The rumours were true. Clearly going to be interactive. And it's out tomorrow!

Fuck yeah! The rumours were true. Clearly going to be interactive. And it's out tomorrow! Looks cool. I've heard this has about 5 hours of content in total, but that each viewer will have their own 90-minute version. I assume you'll be able to restart the episode and make different decisions so it will be very interesting to see how this works. And it seems like this is its own separate release from the rest of the season.

Psyched! This is one of those shows that, imo, has only improved over time. It's always been very good, but comparing the last two seasons with seasons one and two and the difference is quite remarkable. Like The Last Kingdom the jump to Netflix seems to have done the show a lot of favours

I just went through it for the first time, it was cool to pick your own choices, but the story overall isn’t interesting enough for me to go back and make different choices and see the different endings.
Now when are they gonna release the actual season 5?
