It seems a bit early for that kind of info to be coming out. Unless they're re-casting Craig, despite what's been reported.

What’s with the sudden influx of music industry/musician biopic movies? Just found out an Elton John film ‘Rocketman’ is due out next year. What gives? Are these films that popular?

So I saw Hereditary last night, and it was probably one of the best horror movies I've seen in my entire life. I had trouble sleeping because of it, not because I was too freaked out, but because I couldn't stop thinking about it ... and it made me feel things I couldn't shake off easily. Horror movies usually don't scare me, at least not in the way they intend to, especially when the horror mainly consists of jump scares (those make me laugh more than anything). But this one was different. The scary parts were presented with a degree of subtlety that I really appreciate. There were no sudden loud noises to make you jump, just a deeply unsettling and oppressive atmosphere throughout the whole movie, paired with some disturbing, gut wrenching imagery. And then there is also the family drama, which was probably the most terrifying aspect of the movie for me. I've never seen a movie where grief felt so real and palpable ... it felt so real that it made me feel uncomfortable. And with all the phenomenal acting, writing and cinematography ... it was just really powerful, heavy stuff that will stay with me for a long time. I've been also thinking about the supernatural aspect of the story a lot, trying to figure out what exactly was going on. Some parts of it were really subtle and vague, and I feel like this is one of those movies that you need to rewatch at least once before you can start to piece it all together. So, correct me if I got this wrong, but what I gathered is that when Charlie was born, her soul was replaced by Paimon pretty much immediately because of Grandma. There was never a real Charlie, only Paimon, but because Paimon can only fully possess male hosts, he could not thrive inside Charlie's body. And this incompatibility manifested itself as a form of personality disorder resembling autism. For all intents and purposes, the girl that we see in the movie was basically a demonic being inside a young girl's body with amnesia and without his powers, and the real Charlie never truly lived.
So then the cult orchestrated Charlie's death to release Paimon (who is "locked in" once he possesses someone, and can't freely jump from host to host). And at the end, when Peter's soul is replaced with Paimon, Joan calls him Charlie because he is Charlie, or rather, the exact same consciousness that lived inside Charlie's body now lives inside Peter. But a male host allows Paimon to regain his memories and powers.
I thought for a long time that, like in The Babadook, the supernatural aspect of Hereditary was just a metaphor for mental illness, but it becomes clear as the movie goes on that it is very much literal. It's kind of ironic that even though Annie herself believes her family has a history of mental illness, they actually don't - what she thought was mental illness was a direct result of the malevolent demonic influence over her family. I feel like that's what the filmmakers wanted the audience to think. We were supposed to question whether or not this was a real haunting, or just Annie and Peter experiencing a mental breakdown over Charlie's death. Until the last twenty minutes of the movie where all hell breaks loose and you find out that, yeah, this is fucking real.

konradsmith Have you watched The Ballad of Buster Scruggs yet? It’s really good. I watched about half of it in the wee hours of the morning on the weekend but I've yet to finish it. What I saw was great but I didn't want my schedule to get any more ridiculous than it already is, so I didn't finish it and haven't found time since. Hopefully tonight I'll see the rest. I stopped shortly after the Liam Neeson story.

Really? Cast isn't bad except Beyoncé gets one of the leads. Not sure about that, at least it's just voice acting. I wonder if it's a musical? The CGI looks amazing. Mixed on the live adaptations, Jungle book was great, but Beauty and the Beast was pretty flat in terms of performance. Hollywood needs to chill with the whole let's make a musical with people who can't sing and dance. In the case of the Lion King, Beyoncé can sing, not sure about the rest or if it's even a musical. Wait Seth Rogan as Pumba? Okay now I'm offended. John C. Reilly would of been perfect, he's like Seth Rogan but is funny and talented. Dany McBride would of been good too, though he could also play Timone.

Watched a really good documentary on Netflix called Filmworker. It’s about Leon Vatali (Lord Bullingdon in Barry Lyndon) who gave up his acting career to become Stanley Kubrick’s personal assistant. It’s pretty fascinating how important he was in pretty much every aspect of Kubrick’s films.

Lea Seydoux is returning for the next Bond. Hasn’t happened since Eunice Gayson in Dr No and From Russia with Love.
